Opinions on Winslow

I am really in love with the name [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] right now but I have a few concerns:

  • If you break it in half, you have win/slow or wins/low, neither of which are very positive. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that would ever be a problem? [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] was ruined for me when someone pointed out that it’s beat/rice together.

  • Is it too feminine? I don’t need my hypothetical male children to have names like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] or whatever oozing-with-testosterone name you can think of, but I’m not really into unisex names and I don’t want to worry about a potential son having to point out he’s a “boy [name_u]Winslow[/name_u].” I know of one boy [name_u]Addison[/name_u] that was named before the name went wild on the girl side.

I’ve had this off and on my list for quite a long time, partly because I like [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] [name_m]Homer[/name_m], but also because it’s just a cool name to me. What are your thoughts on [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]?

I like it. I would have never thought to break it down into win and slow. Since it’s said more like Winzlo than [name_u]Win[/name_u]+slow.

Great alternative to [name_m]Winston[/name_m] which I’ve been seeing pop up more and more lately. I don’t find it feminine at all! Is it unisex?! hmm appears it is…

I wouldn’t worry about people breaking it up. I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out. When I first read it, I thought of it for a girl because I’m constantly looking for a full name for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and this seemed perfect! I could definitely imagine it on a boy too, because, as emsky pointed out, it’s similar to [name_m]Winston[/name_m].
