My favorite from your list is [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], but I can’t think of a short nickname…
Next I like [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] with the nickname [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] or [name_m]Fred[/name_m].
I don’t like [name_u]Francis[/name_u], especially with your other sons. And [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is too popular I think.
Thanks fivebabymen. I think my pick is [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] too with [name_m]Sol[/name_m] as a nickname but I’m not in love!
[name_m]Frederic[/name_m] has been on our list for a long time but I’m not fond of [name_m]Fred[/name_m]! If we used [name_u]Francis[/name_u] the nickname would be [name_m]Frank[/name_m], but I wonder if [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is a bit to trendy right now?
I really like [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] with the nn of [name_u]Red[/name_u], [name_m]Eric[/name_m] or [name_m]Ric[/name_m]. My second choice would be [name_u]Francis[/name_u] - I don’t think it is trendy - it is a “new” classic that has been around thousands of years, with a rich history.
I’d be nervous to use [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] with [name_u]Red[/name_u] as a nickname because I think here in Australia [name_m]Fred[/name_m] would prevail. Our second son, [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], we’d hoped to call [name_m]Augie[/name_m] as a nickname but it very quickly became [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is my favorite from your list followed by [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Francis[/name_u] too, but for me, I would be bothered to have two sons whose names both ended in the s sound. However, it sounds like your boys mostly go by their nns so perhaps that won’t bother you.
I love your other sons’ names. Although I like the names [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m], I can’t think of any cute nicknames for them (I’m not a fan of [name_m]Frank[/name_m]). I think [name_u]Francis[/name_u] might be more popular than [name_m]Felix[/name_m] in the next few years due to the pope. I like [name_m]Soloman[/name_m] as a middle better than as a first name. I agree with pp that [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is the best of the bunch and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the unexpected nn of [name_u]Red[/name_u].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] from your list - they go well with the sibset!
Obvious nns for [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] are [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_m]Ric[/name_m].
I know a 32yo [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and he goes by Solo, [name_m]Sol[/name_m]. Can’t pinpoint any additional nn for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m].
Good luck!
From your list and with your sons handsome names, I like [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. Only nicknames I can think of is: [name_m]Sol[/name_m] or Solo for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] & Fray or [name_u]Free[/name_u] (maybe too feminine for some?) or [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] for [name_m]Frederic[/name_m].
I admire your naming style. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] are wonderful. I like all of your options so here are my ratings.
1 [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - a strong and masculine “match” with the older boys
2 [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] - I prefer the [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] spelling. A majestic choice.
3 [name_m]Felix[/name_m] - a “natural” fit for a sibling to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. This is actually my favourite on your list but it does have any issue: it lacks a good nickname option. Fell? [name_f]Flick[/name_f]? [name_m]Eli[/name_m]?
3 [name_u]Francis[/name_u] - I love this name but not the similar “s” ending with [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]/[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
Well, I have a [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and a [name_u]Gus[/name_u] ([name_m]Augustus[/name_m]), so you know my pick! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names. I have to say that my son is now 2 1/2 and I have yet to meet another [name_m]Felix[/name_m] OR meet anyone who knows a little [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. A few people have had grandfathers or great grandfathers with the name, but that is all. I completely love his name! As far as a nickname, we all call him by his full name, except one little cousin who had a hard time pronouncing it and therefore called him, “Kix.”
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is more popular than [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (by a lot), I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] goes great with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u], though it doesn’t have the awesome nn.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Sol[/name_m] would be my pick
But I also think [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ric[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] would be cute.
Thanks all, great input. Looks like the field is split. I have to say that the lack of nickname option for [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is my biggest reservation.
While I like [name_m]Frederic[/name_m], here in Australia he’d inevitably get [name_m]Fred[/name_m] which I loathe.
I get the comments re the “s” ending with [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] but I suspect [name_u]Francis[/name_u] would be [name_m]Frank[/name_m] most of the time so I don’t see it as an issue.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is a long time favourite but I’m not sure that “[name_m]Sol[/name_m]” is a suitable nickname.
Thanks everyone, you’ve given me lots to think about.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your naming style. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] were on our last for our last boy…
Also in [name_m]Oz[/name_m] so I get your concern re: nicknames.
My first pick would be [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Mannie[/name_m] (if you don’t like [name_m]Sol[/name_m]) - this may be a bit of a stretch but it works phonetically and is imo spunky and fun. I know a 7 yr old [name_m]Mannie[/name_m] who is great fun.
Second: [name_u]Francis[/name_u] nn [name_m]Frank[/name_m]/[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. Makes me think Sinatra and that singing frog in ‘Meet the Robinsons’
Third: [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], although I agree [name_m]Fred[/name_m] is almost inevitable
Fourth: [name_m]Felix[/name_m], no nn.
Other suggestions: [name_m]Ludovic[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ludo[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] nn [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u], [name_m]Charles[/name_m] nn [name_m]Chas[/name_m], [name_m]Richard[/name_m] nn [name_m]Richie[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] is my favourite and I think it goes brilliantly with your other sons names. I love the nickname [name_u]Fran[/name_u] but [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] are also good options.
