Opinions Sought On Newly Discovered Name

This week I heard a name that was new to me that I just keeping thinking about - [name]Della[/name]. I met a young twenty something with this name. Standing alone I might have thought the name too old lady but seeing it on this girl made me realize it is very wearable.

I think I am intrigued by this name because it has the vintage feel that is so fresh again but is not one of those vintage names that I feel like are being overused right now and will be exhausted again very soon.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Can [name]Della[/name] be used alone? If not what are some longer forms? I immediately thought of [name]Adele[/name], but I’d be hesitant to use it because everyone would assume I used the name because of the singer. The other name that could p reduce [name]Della[/name] is [name]Adelaide[/name] which I don’t particularly like and wouldn’t use for other reasons.

  2. What are possible MNs? Potential MNs that I like generally are below but I don’t know if I like any.

[name]Kate[/name] - too short?
[name]Mae[/name] - family name but again too short with [name]Della[/name]?
[name]Lillian[/name] - again a family’s name but too many Ls.
[name]Felicity[/name] - family name.
[name]Patricia[/name] - family name
[name]Therese[/name] - another family name
[name]Madeleine[/name] - I have always loved this name but discarded it as a first name because it is too overused but it could work as a middle.
[name]Camille[/name] - like this name.

Would love to hear any thoughts!

I like [name]Della[/name] just the way it is, but you could use [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], or [name]Adeline[/name] as a longer option.
[name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name], [name]Della[/name] [name]Madeline[/name], and [name]Della[/name] [name]Therese[/name] are my faves.

I think it would work. It seems to fit well with the “ella” trend, and may come off as an attempt to be unique, but still on trend. It doesn’t come off as old lady or vintage to me; comes off as completely modern

With your middle name options I like [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Della[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], and [name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name] the most.

I love [name]Della[/name], as its own name. It has the same feel to be as “[name]Anna[/name],” which is a full name. Maybe because it rhymes with [name]Bella[/name], people think it sounds incomplete? I have brought it up on here a few times, with no love for it. I feel like [name]Gretchen[/name] in “Mean Girls” trying to make [name]Della[/name] happen!

[name]Della[/name] [name]Therese[/name] is beyond beautiful!

  1. I think that [name]Della[/name] can definitely be used alone, and would be sweet. I’m a huge fan of sleek, clipped forms of names, and I don’t see the point in providing a long formal name that is never used. If [name]Della[/name] is what you love, [name]Della[/name] is what you should use. If you do decide to use a longer name, here are some suggestions:

Adonelia (ad-o-[name]NEEL[/name]-ya)
Delana
[name]Delma[/name]
Deloria
Delzie
Fidellia
[name]Idella[/name]

Other names similar to [name]Della[/name] that you may like are [name]Nella[/name], [name]Cilla[/name], and [name]Darla[/name].

  1. [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is not too short, and you could actually call her the whole thing all the time if you wanted to! I really like that. My grandma is [name]Anna[/name], middle name [name]Mae[/name], but she has always ALWAYS gone by [name]Anna[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. People think it’s her full first name. If you were so inclined, you could let [name]Della[/name] be known as [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. I like all of your other middle names as well, with the exception of [name]Kate[/name] which for some reason doesn’t sound good to me. Other ideas:

[name]Della[/name] [name]Rosalyn[/name]
[name]Della[/name] Rosemaie
[name]Della[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Milena[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]

I’ve never known [name]Della[/name] to be a nickname for anything. I grew up with a girl named [name]Della[/name], she’s in her mid-20’s now. There’s also the singer/actress [name]Della[/name] [name]Reese[/name].

[name]One[/name] syllable middle names sound fine with [name]Della[/name] and I think the only time a name would sound kind of choppy with a one syllable middle is if the first name was one syllable as well. [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is really cute!

Oh I love this name! With [name]Ella[/name] being so popular, I don’t know why [name]Della[/name] isn’t.
I do know a middle aged lady named [name]Della[/name].
[name]Della[/name] [name]Kate[/name] would make it sound modern and spunky, but I like [name]Della[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] better.
It’s a bit too long though. I suppose it depends on your last name.
[name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is also really sweet! I love it! Other similar sounding names would work too. [name]Della[/name] [name]Rae[/name], [name]Della[/name] [name]Kaye[/name], [name]Della[/name] [name]Shae[/name].
None of the other names on your list sound right to me. They are too long. Shorter names are better.
[name]Della[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Faith[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Star[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Skye[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]

[name]Della[/name] can certainly be used on its own. It was fairly popular around the turn of the century, and especially now with all of the [name]Ella[/name] names popular again [name]Della[/name] seems ripe for use. It’s a pretty name. My only hesitation is that it feels mismatched with [name]Caroline[/name]. [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] is elegant and regal; [name]Della[/name], regardless of what middle name you pair it with, will be spunky and just a little bit country.

[name]Della[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] or [name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name] are my favorites from the names you listed. Have you considered [name]Della[/name] as a nickname for [name]Madeleine[/name]?

[name]Della[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] - I like this combo very pretty. [name]Noble[/name] and [name]Heavenly[/name]

From your list:

[name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name]

A variation from your list

[name]Della[/name] [name]Maebelle[/name] - [name]Noble[/name] and Lovable Beauty. Very good qualities! And it lengthens [name]Mae[/name] for you.

My grandmother’s name is [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name]

She goes almost exclusively by [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (as sort of a double first). I’ve always loved it.

She has a daughter named [name]Della[/name] @manda, but @manda is a bit dated now. [name]Just[/name] thought I would give my experience with people named [name]Della[/name].

I’d stick with [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name]!

[name]Della[/name] could be a nn for [name]Cordelia[/name], or even [name]Cordell[/name], (I met a nice [name]Cordell[/name] the other day, new name for me!) [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Della[/name] [name]Kate[/name] are adorable!

Thanks so much for the feedback! There are a number of ideas that I never would have thought of!

I had an Aunt [name]Dell[/name] sometimes Aunt [name]Della[/name]. Her full first name was [name]Birdella[/name].

I agree with the other ladies, Della Mae is just lovely!

I just heard the name [name]Della[/name] a couple days ago as well and fell in love with it! I think it’s beautiful and far less common than the popular [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Stella[/name], and maybe more sophisticated. I love [name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name]! [name]Della[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] is pretty but kind of a mouthful of L’s. [name]Della[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] and [name]Della[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] also come to mind.

I think [name]Della[/name] is gorgeous and wearable as a stand alone name. Other full name options are [name]Adela[/name]/[name]Adella[/name] (love this one!), [name]Delia[/name], [name]Delilah[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name]/[name]Delfina[/name].
I love [name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name] and [name]Della[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]!

Ooooh, [name]Della[/name] [name]Maud[/name] or [name]Della[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]?! I think those are both so pretty

What a great find! [name]Della[/name] is really cute, and I think it could be used on it’s own.
For middles:

[name]Della[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Therese[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] this helps!

Another vote for [name]Della[/name] [name]Camille[/name]!

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Della[/name]! I think it’s great by itself, much like [name]Stella[/name]. I would use [name]Maeve[/name] or [name]June[/name] as middle names. Though I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name], I think it would be a great full name for [name]Della[/name] if you don’t think [name]Della[/name] is substantial on its own.

I would advise against [name]Della[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] as someone suggested, as it sounds exactly like delinquent haha!

I like [name]Cordella[/name], perhaps even better than [name]Cordelia[/name]. [name]Della[/name] as a short form of [name]Cordella[/name] would be nice, I think.
([name]Cordell[/name] is listed as a [name]Male[/name] name; I prefer [name]Cordella[/name] for a girl.)
