We love the name [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], but I’m afraid everyone will hate it when they hear it. I also love the nicknames [name_m]Gil[/name_m], [name_u]Bertie[/name_u], [name_m]Gib[/name_m]. I’m 20 weeks so we still have time but I can’t seem to find anything else that I like as much. I also love [name_u]Eliot[/name_u], but DH doesn’t care for it.
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is in the old man/nerd name category for me, but it’s still useable if you don’t mind some people having negative opinions about it. Someone will have a negative opinion about any name you choose anyway. I do like the nicknames you mentioned.

I love the nickname [name_m]Gil[/name_m], and I say go for it!
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is a good name. I actually prefer it to most other “bert” names…[name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], etc. I automatically think of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables. But maybe [name_m]Giles[/name_m] or [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]? I like the suggestions of [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] also.
I’m not a fan of [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], but the nickname [name_m]Gil[/name_m] will steal hearts! I say if you love it, go for it. The people around you will fall in love with the baby, and the name right after! 
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is a fine name. Yeah, some people will think it sounds old-fashioned or nerdy. But honestly, every name will have people that aren’t fans of it for some reason. There’s no awful reason why [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is unusable, so go for it. I love [name_m]Gil[/name_m] as a nn, [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is cute too.
I love [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]. If others don’t, who cares? It’s not a name I think will hold him back in any way. If people don’t like it, it’s just not their taste. We all have different taste. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let the fact that some find a name you love out of fashion stop you from using the name you love.
I’m not a big fan of it but there definitely isn’t anything wrong with it. My favourite nickname for it is “[name_m]Gilby[/name_m]” though. [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] is also very handsome!

While [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] isn’t on my list of potential boys names, if you both like it and are on board, I say go with it! I know parents are worried about their future children being picked on by other kids due to their name. But, honestly, bullies will do what bullies do, no matter the name. Says more about the bully than your kid, no matter what! I personally like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], but that’s near the top of my list, so I’m a little biased! (I spell it [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]). 
And if people give you a hard time with the name, doesn’t matter; [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is a fine name so don’t listen to them.

[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] has never been one of my favorite names, I don’t seem like to like any ‘bert’ names. That’s always had me torn though, because I absolutely love [name_m]Gil[/name_m]. I think it’s adorable. I’m sure if I met a little [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], I’d change my opinion on the name. I think if you truly love it, you should go for it!!

I’m not sure I’d use it myself but I like it a lot! [name_m]Gil[/name_m] is a great nickname. I know someone who named their son [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] last year. I think it could definitely work. If you love it, go for it.
I love [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]. It makes me think of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, so I think of it as a dashing and romantic name.
