What do you think of [name]Oscar[/name]? My partner wants a name with some Irish background and his name has a warrior meaning as well ([name]Scott[/name]), so it seems like a really good fit. [name]Do[/name] you think it’s maybe getting too popular? And are there any other nicknames for it other than [name]Ozzie[/name]? I’m Australian and don’t really want to be calling him by the slang term for his nationality.
I love [name]Oscar[/name]. I think its classic and strong, while also being fun.
(Maybe you could call him kiwi instead ;D)
I adore [name]Oscar[/name]! I think it’s so literary and perfect, and I would love to meet a little [name]Oscar[/name] one day. It’s always been a personal favorite of mine.
I probably wouldn’t use a nn for [name]Oscar[/name]… it just seems short enough on its own to me. What about Carr? I’ve never been crazy about [name]Ozzie[/name], but I always thought Carr would be kind of cool as a nn for it…
I don’t think [name]Oscar[/name] is getting popular. I’ve never met one in my whole life. I think it’s a nice enough name, but I wouldn’t try to shorten it. It’s short enough on its own and not everything needs a nickname. If you really wanted one though, you could call him [name]Oz[/name] or Scar. Those are the only other ones I can think of.
[name]Oscar[/name] is a lovely name. I think it warrants good character and a fun personality.
I’ve known two that really stuck out to me with their sense of humor.
I like [name]Oscar[/name] too-- and think it fits well with your criteria.
[name]Oscar[/name] is cute, and I’ve only only ever met 2 in the UK but it is very popular and almost on the trendy side in the UK as its one of the fastest rising boys names.
It’s ok. NMS but it’s a good name. Here are some other names you might like either associated with warriors or with a meaning such as strong or brave:
[name]Brian[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Harold[/name]
[name]Jonathon[/name]
[name]Odin[/name]
[name]Oswald[/name]
[name]Paul[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Travis[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Archibald[/name]
[name]Gerard[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Chad[/name]
^ thanks. I love [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Odin[/name] (though, SO has already vetoed [name]Odin[/name] and my grandmother has a dog named [name]Sebastian[/name] :()
FYI here in the US [name]Oscar[/name] is used most heavily by the Spanish-speaking population, so that’s what I’d think of, although probably not if I knew he was Australian. I think it’s a nice name.
There is the variant related name [name]Roscoe[/name], which has a lot of the same sounds but wouldn’t lead to [name]Ozzie[/name], and would lead to the handsome (to me) [name]Ross[/name]. Personally I like [name]Roscoe[/name] a little more, but here in the US that’s rendered non-useable to some people because of this old TV show the Dukes of [name]Hazard[/name], although I don’t think that one made it to the broader Anglosphere (?).
Good luck!
