Opinions on this name for 4th son

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! We are having the HARDEST time coming up with a name for our 4th son, due next week! Big brothers are [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walt[/name_m] (short for [name_m]Walter[/name_m]), and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].
I’ve written before getting opinions on the name [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] with nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m], but, while I adore the name [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], I’m not quite feeling it anymore since I really don’t want the obvious nn [name_m]Art[/name_m] and I’m not even crazy about [name_m]Archie[/name_m].
Anyway, I want your feedback on a new name idea that I like but am questioning: [name_m]Roger[/name_m].
[name_m]Roger[/name_m] doesn’t have a good nn which isn’t ideal. However, it isn’t quite as formal as [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] so I feel like it doesn’t really need a nn as much as [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] does - do you agree? My other concern is that, while [name_m]Roger[/name_m] is actually a very old name, people will think of it as a dad name, not a classic name. Does it go well with [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walt[/name_m], and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]?
Middle name will probably be [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] or [name_m]Charles[/name_m] (family names), and I welcome opinions on that, too, but really I want feedback on [name_m]Roger[/name_m].
Thanks so much!

I think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] is a great name! It flows great with [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], and frankly, you can come up with plenty of nicknames, like [name_m]Rodge[/name_m], or [name_u]Reggie[/name_u], or [name_m]Dodge[/name_m] or Dodger ("[name_m]Rodger[/name_m] Dodger!"). It doesn’t sound like a dad name either, it has this unique - due to its lack of use in recent years - yet familiar feel to it that is great. I love the idea of [name_m]Rodger[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] goes well with your other boys. While I understand the concern of the name being more of a dads name. I don’t think that it should stop you from choosing [name_m]Roger[/name_m]. Some people might think is an outdated name but I think it’s lovely and fresh idea and the name will stand out against all the Liams, Noahs and [name_m]Williams[/name_m].
Possible nn [name_f]Roe[/name_f]?

I think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is great!

Suggestions:
[name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Roger[/name_m]! I don’t see it as a dad’s name at all. I prefer [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m], but [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is lovely, as well. I definitely think it fits in with the other names.

If you’re looking for a more “classic” name, have you considered using [name_m]Charles[/name_m] in the FN spot? There’s also: [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. But I quite like your options more!

I think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] is alright, not as fabulous as [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. I think your older boys’ names have a ‘cute’ factor that makes them work on a child even though they’re inherently very formal, handsome and mature names. [name_m]Roger[/name_m], to me, is missing that ‘cute’ factor. I can see it on an adult and old man but everything before that is hard for me to picture. In that same sense, it seems to stick out as the less attractive name in the potential sibset; I’m sorry to say. Have you thought about [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]? I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] would be an amazing addition to [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].

Here are some names you hopefully haven’t thought of yet:
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]
[name_m]Arnold[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Allan[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Marshall[/name_m]
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Martin[/name_m]
[name_m]Stuart[/name_m]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]

Like any of these? Good luck picking a name!!

I love you sons’ names! I think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] is terrible. Sorry. [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] or [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] would be great.

Thanks for the input. I like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], but we call [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] “[name_u]Mal[/name_u]” a lot of the time and don’t want a [name_u]Mal[/name_u] and a [name_u]Cal[/name_u], obviously. I like a lot of the names you mentioned (we have thought about pretty much [name_f]EVERY[/name_f] name unfortunately). [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is actually my favorite, but my husband doesn’t like it. I like [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Stuart[/name_m], and [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. I don’t feel like I can quite pinpoint the cuteness in all of the names compared with [name_m]Roger[/name_m], but I totally appreciate your input and definitely like the style of some of these names. [name_m]Will[/name_m] have to stew on this more I guess!

Well, terrible is definitely not what we are going for. Thanks for he input! I seriously feel like giving up! So hard this time.

I really like your boys’ names, but do not like [name_m]Roger[/name_m]. For me, it just doesn’t have the same vintage, quirky but classic, handsome but also cute feeling your other names have. I would definitely choose [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]!) over [name_m]Roger[/name_m], but understand your reluctance bc of not liking [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. Would [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] automatically by shortened? I don’t even think it needs a nn! In any case, I like the suggestions of [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u] & [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. I also love [name_m]Robert[/name_m] ([name_u]Bo[/name_u]) & [name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u]) as a first name. One not mentioned that I think fits well is [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] ([name_u]Ray[/name_u]). Another [name_f]Berrie[/name_f] has a [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] & a [name_m]Truman[/name_m], which is cute. And maybe too left field, but I love [name_m]Kipling[/name_m] (kip).

I love [name_m]Roger[/name_m]!! If you wanted a nickname, there’s always [name_m]Rodge[/name_m], Rodgie, [name_u]Reggie[/name_u]. [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] sounds very sophisticated.

My vote is for [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. I like that [name_m]Roger[/name_m] is less common, but still classic.

I prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] to [name_m]Roger[/name_m], but since you’re not a fan of the nns for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], it’s probably be best to go with [name_m]Roger[/name_m]. I know a [name_m]Rodger[/name_m] and he is my main association with this name - and he is not a dad. However, most of the other [name_m]Roger[/name_m]'s I know are dads. Despite this, though, it doesn’t really seem to me to be a ‘dad name’. Good nns are [name_m]Rodge[/name_m], [name_u]Reggie[/name_u], [name_u]Gerry[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. [name_m]Roger[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] sounds so good!

I too much prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] to [name_m]Roger[/name_m].

Other names that have a similar feel but I think could be more current, and I think go well with [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] & [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] are;

[name_m]Gordon[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Trevor[/name_m]
[name_m]Kevin[/name_m]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] - instead of [name_m]Roger[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_m]Bryan[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]

I don’t think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] has made as much of a comeback as [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. However, I might be biased because the only people I know named [name_m]Roger[/name_m] are my uncle and some other older males. I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is a better choice, but whatever you choose will be wonderful, I’m sure!

I love your boys names! To me they sound very classic, masculine, and adventurous. I don’t think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] quite fits in with the rest. Here are some names that I also associate with those qualities:
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_m]Cyril[/name_m], [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Alec[/name_m]
[name_m]Everard[/name_m], [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], [name_m]Shepard[/name_m], [name_m]Rowland[/name_m]/[name_m]Roland[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Redmond[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Richmond[/name_m], [name_m]Dunstan[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]

I noticed your boys have some classic author names! If that’s part of your consideration, may I suggest:
[name_m]Aldous[/name_m], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Seamus[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Irving[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is great, but if you’re not feeling it you’re not feeling it. Have you considered any names from Arthurian mythology, like [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Gareth[/name_m], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], or [name_m]Perceval[/name_m]?
