I am due to have my baby girl in July and have my heart set on the name Willow… However a friend of mine disliked the name and promptly told me that she would be teased and called ‘Willy’
I know one persons comment shouldn’t bother me but it has worried me
So my question is to anyone that is called or is the parent of Willow… Is my friend right?
Tia
I’ve never met a [name_f]Willow[/name_f] in real life, but for what it’s worth, I think it’s a lovely name and I don’t know why it doesn’t get more use. I have no idea how likely it would be that she’d get called [name_m]Willy[/name_m]: I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and I don’t hear [name_m]Willy[/name_m] as slang like I think it is in some places. But there are tons of boys being named [name_m]William[/name_m] and being called [name_m]Will[/name_m], so [name_f]Willow[/name_f] doesn’t stand out to me as being more likely than all of them to be teased in this way.
I love the name. I’ve heard it fairly often and never once did I think “[name_m]Willy[/name_m]” or anything like that, so I don’t think it’s something you have to worry about.
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] isn’t a name that seems likely to have any sort of nickname other than the silly pet names families frequently call their children at home. i don’t see classmates thinking of [name_m]Willy[/name_m] at all. It’s one of my favorite names and I would not hesitate to use it.
I love [name_f]Willow[/name_f], and have for years and the [name_m]Willy[/name_m] nickname hasn’t crossed my mind once. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is soft and can be used in its full form as it’s short enough, and a [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is more likely to just be [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or maybe, probably once in a blue moon, [name_m]Will[/name_m].
I think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is really beautiful and ethereal. It’s really makes me mad that your friend took it upon herself to use a ridiculous nickname. She’ll get used to it.
