My husband and I are struggling with naming our second daughter and we could use your help and opinions. Our first daughter is [name]Annemarie[/name] [name]Helen[/name]. Those that know her well often call her [name]Annie[/name]. I didn’t intend on using [name]Annie[/name] but now find it endearing. Looking for another classic, yet unique name. I would prefer names that have the options for endearing nicknames but not a nickname that will be used all the time.
I would like to use [name]Claire[/name] or some form of [name]Elizabeth[/name] for middle names. They are family names.
Our ideas so far…
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Claire[/name] nm-[name]Viv[/name] or vivi
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Elyse[/name] no nickname
[name]Roselyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name]-would like to pronounce rose-lyn not roz-lyn–is that too confusing? nm rose or rosie
[name]Brynlee[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]-nm [name]Brynn[/name] but having trouble convincing my husband of this one
I also really like [name]Josie[/name] but can’t find a way to make it seem more professional
We would love your opinions and impressions of the names listed but are also open to suggestions.
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Claire[/name]- Very cute! Classic and sweet.
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]- The flow isn’t the best, but both names are nice.
[name]Roselyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name]- Maybe [name]Rosalyn[/name]? If it were [name]Rosalyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name], It would be gorgeous.
[name]Brynlee[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]- Once again, the flow isn’t great, but both names are cute.
Suggestions:
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elyse[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name]
[name]Clarity[/name] [name]Beth[/name] (I adore this!)
[name]Rosaline[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
Esmé [name]Clara[/name]
I love the name [name]Josie[/name] just the way it is! <3 If you really want to make it professional, as someone has already suggested, Josephine works beautifully Josephine Claire is probably best, because Josephine Elizabeth would be too long.
I love all of your other names by the way … the only one that isn’t fantastic is Roselyn, but that’s simply just me wanting to pronounce it Roz-Lyn. I would still go for Josephine Claire, but any of your other names are just as pretty
One more thing I just thought of … Annie & Josie! <3
I like [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Claire[/name] the most and I think it fits with [name]Annemarie[/name] the most. I was also going to suggest [name]Josephine[/name] for [name]Josie[/name].
Thanks for the help so far. Here are changes we have made to our short list.
[name]Josephine[/name] added-We originally didn’t like it but are now reconsidering it. My husband is now worried [name]Josie[/name] sounds too country.
I like Joselle and [name]Josette[/name] but my husband doesn’t like names he hasn’t heard before.
[name]Rosalyn[/name]-not [name]Roselyn[/name]—we like that much better…but is it still too confusing?
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Claire[/name] is the name we keep coming back to. My husband is just struggling with associating the name with an old lady.
We are considering putting [name]Clarity[/name] [name]Beth[/name] on the list….but is there a nickname that would make sense?
I like [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Claire[/name] best of your choices. [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name] is great too. I’m not on the [name]Roselyn[/name]/[name]Rosalyn[/name] train, but either is fine, just nms. I do not care for [name]Clarity[/name] or [name]Clarity[/name] [name]Beth[/name], sorry, just no way around that one. I do love [name]Claire[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. [name]Annemarie[/name] [name]Helen[/name], nn [name]Annie[/name], is so so great, I mean I absolutely [name]LoVe[/name] it. My personal pick would be [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. I have known a couple [name]Annemarie[/name]'s so I don’t find it uncommon, tho admittedly it’s less common than [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I like them together bc they both seem so classic and beautiful with great nn options.
I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] for you! [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elyse[/name_f] is sweet. I really like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] stylistically next to [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] - it complements it but doesn’t sound too similar. You could get to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] from [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] but I’m usually not a big fan of virtue names as first names so I’d just go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
I think any name resembling Roselyn/Rosalyn runs the risk of sometimes being called ROZ-lin instead of ROSE-lin. I wonder if you’d like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]? (Too similar to [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] maybe, in spirit?)
I love [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] works for getting to it and works next to [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] as well. I have a good friend [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] who also goes by Josie/Jocy, but [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] fits better with [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] to me.
[name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] is lovely and classic… I think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (or maybe Vivienne?) [name_f]Claire[/name_f] works really nicely. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] to me feels younger than [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
I’m not sure [name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] or [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] strike quite the same vibe (which is maybe why your OH can’t quite get on board?) but there are some names that are close that you might like.
These include
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (which would definitely get pronounced with the 3 syllables rather than the Roz)
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
Briar-Rose
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] (Joss or Josie)
[name_f]Clarity[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] sounds quite off style compared to the other contenders (and quite country, which seems to be something holding your OH back from Josie). But you could use [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Clarabel[/name_f] as a nickname.
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]: I really like it,but I wouldn’t choose it if you want an unique name, because [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (especially with the spelling Vivienne)
is very popular at the moment
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elyse[/name_f]: I absolutely love it!
[name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] : I like it and I love the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]: I love it!
I suggest:
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] or [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn could be [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f]
I love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! I also love the sound of [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]!
[name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] seem a little too trendy for the beautiful and sophisticated classic, [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f].
