Opinions on these + pronunciation help

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce these names, and do you think they’re usable?

[name]Hanoch[/name]
[name]Hosea[/name]
[name]Micajah[/name]
[name]Philemon[/name]

What do you think of virtue names for boys like [name]Prosper[/name], [name]Worth[/name], and [name]Able[/name]?

Also, what do you think of [name]Pike[/name] as a middle name? [name]Pike[/name] has significant family and personal meaning. My grandmother’s family has lived in [name]Pike[/name] County for over 150 years, and I go there often and really love it for so many reasons.

[name]TIA[/name].

[name]Hanoch[/name] - HAN-och (I’d pronounce it the traditional Hebrew way, with the “ch” being like the one in [name]Chaim[/name]).
[name]Hosea[/name] - ho-ZAY-uh.
[name]Micajah[/name] - ma-[name]KYE[/name]-uh.
[name]Philemon[/name] - [name]PHIL[/name]-uh-mun.

I think [name]Hosea[/name] and [name]Philemon[/name] are the most pronounceable and usable. [name]Micajah[/name]'s also spelled [name]Michaiah[/name] which I think would be a bit easier. I like all the names a lot, though - as a Jew I’m always looking for interesting Hebrew names (well, [name]Philemon[/name]'s Greek, but I like it anyway, haha).

I like [name]Prosper[/name], but I’m not really a fan of [name]Worth[/name] or [name]Able[/name]. And I think [name]Pike[/name] is totally usable as a middle name, especially since it has family significance! It’s similar to [name]Mike[/name], after all, so it isn’t as though it’d seem foreign.

Agree with esrever. Those are the pronunciations I’d use. My (Jewish) DH agrees (I asked him for pronunciation help.)

I [name]Hosea[/name] and [name]Micajah[/name] are my favorites, although I agree that [name]Michaiah[/name] might be easier to figure out for pronunciation. I had to stare at it for a few minutes to figure it out with the “j”.

Not really a fan of the virtue names. [name]Prosper[/name] sounds like [name]Prospero[/name] from The [name]Tempest[/name]. Not my favorite [name]Shakespeare[/name] work. [name]Worth[/name] is just blah, and I dislike [name]Able[/name]. However, [name]Pike[/name] is great if it’s got a family significance. Sometimes I wish either mine or DH’s family had traditions of passing down names. Only men pass names in my family, and DH’s family doesn’t do it at all.

[name]Hanoch[/name] – Han-och – it’s okay
[name]Hosea[/name] – hoh-zay-uh – nice
[name]Micajah[/name] – mi/me-cah-jah – this was weird to me until I looked at the pp and saw it was ma-[name]KYE[/name]-uh. If it were spelled [name]Michaiah[/name] I would have gotten it ^_^. Cool sound
[name]Philemon[/name] – phil-uh-mun – but a ton of people I know say it file-mon

I like virtue names for boys like [name]Prosper[/name], [name]Worth[/name], and [name]Able[/name]. [name]Pike[/name] makes me think of a fish, but as a middle name with huge significance, I like it.

I would say them all the same way as @esrever88, with the exception of [name]Philemon[/name]. I’ve grown up in church my whole life, and I’ve only ever heard it said FYE-lee-muhn. I like all the names, and probably find [name]Hosea[/name] and Macajah the most usable (although I like the [name]Micaiah[/name]/[name]Michaiah[/name] spelling more, and I like just plain [name]Micah[/name] even more than that). I like [name]Prosper[/name] and [name]Worth[/name] (especially [name]Worth[/name]!), and [name]Able[/name] is okay, but the Biblical [name]Abel[/name] seems more usable. [name]Pike[/name] is definitely usable as a MN!

There’s a student named [name]Hosea[/name] at my school…he’s a freshman.
I prefer [name]Micah[/name] to its variant [name]Micaiah[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t care for Chanoch or [name]Philemon[/name].
I knew someone whose mn was [name]Worth[/name] and I’ve liked it ever since. [name]Don[/name]'t care for [name]Prosper[/name] unless it’s [name]Prospero[/name] but I would never name a child that and don’t like either [name]Able[/name] or [name]Abel[/name].
What about some of my family virtue names such as Wrestling, [name]Love[/name], [name]Comfort[/name], [name]Freedom[/name], Dwell?

[name]Hanoch[/name] - I’d pronounce in HUH-nach (with the softish hebrew “ch” as in [name]Chaim[/name] also), though I think most people would pronounce it HAN-ock or HAN-oak.
[name]Hosea[/name] - ho-[name]SAY[/name]-uh
[name]Micajah[/name] - mih-[name]KYE[/name]-uh
[name]Philemon[/name] - [name]PHIL[/name]-uh-mon

I love virtue names on boys. [name]Worth[/name] and [name]Bravery[/name] are too of my favorites. I like [name]Prosper[/name] as well, but think it works better as a middle. Not big on [name]Able[/name]… I’d go with [name]Abel[/name], it’s biblical and is homophonically the same. [name]Pike[/name] works in the middle also. I love the significance it has for you!
