What do you think of the name Bethlehem [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] for a late [name_u]December[/name_u]/[name_u]Christmas[/name_u] baby. I love the name but I don’t know what others would think of it. We would use [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a nn. Please help me with this decision.
Sorry, I think it’s over the top. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is lovely.
Personally I give you all my support in your choice of Bethlehem [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], but the reason why you might have to shoot it down is because a lot of people will doubt your name choice and when baby Bethlehem grows up, people might think her name is weird. But if other people’s opinions really don’t bother you and you can let your daughter use the more wearable [name_f]Beth[/name_f], then I think Bethlehem could work. Otherwise I would recommend [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] Bethlehem or [name_f]Noella[/name_f] Bethlehem for better flow, because [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Noella[/name_f] might be an easier name for a little girl.
Thank you for your comment. I have a very common name which I think is boring and I dislike, but I don’t know what it is like to have a unique name, hence the reason I need advice. I never thought of [name_f]Noella[/name_f], that is very pretty.
I agree with the pp that it’s a little over the top. [name_f]Noella[/name_f] is beautiful and gives the option of many nicknames [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nela[/name_f]. Wdyt of [name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]? love [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a middle name. And goes with the [name_u]December[/name_u] theme.
I like that you’re going for a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] theme name, but I really don’t think that Bethlehem is a great choice of a name, either for boys or girls. I do love [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] though. I like the above suggestion of [name_f]Noella[/name_f], or you could try Noelie. Maybe you could go for other Christmassy names?
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (has the [name_f]Beth[/name_f] too)
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] (has the “[name_f]Beth[/name_f]” part, and is a town in the Bible)
[name_u]December[/name_u]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
I think I would keep [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] in part of the name as a tribute to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and then choose something else for the other name. I am interested to hear what you choose!
I agree with the others about Bethlehem; however, I love the name [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] (or alt. spelling [name_f]Holliday[/name_f]), nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f]…
Using one of the names I could see, but together it seems over the top. Too much of a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]-y vibe there’s no room for anything else.
What about:
[name_f]Bethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelani[/name_f]
[name_f]Christiana[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethel[/name_f] [name_f]Noemi[/name_f]?
[name_f]Bel[/name_f]én is the Spanish pronunciation of Bethlehem and sounds much better as a name, in my opinion. What about [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] [name_f]Bel[/name_f]én?
I love unusual names but this one feels too Christmassy and leaves little room for anything else. It’s completely fine for names to have associations or themes but I always like the idea of leaving some growing room for the child to really own the name. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Noella[/name_f] are both gorgeous. I know someone suggested [name_f]Bethel[/name_f], maybe Hetal (heth-al) would work too? It’s not [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] related but has a similar sound. having 1 [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] related name ([name_f]Noelle[/name_f]) I think gives you the option to go with a middle or first name that isn’t holiday related.
If you’re set on both names going the holiday route here are a few suggestions that might fit the bill. If you have any favorite [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] story’s (especially classics) there are probably lovely names their too.
[name_u]Angel[/name_u]
[name_f]Star[/name_f]
[name_f]Carol[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]/[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]
Poinsettia (I actually know a woman with this name)
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] ([name_f]Star[/name_f] of Bethlehem)
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
Tashia (means [name_m]Born[/name_m] at [name_u]Christmas[/name_u])
[name_f]Merry[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
I might also suggest if you celebrate [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] for religious reasons maybe a bible name would work well with your [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] name as well?
These are all great comments and name suggestions. It definitely gives me lots of ideas to work with. I love The sound of [name_f]Belen[/name_f] and [name_f]Bethel[/name_f], however I don’t know if [name_f]Bethel[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is quite right, it is too rhymish for me.
I’m not a fan of Bethlehem, but it also sounds like a boys name. If you must use it, I think it would be better in the mn spot.
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Noella[/name_f] is lovely, and entirely usable. I think I like [name_f]Noella[/name_f] better as a first, and [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] as a middle. Some suggestions:
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_f]Tindra[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f] [name_u]Yule[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethel[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Holiday[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Hosanna[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] these help
I dislike Bethlehem and would not use it as a given name. If you want to use [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a nickname, why not use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]?
I think the names are fine separately but together they scream [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and it’s just too much.
Bethlehem [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or Bethlehem [name_f]Noa[/name_f] maybe.
I don’t care for Bethlehem [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], I think it leaves little to no room for growth. I do love your choice for a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] name though. There are many ways to find this type of name. Are there any [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] memories that stick out to you? Those memories could lead to names that might not necessary link the child to a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] themed name. I remember standing at the end of the street waiting for my grandparents to arrive for [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] dinner. I have so many memories running down that street. The street name was [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], and I forever link that name to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] time. Also the color red is a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] color too
Here’s some other suggestions:
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Belen[/name_f]
[name_f]Noella[/name_f]
[name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
Variations of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]:
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariel[/name_f]
Variations of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]:
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Beline[/name_f]
I personally think they are too much together, but if you love them, use them. I also agree with the person that said Bethlehem seems more like a boys name than a girls. However I don’t think if you decide to stick with Bethlehem that is much of an issue, especially if paired with a feminine middle name, maybe one that is not so themey. I also think that if you want the nick name [name_f]Beth[/name_f] but want a fuller name maybe [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is better choice than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. That could be because I fine [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] boring, which I know is not a very popular opinion, but it is mine. [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is also a biblical town, yet not as recognizable as Bethlehem. I also think the suggestion of [name_f]Bethel[/name_f] is quite nice, but to my ear [name_f]Bethel[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] sounds a bit off, but for you it might not. In the end go with what you love, since it is your child.
It’s VERY biblical/religious. It just seems very literal. I think it would be a-ok if you are [name_m]Christian[/name_m]/Catholic and your religion is a large part of your identity and life. If that’s not the case, I wouldn’t use the name.
I like your style, but I agree it’s a bit too much [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and she’s gonna be around all year long
Are you looking for a christmas name or religious or both?
The suggestion of [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] that one of the other posters came up with is super cute.
I like some pretty unusual names, but Bethlehem is a bit too out-there for me. I agree that it’s masculine sounding, which isn’t awful, and I don’t generally like place names, but I find Bethlehem to be VERY religious, and while I don’t mind more subtle religious names and get their appeal, I feel like Bethlehem could be very problematic if 1) your child grew up to be irreligious, change religions, or just not be AS religious, 2) cause issues in getting a job for religious as well as other reasons and 3) make the child uncomfortable if they didn’t want to share their religious views.
I do like many of the other users suggestions for winter/[name_u]Christmas[/name_u] themed names.
I think it’s really over the top and I would hate my parents if they named me Bethlehem. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is christmassy enough, in my opinion.
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] would be lovely.
