(sorry if this is obvious but I don’t like to assume - [name]Zosia[/name] is [name]ZO[/name]-sha, [name]Eilidh[/name] is AY-lee, [name]Aoife[/name] is EE-fuh, [name]Eulalie[/name] is YOU-lay-lee)
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] - A good combo to say and it looks nice on the page too!
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name] - Cutish but flows well
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name] - Unusual pairing that works!
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] - I love these two - a mix of Celtic charm and historic tradition.
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - I prefer [name]Margot[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]. It looks so much more stately!
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] - OK but the repetitive “ee” sounds bother me a bit.
[name]May[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] - Soft and feminine
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] - I love [name]Estella[/name] and its Dickens connection but I don’t like [name]Nancy[/name]. A “nancy” is a derogatory term for an effeminate male ([name]Nellie[/name] is another name). Former First Lady [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Reagan[/name] also comes to mind.
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] - I love [name]Greta[/name] but not with another name that ends in an “a”.
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name] - very awkward to say aloud so it doesn’t roll off the tongue easily.
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] - Too descriptive. With a place name and a jewel name, this combo sounds like a gem that is found in the US state of [name]Virginia[/name].
[name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] - I like [name]Beatrix[/name] but there’s something about this combo that doesn’t sit right with me. [name]One[/name] too many exotic letters (an “z” and a “z”), perhaps?
I’m kind of the opposite of [name]Mischa[/name]-- I really like [name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name]! I mildly dislike [name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name] and [name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. The others are not my style but quite nice.
I have a lot of favorites from your list-
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name]
Especially loving [name]Eilidh[/name], [name]Opal[/name], and [name]Margo[/name]!
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name] - cute!
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name] - super cute! [name]Love[/name] this combo!
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] - I like both names but not together. What about [name]Greta[/name] [name]Briar[/name] or [name]Greta[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]?
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - pretty!
[name]Ah[/name], I always enjoy seeing your lists! You have beautiful taste
Favourite combos:
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] - Great names that compliment each other and flow perfectly.
[name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] - I actually really love the Z and X, as well as the contrast of exotic and vintage.
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Estella[/name], and [name]Nancy[/name] is cute as a middle, especially with such a romantic fn.
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name] - [name]Just[/name] adorable, although I do worry about [name]Amelia[/name]'s rampant popularity. Who cares when a name is that lovely, though?
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - I slightly prefer [name]Margot[/name] to [name]Margo[/name], but otherwise this is a lovely, quirky combo.
Favourite individual names:
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Eilidh[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name] (Really crushing on this at the moment but never sure whether it’s [name]ZO[/name]-sha, as in the first syllable of [name]Zoe[/name], or ZOH-sha, as in [name]Oliver[/name])
The only names I’m not keen on are [name]May[/name], [name]Eulalie[/name] & [name]Vida[/name]. [name]May[/name] always seems a bit insubstantial as a first name to me, [name]Eulalie[/name] is a bit of a tongue twister when I try to say it (and it sort of reminds me of the word eulogy), and I just think there are prettier, more special names on your list than [name]Vida[/name]. Nothing inherently wrong with any of them, though.
If I could play with them a bit, I’d love [name]Estella[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Briar[/name] and [name]Zosia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] off the top of my head.
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]- I love [name]Iris[/name] but hate [name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]- [name]Zosia[/name] sounds a little made up to me but [name]Beatrix[/name] is fine.
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Nancy[/name]- [name]Nancy[/name] feels so old fashioned and not in a good way.
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name]- a little cutish. [name]Don[/name]'t think that [name]Posy[/name] would age well.
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name]- [name]Ophelia[/name] is one of my faves but I hate [name]Greta[/name]. I feel like I am doing this to every combo.
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name]- don’t like the syrup association.
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Opal[/name]. Hate [name]Virginia[/name]. Not a bad name combo though.
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]- reminds me of a poodle
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] this.
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name]- I think if you are going to use [name]Briar[/name] you would need something a bit softer for a first name such as [name]Annabelle[/name].
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name]- [name]Eulalie[/name] is horrid. [name]Vida[/name] is gorgeous.
[name]May[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]- Like it but [name]Celeste[/name] [name]May[/name] sounds better.
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] (I think I would prefer [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name], nn [name]Greta[/name]) I really like [name]Greta[/name], but it isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, and [name]Margaret[/name] would give her a more accepted full name to fall back on if she doesn’t like [name]Greta[/name].
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name] (This is my favorite of all!)
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] - STUNNING! My favorite of your names
[name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] - [name]Dow[/name] is good but [name]Zosia[/name] is unappealing to me
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] - like them separately but they seem too different to be together
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name] - sweet and fun!
