I’m pretty new to the naming process, since my hubby and I are expecting our first baby! We have a list of names and we’d love to hear your opinions and suggestions of names that you think we’d like based off the list.
My husband is [name]Pacific[/name] Islander and I’m white, so our baby will be mixed. Also, do you think these names would fit a mixed baby?
Boys:
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nicholas[/name] after my father, a nice tribute to family)
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charles[/name] after my godfather/uncle)
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
Girls:
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (my Grandma [name]Violet[/name] used to call my mom “Luli” and I think this is a great tribute)
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this one, but worried because our last name ends with an “ay” sound. Rhyme is good or bad?)
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
And my husband likes the name [name]Layla[/name], but its popularity turns me off. I also know a chihuahua-mix named [name]Layla[/name], so that’s a no.
Also, which do you think would go best together as boy/girl sibling names?
I’d love opinions and suggestions! Nothing too popular, please!
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]- I really like this! I’ve always liked the name [name]Parker[/name]. I think it’s modern without being too trendy and has a strong, masculine sound to it. [name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] really sounds nice.
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name]- I’m not a huge fan of the name [name]Oliver[/name]. Seems stale to me.
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Niall[/name]. Very interesting, and [name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name] sounds good. Not sure how it would work in the real world, but I still like it.
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name]- I like [name]Carter[/name], too, but not as much as I like [name]Parker[/name], and they have the same vibe to me. [name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name] sounds good. All of your names sound good, you’re really good with flow and syllables.
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]- I like this, I beyond ove the name [name]Henry[/name], but I don’t love the name [name]Quinn[/name] on a boy. It leans feminine to me. I prefer [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ellis[/name] or [name]Henry[/name] [name]Charles[/name].
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (my Grandma [name]Violet[/name] used to call my mom “Luli” and I think this is a great tribute)- It is a nice tribute, indeed! [name]Luella[/name] is pretty, but I don’t love it. I don’t think it would sit well on a grown woman.
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this one, but worried because our last name ends with an “ay” sound. Rhyme is good or bad?)- I quite like the name [name]Mae[/name], and [name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] is beautiful, but rhyming is definitely bad bad bad!
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]- I prefer [name]Molly[/name] to [name]Mollie[/name] tenfold, but I still think the name is only suited for a young girl. I would prefer a full name (i.e. [name]Mary[/name]) and have the nickname [name]Mollie[/name], to be honest. I like [name]Lavender[/name], though.
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]- I hate the name [name]Hattie[/name]. To me it a little old lady name that no girl would want to have. [name]Eloise[/name], however, is beautiful! Great name. I like [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Adele[/name].
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]- I don’t really like [name]Adella[/name]. I think [name]Adele[/name] is prettier. I also dislike [name]Claire[/name].
Sibling groups
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]
I think all your names sits well, together, though. They would all make good pairs, in my opinion.
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nicholas[/name] after my father, a nice tribute to family): not a huge fan of [name]Parker[/name], though I love a family tribute when the name is also lovely!
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charles[/name] after my godfather/uncle): love it, but these also happen to be the names of two dear friends, so I wouldn’t hesitate
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]: very nice
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name]: don’t care for it, sorry
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]: love [name]Henry[/name], not as crazy about [name]Quinn[/name]
Girls:
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (my Grandma [name]Violet[/name] used to call my mom “Luli” and I think this is a great tribute): love it
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this one, but worried because our last name ends with an “ay” sound. Rhyme is good or bad?): a beautiful combo. I suppose it depends how much the “ay” of your last name is stressed
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]: I like it but it strikes me as a bit cutesy
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]: very cute but I wonder how it would sound on adult.
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]: prefer [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], or [name]Adelaide[/name]; love [name]Claire[/name]
From your boys’ list, my favorite is [name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name], but it almost sounds rhymey. Maybe [name]Henry[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] or [name]Henry[/name] [name]James[/name]? As for the girls’ list, I like [name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. I love the name [name]Mae[/name], too, but I think the rhyme would be a bit cheesy. I don’t think there are any rules for naming a mixed baby, and I think any of your names would work fine. Here are some suggestions:
I like all your boy names! Your girls list I feel could use some stronger names… I think I like the middles you chose better in the first name spot.
Does your husband want to use any names from his culture for the baby? It seems like you prefer traditional American names, but That would open a world of cool middle names:).
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] - not too keen on this combo, probably my least favourte from the boys list.
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] - i love the name oliver and think [name]Olly[/name] is a sweet NN is you use it.
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name] - adore the name [name]Niall[/name], much prefer to Neil.
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name] - adore both of these, Eliis tips it for me however.
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] - thinks this one works very well, and baby boy can be called Henry, Hank or [name]Harry[/name]. fantastic!
