I’m newly pregnant and so of course DH and I are discussing names already. I’ve been thinking about names for years, but now we have a little bun in the oven and so it seems much more real and DH is much more willing to discuss.
DH and I have very different naming styles. He just likes names that he likes. As in whatever sounds good to him (tend to be a bit trendy). I on the other hand want names that are meaningful in some way.
So far the only girl’s name that we can kind of agree on is [name]Tessa[/name]. His great grandmother (who was alive until about 4 years ago and who I got the chance to know fairly well) was [name]Teresa[/name]. I don’t like [name]Teresa[/name] but she was called [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Tessie[/name] by friends and family and I thought [name]Tessa[/name] could be to honor her memory.
We are thinking [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]. All of those MN also hold some significance to our family.
A couple of concerns that I have:
[name]Will[/name] [name]Tessa[/name] become too popular/trendy. [name]Do[/name] you see it moving up significantly from it’s current #229?
Also, our last name is pronounced “Sip-sick” (although it isn’t spelled with any Ss only Cs) is that too many S sounds in the first and last name?
[name]Tessa[/name] is so beautiful! I’ve been thinking about it a lot for my own list lately as well. I think [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jewel[/name] is an adorable combo.
I like the sound of [name]Tessa[/name] Sipsick. I wouldn’t like it if it started with S but with s in the middle, I think it’s fine. I think [name]Tessa[/name] is a very nice name to use in honour of a [name]Teresa[/name]. It’s pretty, but spunky, too.
I’m actually not a fan of the name [name]Jewel[/name], but I love [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] is pretty too, but has the issue of the As running together.
I agree with [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]. With you last name I would stay away from any more s or z sounds, like in [name]Elizabeth[/name]. And [name]Tessa[/name] ends in a, [name]Abigail[/name] starts with an a, and that is usually considered a no-no for flow. Also, I like the one syllable, so if you think of alternative mns, stick with one syllable names.
I like [name]Tessa[/name] Sipsick. I think that the sa sound in [name]Tessa[/name] and the si sound in Sipsick flow just fine. My choice for a middle name is [name]Jewel[/name]. I think the the single syllable works best, and I think [name]Jewel[/name] is beautiful.
I had already thought about the As at the end of [name]Tessa[/name]/begining of [name]Abigail[/name], but one is a short A, and one is a long A. So to me they make different sounds, which keeps it from being a case where one name flows into the other. Is that just me? [name]Do[/name] you think they run together?
Yeah, I think [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] does run together-- although it’s not the worst I’ve heard. What about [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Gail[/name] instead? [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jewel[/name] is my favorite from your combinations.
I think [name]Tessa[/name] is fairly safe for now popularity wise, unless there is some celeb baby I don’t know about. [name]Tessa[/name] with your last name does seem a bit S heavy (in sound), but it could work. [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Jewel[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] are my favorites.
I love it! It’s one of my top picks at this point. I was worried about trendiness/popularity too, but then I looked at the national trends over the past decade, and it increased a little in popularity in the mid-2000s (to the upper 100s) and then has decreased again most recently and/or stayed pretty steady. It seems like I’m reading about it more on message boards lately, but maybe we’re the exception and the general population isn’t necessarily more into it? I can only hope!
I think [name]Jewel[/name] is my favorite for a middle name (which seems to be the opinion of most of the ladies here) but there are a couple of issues with [name]Jewel[/name]. First my DH does not like it. I might could work on it, but so far he doesn’t like it at all. [name]Jewel[/name] was my great-grandmother’s name. And my cousin (who has the same great-grandmother) is due with a little girl in about three weeks. She and her DH aren’t discussing name possibilities with anyone until the little one is born and they announce her name. I know that [name]Jewel[/name] was on her short list with her first little girl. So if they use [name]Jewel[/name] I won’t use it. Especially because her little one and my little one will be only about 6 months apart. I wouldn’t even want to use it in the middle spot.
Since you are thinking of using [name]Tessa[/name] to honor [name]Teresa[/name] maybe you could use something derived from [name]Jewel[/name] to honor your side of the family as well. (Also this way it doesn’t matter what you cousin uses).
[name]Tessa[/name] is such a great name! I don’t think all the s’s are a problem. [name]Tessa[/name] Sipsick sounds good to me. I’m going to go against the grain and profess a love for [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]. I keep saying it out loud to myself, and I don’t really hear the a’s running together. And, as another poster said, [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a little too much with Sipsick. Also, I just really don’t like [name]Jewel[/name]. No offense to anyone who has or likes that name, but I think it’s kind of ugly sounding.
I very highly doubt it will rise significantly. It’s sat in the 200’s for the past 15 years, so I don’t see it all of a sudden jumping up there, it’s been too consistent.
