Opinions on these random names

I don’t see these talked about on here much so I was just curious what people thought of them. They aren’t all names I particularly like or anything, so don’t worry about offending me if you don’t like them.

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f]
[name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]
[name_f]Carissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] (I know it’s popular but I don’t see it discussed much)
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Norman[/name_m]
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
[name_m]Dewey[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_u]Brett[/name_u]
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m]

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f] is on my list. I also really like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], and [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] but can’t personally use them. I also like [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] but I’m not as big of a fan of the nicknames so its not on my list.

here’s just my first thoughts, some are pretty mean (i’m so sorry) but oh well

paulina: i knew a relatively snooty one i didn’t like in elementary school
rae: addison rae
gabrielle: popular girl
lexi: there was one the grade below me in elementary school, i think she had asthma
carissa: my downstairs neighbor is clarissa? it also reminds me of the word caress (and i don’t like that).
brittany: such a millennial name and not in a good way
emma: yes i don’t care that it’s popular
micah: the one in my grade has said some racist stuff
norman: reminds me of guinea pigs? but i love it
stanley: stanley humphrey the weenie sim
dewey: malcolm in the middle
marcus: the guy who works at smosh? he’s been in a couple videos i think
brett: lilsimsie’s brother
chester: YES (also friend’s brother’s middle name)
kirk: this kid i was in an art class with right before covid started was making some pirate map for an assignment and the pirate he i think made up was named like orange j kirk or something like that

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f] - sounds like a sweet Latin American or Slavic girl. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] lovely and pretty name, but not in my list

[name_u]Rae[/name_u] - love [name_m]Ra[/name_m] and Rael, [name_u]Rae[/name_u] is lovely too

[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] - was my top name years ago, now it feels so High School Musical to me. Been there done that vibes.

[name_u]Lexi[/name_u] - dated feel

[name_f]Carissa[/name_f] - I like it, regal

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]- very 2000s, dated vibes

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - sweet and boring

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] - nah, I don’t vibe with it. I don’t know why

[name_m]Norman[/name_m] - sounds kinda nerdy, but also cute

[name_u]Stanley[/name_u] - I don’t love it, sounds like someone snobby for some crazy reason

[name_m]Dewey[/name_m] - It’s rather adorable, but when I really start to think about it, I think of sweat?!

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] - LOVE it in [name_f]English[/name_f], but in my country every second kid is [name_m]Markus[/name_m] and I hate the prononciation. It’s seriously basic in my language :sob: But in [name_f]English[/name_f] it’s quite attractive.

[name_u]Brett[/name_u] - I prefer [name_u]Rhett[/name_u], but it’s ok

[name_m]Chester[/name_m] - I don’t love it, kinda basic American boy

[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - sounds like a flea in my language and I can’t unhear it :smiling_face_with_tear:

Carissa- again very 90’s

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f]- I don’t mind it and I think it’s kind of cute in a retro chic way, I prefer [name_f]Paula[/name_f] though
[name_u]Rae[/name_u]- So underrated on here, I don’t know if I would say this is my fav spelling but I still really like it
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]- it’s meh to me, it’s similar to how I pronounce [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] and in general prefer that prn for a boy, I prefer [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f] over [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]- Don’t like it, one because I’ve grown up with so many Alexa/Alexis/Alexia/Lexi’s that’s it’s worn out for me, two because I just don’t like the sound, I don’t mind [name_u]Lex[/name_u] though
[name_f]Carissa[/name_f]- Meh, not a fan but not horrible
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]- Not big on it, known one two many growing up
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]- I’m neutral on it, it doesn’t really evoke any emotion out of me good or bad, it’s just kinda boring to me
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]- I really like [name_u]Micah[/name_u]! Underused but grounded
[name_m]Norman[/name_m]- No, don’t like it at all it just sound frumpy to me
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]- Dated but I don’t mind it, cute in a silver era way if that makes sense?
[name_m]Dewey[/name_m]- Meh, I think it could be cute as nn but not as a full
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]- I like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]! It’s taken a bit to warm up to him but I think it’s very sweet, grown up and fun
[name_u]Brett[/name_u]- I actually prefer [name_u]Brett[/name_u] on a girl! On a guy it feels very 90s movie bully but on a girl it feels really sweet and airy to me
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]- Don’t hate it, very clunky and I think needs a little more time for a come back but I could totally see it getting popular again soon
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m]- It has a vintage, cowboy feel to it, I don’t mind it and I could see this one getting popular especially with associations like [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek

While I dislike all these female names, I like [name_m]Norman[/name_m], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], [name_m]Dewey[/name_m], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Chester[/name_m], and [name_m]Kirk[/name_m]!

