Opinions on the name Raylee

Hello friends!

My husband and I are expecting our first, a girl, in about 5 weeks! We have been all over the place with names. I think it would be neat to have a name with a reason/meaning behind it- which brings me to the name raylee. It’s actually our Dad’s middle names combined and the middle name would be [name_f]Anne[/name_f] which is both of our grandma’s middle names.

[name_f]Raylee[/name_f] isn’t super popular but to me it isn’t a name that’s unheard of either. Please let me know what you think about the name!

I know a little girl named [name_f]Raylee[/name_f]. In my opinion, it’s too trendy and childish. But if it has personal meaning, then go for it! Family meanings trumps everything

I think that you could find a better way to honor your fathers in your daughter’s name. Personally, I’m sick of hearing names with the “aylee” sound in them. [name_f]Raylee[/name_f] itself may be unusual, but keep in mind all of the soundalike names that are currently in use: [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Paisley[/name_u], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_u]Haley[/name_u], [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], Raylynn, etc.

I think it’s cute and I love the meaning behind it. I know a teenager named Raylyn it is a combo of her grandparents names. She loves her name and the family meaning.

The -aylee and -iley names are cute for little girls but I can’t picture any of them on a grown woman.

That said, nothing honors family more than a name.

Good luck!

[name_u]Ray[/name_u]- names are all the rage now! All the ones I know and have been told the naming stories of have been thus named after relatives named [name_u]Ray[/name_u] or [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]. It’s pretty common.

The family connection is sweet, but as another poster said, I think there’d be other better was to honor the relatives. Smoosh named are almost never the way to go (see Twilight’s Renessme who was named the same way…even her middle name!).

It looks made up and doesn’t have enough weight for me.

It isn’t common because it is not an actual name. It sounds SO similar to the myriad of trendy -aylee and -ilee names around today, which, to me, is a huge downside. Those names are just trendy and tacky. You can honor a family member without combining names to result with something that is less than the sum of its parts. Go to a name’s origin, find names with similar meanings, find the feminine version of a name; you have a lot of options. You can give your daughter a name with more substance and individuality while simultaneously honoring family.

I am not a fan of aylee iylee names, but [name_f]Raylee[/name_f] is cute. Have you considered the grandmothers’ names?

I agree that it falls into the popularity trend of names ending in -lee, and I’m not one to choose something that popular. If you like it, keep it! I think it would be a great tribute to your family.

You might also consider an almost anagram/combo name like [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] or [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]?
