opinions please

my husband and I are expecting our first child…a baby girl. My husband is Israeli and tends to prefer traditional israeli/biblical names. I have a cousin who passed away many years ago who I would like to acknowledge in the name of our daughter. Her name was [name]Laine[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]. So far, the names we agree upon are “[name]Leah[/name],” pronounced "leya. I dont want the traditional spelling as I am sure ppl will call her [name]Lea[/name]. I am thinking of [name]Leia[/name] or [name]Laia[/name]? If I choose [name]Laia[/name], it is spelled more like my cousins name “laine”. The other name we like is [name]Jade[/name] or my husband’s choice, [name]Jada[/name]. So here are all of our options including middle names…pls let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions;
[name]Leia[/name] [name]Alexis[/name] or [name]Laia[/name] [name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Laia[/name] [name]Jade[/name]
[name]Jade[/name] [name]Alexa[/name]
[name]Jade[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Jada[/name] [name]Laine[/name]

what do you think about [name]Leia[/name] [name]Laine[/name]??? is it too much of the L sounds???

[name]Leah[/name]=[name]LEE[/name]-uh in the US. Everyone will prn it that way so if you are wanting [name]Lay[/name]-uh I would it differently.
I would prn [name]Laia[/name] LYE-uh
but [name]Leia[/name] is prn [name]Lay[/name]-uh I believe.

In regards to [name]Leia[/name], most people will assume you are star wars fans do to the princess [name]Leia[/name] connection. Not sure if that bothers you.

Others you might like:
[name]Laila[/name] or [name]Layla[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Lainey[/name]
[name]Elaina[/name]

[name]Jade[/name] makes an okay mn but I wouldnt use it as a first.

I have a friend named [name]Lea[/name] (as in the female version of [name]Leo[/name]). It’s pronounced the Italian way [name]Lay[/name] - ah, like you want to pronounce it. And yes, people call her [name]Lee[/name]-ah all the time.

[name]Leia[/name] is the [name]Star[/name] Wars spelling I believe. People will assume you are fans if you spell it this way.

That being said, I love the name [name]Lea[/name].

The name that came to mind immediately is [name]Elaina[/name] or [name]Elaine[/name]. I think either would be a wonderful way to honor your cousin, and both are also traditional enough to please your husband (though not biblical). I think it also avoids all the pronunciation issues associated with [name]Laia[/name], which also looks awkward written down.

Another option that I think would be quite beautiful and still honor your cousin is [name]Eve[/name] [name]Alexandria[/name]. (This might also better suit your husband’s preferences).

Thanks guys, these are all really great suggestions that my husband and I are now considering

Give your baby a 2 part first name and then a regular middle name.
You and your husband both get what you want. every one wins.

[name]Jada[/name]-[name]Alaxandra[/name] [name]Laya[/name].

I love the name [name]Laia[/name], [name]Leia[/name], [name]Lea[/name]… I personally like it [name]Laia[/name] because that is the way that my friend spells it… I like [name]Laia[/name] [name]Alexis[/name] a lot! :slight_smile:

I really like [name]Jade[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]!

Some suggestions;

[name]Alexa[/name] [name]Jade[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Jade[/name]
[name]Laia[/name]/[name]Laya[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Laya[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Jade[/name]
[name]Joanna[/name] [name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Elaine[/name] [name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Lainey[/name] [name]Alexa[/name]

What do you think?