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f] - light yet clunky, with literary vibes

[name_u]Rae[/name_u] - sparky and cool

[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] - elegant yet modern

[name_u]Lexi[/name_u] - sparky and sweet

[name_f]Carissa[/name_f] - sharp and sleek

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] - I don’t love it - that [name_u]Britt[/name_u] sound doesn’t appeal

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - a bit blah

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] - sparky and sassy

[name_m]Norman[/name_m] - a bit heavy and ‘norm’ doesn’t appeal to me

[name_u]Stanley[/name_u] - old man clunky. I’ve met a number of little Stanleys

[name_m]Dewey[/name_m] - pretty cute, I like it as a nickname for [name_u]Jude[/name_u]

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] - it’s okay but doesn’t shine.

[name_u]Brett[/name_u] - sharp and cool - prefer [name_u]Rhett[/name_u] though

[name_m]Chester[/name_m] - it’s warm but also, it has slightly awkward rhymes and sounds - not too bad, but :person_shrugging:

[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - kind of cool and sharp and I imagine it could fit in with the likes of [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Boone[/name_m] etc.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. Such a classically beautiful name. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Paulina[/name_f] are also lovely—though [name_f]Paulina[/name_f] has always come off as a bit frumpy to me (which might just be my association with the P initial because the Paulinas I’ve met have been anything but)

I don’t care for [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], [name_m]Dewey[/name_m], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], or [name_u]Brett[/name_u]. I don’t mind [name_u]Rae[/name_u] (but prefer Ray), [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], or [name_m]Chester[/name_m].

I like [name_f]Carissa[/name_f] and [name_m]Norman[/name_m] in theory, but I have bad associations with both (something obscure for [name_f]Carissa[/name_f], and [name_m]Norman[/name_m] [name_m]Bates[/name_m] from “Psycho” for Norman). Sort of the same thing for Kirk—there’s a character in “Gilmore Girls” that I love, but that prevents me from taking this name seriously. And I think that [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek would be an immediate association, which I think is cool but might be so associated that they would get tired of constant comments?

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] I like the sound of, but not the -h ending. I would love [name_u]Mica[/name_u] or [name_f]Maika[/name_f] or some variation.

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f] ~ an underrated Shakespearean gem, a fabulous character to share a name with and I love the nn [name_f]Polly[/name_f]

[name_u]Rae[/name_u] ~ feels trendy and boho, it seems to be ‘the new Rose’ in terms of middle names

[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] ~ cool-girl [name_u]French[/name_u] vibes

[name_u]Lexi[/name_u] ~ feels 00s dated to me, a bit ‘mean girl’

[name_f]Carissa[/name_f] ~ I prefer [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] ~ also 00s dated

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] ~ literary, soft and lovely (also I am v biased because it’s my middle name!) I get gentle spring flower vibes, [name_f]Emma[/name_f] Woodhouse, floral cotton dresses, tea and cake

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] ~ reminds me of Formica :see_no_evil:

[name_m]Norman[/name_m] ~ very clunky old man but I think he could come back? I’ve only ever met one, he was a very sweet vicar!

[name_u]Stanley[/name_u] ~ an elderly relative of mine, clunky old man vibes again, but there’s also a sort of fresh [name_f]British[/name_f] charm about him, perhaps because of Cath Kidston’s dog?

[name_m]Dewey[/name_m] ~ 100% [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] in the Middle

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] ~ I love this name because of [name_u]Discovery[/name_u] of Witches which has given it a rugged, irreverent charm to me

[name_u]Brett[/name_u] ~ not a fan, 90s dated

[name_m]Chester[/name_m] ~ I can see how this would be a cute and cuddly old man name except as a [name_u]Brit[/name_u] it’s just the name of the city to me

[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] ~ again, I can see its ‘old man’ appeal but to me it is 100% [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m] [name_m]Kirk[/name_m]. Which to me would be a great reason to use it, I love [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek

Ha, I love topics like these! I have so many names that I don’t even necessarily like, but just curious how other people perceive them.

[name_f]Paulina[/name_f]: It’s really pretty. I associate it with the supermodel. I have considered it for my own list, but I don’t think it fits me.

[name_u]Rae[/name_u]: Fun, simple, and spunky. I like it (for others) as a standalone first name. As a middle name it’s a little too simple/common, but I have it on my list anyway since it’s an honor name for me.

[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]: Much prefer to [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]. It has a sleek confidence. I like that it doesn’t sound too dated and is an unexpectedly refreshing choice nowadays.

[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]: This is my sister’s name (not short for anything), so I’m a little biased. I think it works fine as a standalone name, although it’s a bit mid-2000s. Being completely objective, I aesthetically like the [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] spelling a bit more, but I’m definitely biased by my sister haha.

[name_f]Carissa[/name_f]: Very underrated! I like it better than [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] (although not as much as Carina). I’m a bit sad that you don’t hear it much nowadays. It feels like a pretty, artistic name.

