Opinions?

I’ve recently fallen in love with the name [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] ([name_m]Ben[/name_m]-ja-MEE-nah), and noticed that on the name’s page, it said it was a feminization of a boy’s name that never caught on, and it made me curious. [name_m]Just[/name_m] what do other people think of this name?

I’m not sure on it, though I think it could grow on me. It does have a cool sound to it and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is a cute nickname

I kind of like it after seeing it on a Great British Bake Off contestant :stuck_out_tongue:
Not sure I would love having such a direct feminization as my own name.

Not a huge fan. I love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] for a boy and I think due to [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]'s popularity it will be hard to wear as a girl. When I first read it I didn’t even notice the -a which I could see being an issue for her entire life.

I also just instinctively dropped the A ending and read [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], because that’s simply what I am used to.

[name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] is along the lines of [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] for me, I am not a huge fan to be honest, although nn [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is very cute. It’s not that it’s too unusual, in fact the problem may be that it’s too familiar.

I would say, unless you have a [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] you really need to honour, leave this one on the GP list.

I was just checking out this name a gew days ago! I do think it has a nice ring to it, but I was never a fan of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] in the first place, so I don’t know what to say. It’s unique for sure

I was actually bullied mercilessly by a [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] from first through fifth grade, and hate the name [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I don’t know why, but I don’t see [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] as the same name. Maybe because I love big, awkward feminizations like [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] anyways. I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but really don’t like [name_m]Gerald[/name_m]. I think it’s the image that I get in my mind when I see the name, and let it play around on my tongue a bit. Like, [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] to me, is a middle aged greasy mechanic, where [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f] is a classy lady with a tiny dog. I do see the points that some of you are making, if a teacher read [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] on a class role call list, she may miss the A and just call for [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], that might be awkward. Or at a Drs office. Maybe it works better in [name_f]England[/name_f]?

I’ve always thought that [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] was such a nice, soft name so it’s cool to hear someone considering a feminized variant of it. [name_m]Benji[/name_m] would be a really cute nickname for a girl!

Not a big fan, I think there’s good reason it never caught on. It just sounds kind of silly, like there are some masculine names that can be made to sound feminine and work, but this isn’t one of them. It’s a little bit of a mouthful and just sounds like it’s trying to hard to take a boring name and making it interesting.

I know so many Benjamins and I’ve never loved the name. I automatically dropped the a and she will probably go through life constantly correcting people. [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is a cute nn though.
