Opinions on these names

I really love the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for a little girl, however it’s definitely increasing in popularity so I don’t want to use it as a full first name. What about the names [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]? Are they too basic/popular? Any other suggestions?

Ellie is lovely! How do you feel about [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]? I’ll be using data from the UK and US here, I’m not sure where you live. Sorry if you live somewhere else!

Elodie and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] are lovely as well. They both sit slightly outside the top 100 in the UK, but whilst [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is around 150 in the US, [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]’s around 900. This means they both fit into a sweet familiar-but-not-too-popular spot. In the UK, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] has been holding steady for a while. It’s unlikely to peak or drop massively in the coming years, so is a safe bet. Classic, charming, and unlikely to date badly. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], however, has been steadily increasing, and is likely to continue. I’m not sure if you’re expecting now, or anticipating for the future, but [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is likely to keep climbing higher, so is a little riskier. In the US however (obviously it varies state by state, I’m just looking at a holistic overview), it’s the opposite! [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is quite uncommon (though it was a fast riser recently) and is unlikely to ever get very popular in the near future. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], however, has climbed massively in the last decade. It’s likely to increase like this, and is significantly more likely to date.

TL;DR :
UK - [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is better
US - [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is better

Style-wise, however, neither of them read as basic or trendy, which is a good sign. Instead, they’re classy, classic, and [name_u]French[/name_u]. These are some other [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] long forms that you might like if you like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] :

Love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]! [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is getting up there, but it’s still just under the top 100. Maybe you could look it up and see how popular it is in your state (assuming you’re in the US)?

I absolutely love [name_f]Luella[/name_f] and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] from that list, will for sure be considering those.

Hi there.

I agree that [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is super sweet, but pretty over done. Not sure why, but I don’t care much for [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. I feel like that ‘d’ looks off, & the pronunciation is unclear. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], however, is so lovely. I don’t think it’s too basic at all. It’s elegant & spunky & vintage.

Sorry for any repeats, but a few more interesting names w/Ellie as a nn are…

Eloisa

Elowen

Eleanora

Eliya

Elora

Eliora

Ellen

Estelle

Estella

Luella

Mariella

And then a few more not as interesting, but still pretty names w/Ellie as a nn are…

Elizabeth

Eleanor

Elena

Eliana

Hope this helps.

Oh I really love [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] and yes I do agree the pronunciation for [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] can be messed up, I’m considering just spelling it a different way (like [name_f]Elody[/name_f] or something) if I go through with that name.

I love both [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] reminds me of the word “melody” (and even sounds melodic for that matter) and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] has a strong meaning (I believe it’s “warrior”, from [name_m]Louis[/name_m]). I would say if you’re leaning more towards a gentle, graceful vibe then [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], or a strong, courageous vibe then [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

Also from @MichelleM’s list: I absolutely adore [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as well

Yes I absolutely agree with that and I think it’s why I prefer [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] slightly more (wouldn’t use [name_f]Melody[/name_f] because i’m not a huge fan of M names).

Some names that I have come across recently that I love are [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ([name_f]Ellen[/name_f]-nor), [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] ([name_f]Ellen[/name_f]-nor-a), Eleanoria ([name_f]Ellen[/name_f]-nor-e-a), and Ellieanoria ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-an-nor-e-a)

I know some of them are a little out there but it’s up to you. Anything that has [name_f]El[/name_f] in it would work with the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]

Elodie is beautiful and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] makes a sweet nickname. You might also like [name_f]Elara[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]

Elodie and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] are so nice! Cannot talk about popularity without knowing your location, but they’re not boring names.