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]: I don’t mind it, but I also tend to dig 80s/90s names a lot. [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] is just fine to me.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: It’s just kind of there. A little simple for me. It’s grown on me, though. I like it the most out of the top 10 girl names.

[name_u]Micah[/name_u]: I think the name is objectively kinda cool and I like that it has a gender neutral vibe to it, but for some reason there’s something off about it. I feel like it’s missing something to my ears.

[name_m]Norman[/name_m]: [name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather’s name. I kinda like it! I definitely like it better than [name_u]Nelson[/name_u]. I hope it has a revival someday.

[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]: Clunky but not cool. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] nerdy, kinda cowboy.

[name_m]Dewey[/name_m]: Decimal system. And just not a particularly flattering sound.

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]: I do prefer Marc/k and Marc/ko, but [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] is good too. It’s simple, recognizable, and handsome. [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] works in all walks of life.

[name_u]Brett[/name_u]: I like it but it definitely fits in with other 80s/90s names. I like it more than [name_m]Brent[/name_m]. The one-syllable ending in an abrupt consonant is kinda cool… like the name is said in one quick breath. It’s kinda snappy and I dig it.

[name_m]Chester[/name_m]: Clunky but not cool. “Chest hair”.

[name_m]Kirk[/name_m]: I was thinking about this one the other day! It definitely sounds “dated” to my ears but when you think about it, it’s kind of a cool name. There really aren’t any other names out there that sound like it, it’s pretty distinctive.

Paulina - nice
Rae - this doesn’t look like a real name to me
Gabrielle - so 90’s
Lexi - I know several, don’t like it
Carissa - ok, but I prefer Clarissa or Clarice
Brittany - also 90’s but feels more dated than Gabrielle, never liked it, mean girl name
Emma - nice, I think Emmy is cute, I know several
Micah - I usually love Bible names but don’t find this one appealing, I know a few including a female Micah
Norman - I love Norman!
Stanley - I really like it but worry it will become unisex (like Riley and others with ley, lee, etc. ending)
Dewey - I like it , would this be short for something!
Marcus - I know several, it’s just ok
Brett- ok, I guess
Chester - I know a dog with this name, I’ve seen some people comment that it sounds like chest hair

I’ll give my thoughts on a few:

[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]: I like [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] as both a nn and a full name
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: I know [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is super popular but I love it!
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]: 90s name to me, dated
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]: my dad’s name lol
[name_u]Brett[/name_u]: know a bunch of guys with this name…another 90s name
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m]: reminds me of the character from [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

Paulina-My grandma was [name_f]Pauline[/name_f], so I want to love this. But for some reason I don’t. I can see the appeal & like how it’s unique but not weird. And it has the nn [name_f]Polly[/name_f], which is fun. Maybe it feels kind of dramatic?

Rae-I don’t know. I like the sound, but not the way it looks. And any other spelling looks too boyish or just too made up. I can’t get into this one either.

Gabrielle-Not my cup of tea; too early 2000s trendy. But I like the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

Lexi-Same as above, but too nick-name-y.

Carissa-I don’t think that I like the way this sounds either, but it’s perfectly nice & different without being weird.

Brittany-Meh, way too dated feeling.

Emma-You’re right; it’s not seen on NB very often at all despite it’s popularity. I think it’s sweet & lovable.

Micah-This is a name that I should like, because it’s Hebrew & gentle but boyish; totally my style! I have a bad association though, unfortunately.

Norman-It’s vintage & quirky, but I don’t love the sound. Maybe just a bit too geeky.

Stanley-Same as above.

Dewey-This is cute. I feel like it should be a nn, but not sure what for. It’s fun though.

Marcus-Totally fine and different. I don’t like [name_m]Marc[/name_m] though, so I don’t know how I feel about this.

Brett-Meh, kind of dated & I don’t like the sound. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I like [name_u]Rhett[/name_u].

Chester-Feels kind of slimey. I like [name_m]Chet[/name_m] though, but maybe as a nn for [name_u]Charles[/name_u].

Kirk-Meh, a bit abrupt and not that pretty, but it’s not awful.

I love [name_f]Paulina[/name_f], [name_f]Paola[/name_f], and [name_f]Paolina[/name_f].
[name_u]Micah[/name_u] is nice, but I actually prefer [name_u]Michael[/name_u].
I used to think [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] was such a lousy name when I was a kid, but then I had a student named [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and I think it’s adorable now.
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], [name_m]Chester[/name_m]. [name_m]Chester[/name_m] Ludgin, American baritone, was a good friend of mine. He created the role of [name_m]Proctor[/name_m] in [name_u]Robert[/name_u] Ward’s The Crucible. I love the nickname [name_m]Chet[/name_m].
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m]. I have cousins named [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] and [name_m]Dirk[/name_m], lol. Not sure why.
