Opinions/Questions

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name], what do you all think?

Also, nicknames for [name]Caroline[/name]? ([name]Caro[/name] is pretty and has a nice meaning)

Thirdly, in a sibset, are [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name] too… stately as sisters? (Think [name]Carolina[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name]!)

And finally, my Fiances mother is named [name]Carolyn[/name], but, she isn’t exactly someone I want to honour, (using [name]Caroline[/name], would be a nod to a teacher that is/was very instrumental in both my Fiances and my own education) Is [name]Caroline[/name] too close to [name]Carolyn[/name] for comfort? (Please note, [name]Jane[/name] is for my own mother!)

Thanks Ladies!

I love [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. It seems sweet but strong.

Nicknames for [name]Caroline[/name]:
[name]Carly[/name]
[name]Cara[/name]
[name]Cari[/name]
[name]Coco[/name]

I don’t think [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name] are bad together but I can see people jokingly ask “Where is [name]Georgia[/name]?” or something along those lines.

I would probably think that [name]Caroline[/name] was named after [name]Carolyn[/name], especially if I knew that was the grandmother’s name. If you are not close with the grandmother, it doesn’t seem like most people would know her name. Except your family of course. I think it depends on what the grandmother would think. Would she think the baby was named after her?

I think [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a nice compromise to honor two grandmothers (even if you aren’t jumping to honor [name]Carolyn[/name]) and your teacher. By “too close for comfort,” do you mean if the two names sounding similar will be confusing, or are you asking if she’ll assume you’re honoring her when you don’t mean to? I think a nickname will ease the former. As for the latter, I think she would see [name]Caroline[/name] as honoring her (esp. given [name]Jane[/name]'s family importance); would that be a bad thing?

[name]Caroline[/name] has lots of great nns. [name]Caro[/name] is cool. [name]Callie[/name], [name]Lina[/name], [name]Caddie[/name] (like pioneer girl [name]Caddie[/name] Woodlawn!), [name]Carrie[/name], and [name]Carly[/name] are all good, too. I think [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name] are fine sisters. If anything, it’s sweet: the states sit side by side; maybe the two girls would be just as close

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a lovely, classic, beautiful name. My favorite nickname for [name]Caroline[/name] is [name]Carly[/name].

Och, love [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name]! It’s so classic, yet sweet and feminine. I personally love [name]Caro[/name] (I have a friend who is [name]Caroline[/name], nn [name]Caro[/name]!), but I also like [name]Cara[/name] and [name]Callie[/name] for more soft-and-sweet (as opposed to spunky and fun) nn options. I think [name]Linny[/name] would be pretty cute, too, but [name]Caroline[/name] doesn’t really have the [name]Lynn[/name] sound in it.

As for [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name]–it doesn’t really seem glaringly obvious to me, I don’t think it’d put me off. Especially with nicknames. And I assume you wouldn’t go naming other daughters [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Dakota[/name] and [name]Alabama[/name] and Alaska. As for [name]Caroline[/name] honoring your to-be [name]MIL[/name], I’m not sue what to say. I think she would certainly notice the similarities, and if she’s sort of stuck up and high on herself (which I don’t really know, but it sounds like you aren’t a huge fan), she may just decide that it was in honor of her, even if you say countless times that it wasn’t. I imagine that it’d be hard to honor a very meaningful teacher without seemingly honoring [name]Carolyn[/name], though–I’m guessing the teacher’s name was [name]Caroline[/name]? If not, is there another way to honor her?

I [name]LOVE[/name] it! Though it will sound like you are honoring your [name]MIL[/name].
[name]Callie[/name] is such a pretty nickname. [name]Carrie[/name] sounds fresh all of a sudden!

I’ll try to answer the questions I saw posted

[name]Caroline[/name] is the instructors full first name, so we would be for sure using her name in that case, I’m not sure of another way to honour her otherwise. She is a spunky, funny, adventurous woman with a great personality, and fully what I would picture a [name]Caroline[/name] to be!

I am sure my mother in law, and any others that know she is [name]Carolyn[/name], would assume [name]Caroline[/name] is for her. I don’t have anything huge against her, but we haven’t always had the best relationship, and I’m not sure how even I feel about picking a name so close to hers. And it would only ruffle feathers if she ever heard me pointedly say that it wasn’t to honour her.

[name]Love[/name] the nn suggestions of [name]Carrie[/name] (My best friend growing up was a [name]Carri[/name]) and [name]Caddie[/name] is really cute too! [name]Callie[/name] and [name]Carly[/name] are out! ([name]Callie[/name] was a bully when I was in highschool, and [name]Carly[/name] is one of my fiances only cousins, we see her every holiday)

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a wonderful name. I know an amazing woman named [name]Caroline[/name] and an equally amazing [name]Jane[/name], so not only would I like them anyway, but I have a fantastic association for both names.

Bummer that there’s a minor issue with the [name]MIL[/name]. I think this might be a situation where you could say, “I knew I always wanted to name my daughter after my instructor, and then when I realized that she’d also have a name in common with her grandmother, it was clear this name was meant to be!” Big big smile and lots and lots of warmth when you say it - I think if you present it as a “what a lucky, wonderful coincidence! it helped seal the deal!” you could be honest about where the inspiration came from so as the kiddo gets older everyone is on the same page about her naming story.

I love [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] and the only naysayer in my circle was my mom and her “burn” on the name was it was too classy for the family! (“You’re not having a princess! [name]Caroline[/name] is a rich name!”)

I like [name]Callie[/name] honestly but [name]Caro[/name] and [name]Carrie[/name] are fine.

[name]Don[/name]'t hit me, but I’ve never liked [name]Virginia[/name]. Unless it had intense personal significance I would ponder [name]Veronica[/name] or [name]Victoria[/name] instead. Or I would use it as a middle name. [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] (I drew a similarly classic name out of a hat) is quite attractive as a pairing even to an avowed non-fan of [name]Virginia[/name].

Very pretty!
