[name]Hi[/name] Everyone,
We are having a baby girl and I am pretty stuck on names. My top choices right now are [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] or [name]Reese[/name] but would love the opinion of the forum. I have a Latin background, so I am looking for a name that will be easily pronounced in Portuguese (the only drawback of [name]Reese[/name], since that one will be a tricky one for relatives to say!). We don’t have very strict criteria–we just want a name that is not too, too popular and one that is a straight-forward spelling, since the baby’s last name is a bit tricky to spell.
Please feel free to also suggest other names that may be similar to the names above. Below are my thoughts on the names above:
[name]Vivian[/name]- I really love this name since it means lively/full of life. Nicknames [name]Viv[/name], [name]Vivi[/name] or [name]Viva[/name] are also cute. Is it a bit too old lady??
[name]Isabel[/name]- I have always loved this name but with [name]Isabella[/name] being such a popular name, it might get lumped in to that pool?
[name]Viviana[/name]- Too much flourish perhaps? Does it sound snobby?
[name]Susanna[/name]-My husband’s pick. What is a good nickname for [name]Susanna[/name]? I can’t stop singing the song “Oh [name]Susanna[/name], oh don’t you cry for me”…but I’m trying to be open minded.
[name]Savannah[/name]-Also my hubby’s pick. Nickname?
[name]Reese[/name] - I love this name. [name]Just[/name] tricky to say in portuguese or spanish but maybe people can learn?
Well, I have to say that I am pretty biased to [name]Viviana[/name]. I’m still looking for a place on my list for it! I would love it as a first name but it isn’t high up on my list for a first yet. But I [name]LOVE[/name] it. I think it is gorgeous and not any more frilly than [name]Isabella[/name], which is so popular. I would definitely choose [name]Viviana[/name] over [name]Isabel[/name]. I don’t think you hear [name]Viviana[/name] nearly as much as [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Isabella[/name] etc… [name]Reese[/name] is my son’s middle name and I prefer it on a boy. ([name]Just[/name] my opinion though and I love [name]Viviana[/name] so that gets my vote!) Good luck!
Why not use 1 as a first name and 2 others in the middle. Options that came to my mind were [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Reese[/name] and [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Reese[/name]
I love [name]Vivian[/name] out of your options, love the sound, the meaning, I dont think its too old sounding at all! [name]Vivi[/name] is just adorable.
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Susanna[/name] (to incorp. dad’s pick) or [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Reese[/name] (stick the one with possible pronunciation issues in the middle?)
Yes, I do think [name]Isabel[/name] tends to get lumped in a bit with all the Isabellas/Isabelles/Bellas…not that its not still a beautiful name, but it doesnt have the same impact as it did for me before it got so popular.
We are having a girl and [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] are both on our list, so obviously those are my favorites on your list. DH eventually vetoed [name]Susannah[/name], but I LOVED the nn [name]Sunny[/name]. To me, your names all sound feminine and ladylike except [name]Reese[/name] is more sporty and modern, so maybe there is a name like [name]Reese[/name] that would be easier for relatives to pronounce?
I adore [name]Vivian[/name], it’s classic, yet vivacious and pretty. I agree that [name]Isabella[/name] is a bit too popular and [name]Isabel[/name] is popular as well. I would go with [name]Isaline[/name], [name]Isadora[/name], Isidori, or [name]Isannah[/name]. As for [name]Savannah[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name], I think they have similar feels but [name]Susannah[/name] is far less popular (I don’t think it’s in the top 1000) and feels more sophisticated to me. Nicknames: [name]Susie[/name] (very cute and old fashioned but works well on a modern baby, I know one), [name]Zuzu[/name] à la It’s a WOnderful Life, [name]Annah[/name], [name]Annie[/name], Suz, Suza, Zannah/Sannah
[name]Susanna/name is my favorite, but I’m biased. It’s currently number 1 on my list. I like [name]Sosie[/name] as a nickname, but also [name]Zuzu[/name], [name]Sanne[/name] and [name]Zanna[/name].