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] - eh NMS
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name] - lovely
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] - sweet but does not compare to [name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] to me!
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] very pretty!
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - stunning, [name]LOVE[/name]!
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name] the alliteration is cute here
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] - love [name]Eulalie[/name] but not so much [name]Vida[/name]
[name]May[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] - a little boring to me but not bad
From your list…in the order you listed them…I like these the best:
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] ((and since my name is spelled without a t, ;D I like the way you spelled [name]Margo[/name]))
Also, is it an option for you to mix the names some…like this:
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
If I had to choose, it would be [name]Iris[/name]-but not with [name]Virginia[/name]-if you used it as the middle you could call her [name]Ivy[/name] based on her initials.
I would choose [name]Iris[/name] [name]Opal[/name]. I already love the name [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Opal[/name] is the only other name from the list I can tolerate-sorry. [name]Opal[/name] b/c it reminds me of how pretty the stone is.
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, two beautiful names!
[name]Zosia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] - I like, [name]Zosia[/name] is different, but very pretty and [name]Beatrix[/name] has been growing on my lately. Good flow.
[name]Estella[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] - I like [name]Estella[/name], not so much [name]Nancy[/name]. It seems…plain, I guess.
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Posy[/name] - sweet and fun!
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Greta[/name], Like [name]Ophelia[/name]. What puts me off is the similar endings.
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name] - Never really like either name
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] - I love it! Sweet and southern, feminine and sophisticated!
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]- I’m not a fan of [name]Aoife[/name]. [name]Margaret[/name] is ok.
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - Very pretty! Not in love with either name, but its really beautiful as a whole.
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Briar[/name]- Like [name]Beatrix[/name], like [name]Briar[/name]. Together, not so much. The b-b seems too cutesy.
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] -Hmm, ok.
[name]May[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] -I like the one syllable first, two syllable second. Refined, short and simple, and pretty.
Overall, I really like your naming style and I really don’t think you could go wrong with any of these!
Thank you all for the feedback - I really appreciate both the criticisms and the lovely comments.
[name]Just[/name] to address a few things…
[name]Zosia[/name] is pronounced like the ‘[name]Zo[/name]’ in [name]Zoe[/name]… rhyming with ‘Go’.
I understand that [name]Greta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] is a bit choppy with it’s similar endings, a few have brought that up - Nameberries tend to have a rule that middle names can’t share the same ending; I don’t know if it’s just because I’m an [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] (the few times I’ve had feedback on my name, people sum up that it doesn’t flow well since they both end in ‘ah’), but I genuinely just don’t hear the issue haha. I guess I’m blissfully ignorant, since it’s a sound pattern I’m used to hearing a lot.
I was a tad worried about [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] as coming off ‘‘too American’’ for a British baby; [name]Virginia[/name] is a state, [name]Opal[/name] is very southern sounding to me (The main character in Because of [name]Winn[/name] [name]Dixie[/name] is called [name]Opal[/name], which is a primary association in my head). I didn’t quite click onto the ‘opal from [name]Virginia[/name]’ thing though, which I probably should have.
I like the suggestions of [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Briar[/name] and [name]Zosia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (although thinking about this more all I hear is ‘[name]Zosia[/name] Mamet’ which is the name of the actress, whom I admittedly heard it on first)
[name]Estella[/name] and [name]Nancy[/name] certainly do have different styles to them… this is probably the most personal name on my list though, so it doesn’t bother me a whole lot. I also like contrasting origins in names (evidently: [name]Aoife[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name]). I absolutely adore [name]Estella[/name] because of the Dickins reference. When I first read GE I thought it was the most beautiful name I’d ever heard, despite the not-overly-pleasant character (though in my opinion it’s better for a female character to be interesting and not pleasant rather than perfect and one dimensional especially for the time period… I digress). [name]Nancy[/name] was my great grandmother’s name, and I’m also partly names after her too so it’s significant to me for that reason.
I’m not against 2 -a endings. I like a good number of them. I think in this case it feels choppy because of the -tuh/-fuh, having both of those front of the mouth/teeth sounds is what makes it feel off to me.
It’s not bad, I just think it sound be better.
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Clara[/name] sounds awesome [name]IMO[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Livia[/name] is beautiful
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Zosia[/name] sounds cool
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Leona[/name] I love
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Marlaina[/name] is very luxurious
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] are my favourites from this list. I prefer [name]Margo[/name] with a final t, but that’s just me.
I love [name]Eulalie[/name] (I’m biased!), but not with [name]Vida[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Iris[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] (the opposite of my daughters combo)? [name]Iris[/name] [name]Eulalia[/name] has a gorgeous flow, too.
