What do you think about the name [name]Xanthe[/name] for a girl? I came across it on nameberry the other day and it has really stuck with me. So I would like to hear you experts’ opinions on the name Thanks
I think it’s absolutely lovely. It used to be on my list, but I cut it for reasons I’m not going to bother you with. It means yellow, and in greek mythology she was a) an epithet of [name]Demeter[/name], b) a sea nymph (well, the sea nymph was named [name]Xantho[/name]…), and c) the wife of Asclepius.
I picture a little girl in a pale summerfrock with blonde curls laughing and blowing at dandelions in the tall grass.
funny you say that… my baby will most likely have blonde curly hair as my man and I do lol thanks for the added info! I never knew that
[name]Xanthe[/name] is adorable, I love it. I always think of the color violet when I think of [name]Xanthe[/name], it’s very pretty. That’s funny, I picture a sweet blond-haired little girl, too (not so much curly, but still blond!). I think it’s very sweet and spunky, and I love the nn [name]Annie[/name] for it. I’ve toyed around with it for a while now, I really like it.
I love [name]Xanthe[/name], but I have to tell you that nameberry has the pronunciation wrong. The proper Greek pronunciation is zan-thee.
I do think it’s a very pretty name and it’s so spunky while still being beautiful.
As long as you say it zan-thee, I adore it. I love -ee ending names that aren’t nicknames, so lots of Greek ones like [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Ione[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], etc.
I also really like the X.
I’ve seen [name]Xanthia[/name] as well, but it’s not as spunky to me.
yeah I pronounce it zan-thee and I also like [name]Xanthia[/name] but I like it better spelt Xanthea! I still think I like [name]Xanthe[/name] better though! Any middle name suggestions?
I think it is so pretty and exotic sounding. Not sure if I would have to actually use it.
I agree, Xanthea is [name]LOVELY[/name].