Girls:
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] - never heard of [name]Luella[/name] before, but having seen it now i love it
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] - also love this one however if too rhymy with surname, i’d steer clear
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name] - very cute with -ie ending for wider used [name]Molly[/name]. Lavender is also an adorable MN
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] - adore this NN for Harriet, and think could work very well for your little one
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] - prefer [name]Adele[/name], however this is also sweet
favourites for Sibset:
Henry Quinn and Luella Violet
Carter Ellis and Hattie Eloise
I love [name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] and like [name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]- perhaps [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Mae[/name] would be better though if you worry about rhyming names?
Boys:
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]- I like this one a lot. [name]Parker[/name] is a strong name that I would have put on our list if my husband had approved of surnames.
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name]- Possibly my favorite, but I’m biased- I have an [name]Oliver[/name].
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]- I do not really like this spelling of [name]Niall[/name], but I like how the combination sounds.
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name]- [name]Carter[/name] feels too popular, but the flow is nice.
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]- I don’t like [name]Quinn[/name]
Girls:
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name]- I love the family connections, but I would consider whether it is important to you that your daughter get at least one name all her own. It has a great flow.
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t rhyme with your last name! Go for [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Mae[/name] instead.
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]- I don’t like [name]Mollie[/name] on an adult.
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]- [name]Eloise[/name] is one of my absolute favorite girls names! I would use it in the fn spot!!
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name]- I like this combo.
Boys:
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nicholas[/name] after my father, a nice tribute to family): love this one!
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charles[/name] after my godfather/uncle: I like [name]Charles[/name], I’m meh on [name]Oliver[/name].
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name] - like this one too
[name]Carter[/name] [name]Ellis[/name] - I like [name]Carter[/name], so-so on [name]Ellis[/name].
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] - like this one! your boy names are pretty spot-on, [name]IMO[/name]
Girls:
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (my Grandma [name]Violet[/name] used to call my mom “Luli” and I think this is a great tribute) - I think [name]Luella[/name] is unique and fun, a good variation on [name]Lola[/name]/[name]Layla[/name] sound. It is uncommon, so you’d have to deal with the fact that she may be mistaken for a [name]Lola[/name]/[name]Layla[/name] at some point.
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this one, but worried because our last name ends with an “ay” sound. Rhyme is good or bad?) - I’d avoid the rhyming, and, like others suggested, go with [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. Or if you love [name]Mae[/name], give her a longer name that could be shortened ([name]Margaret[/name], [name]Mary[/name], etc)
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name] - The “ie” spelling would honestly just lead to a lot of mispellings, at least in my region of the US. Also, I agree with previous posters who suggested using [name]Mary[/name] and nicknaming her [name]Molly[/name]/[name]Mollie[/name]. I have an uncommon spelling of a nickname-y first name, and it’s tiring and irritating to forever have to spell my name for people and assure them it’s not short for a more ‘adult’ name.
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] - My concerns with [name]Hattie[/name] are the same as [name]Mollie[/name] (minus spelling). Maybe [name]Henrietta[/name] or [name]Harriet[/name]?
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] - I love both these names. [name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] sounds lovely to me.
Also, which do you think would go best together as boy/girl sibling names? - For siblings, I would go with [name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] / [name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name], [name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] / [name]Henry[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]. I love [name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name], but it’s a bit more modern sounding whereas some of your girl names are more old fashioned.
[name]Don[/name]'t worry about the multi-ethnic heritage; what matters is that the parents chose a name meaningful for the family, whatever their story might be.
Of the boys, I like these
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Niall[/name] [name]James[/name]
because they have meaning to you. But are you going to prn [name]Niall[/name] as “[name]Nile[/name]” or “[name]Neil[/name]” ?
Of the girls,
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Violet[/name] (my Grandma [name]Violet[/name] used to call my mom “Luli” and I think this is a great tribute)
is far and away my favorite.
[name]Mae[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Don[/name]'t rhyme! If you really love the name, what about [name]Maeve[/name]?
[name]Mollie[/name] [name]Lavender[/name] Not bad, but it seems kind of characterish, like a crime-solving librarian. I also think the -ie spelling is babyish and definitely not my preference.
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] I love [name]Hattie[/name] but this name combo is too much for me. I love the antique names that are coming into vogue although I prefer to mix them up with other elements.
[name]Adella[/name] [name]Claire[/name] Dull. [name]Delia[/name] [name]Claire[/name], maybe. [name]Dolly[/name]? [name]Polly[/name]
What about [name]Hattie[/name] [name]Claire[/name]?
From the list it looks like you prefer cozy classics and family tree names. Also, is the last name long and multi-syllabic or shorter?
