My husband and I are so similar in so many ways, but when it comes to choosing baby names, we’re complete opposites! [name]Every[/name] name I suggest, he thinks of a reason why we can’t use it… “rhymes with _____”, “sounds like _____”, “they’ll call him ______”… etc, etc.
For girls I love classics like: [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name]
For boys I love: [name]James[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Nolan[/name]
The ONLY names HE likes are…
for girls: [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Haley[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Camryn[/name] and [name]Mya[/name] (none are really “my style”)
for boys: [name]Easton[/name] (which is growing on me and might be a compromise), [name]Chase[/name], [name]Nolan[/name] (which I don’t dislike), [name]Dylan[/name], [name]Braydon[/name] and [name]Hunter[/name].
I’m sure you can see where we’re clashing!
We need your suggestions!!! Please help!
Oh and our last name starts with “P” and ends with the “er” sound
I just had that problem too when we were coming up with boy names. I kept my top two favorites, and set them aside and then came up with an entirely new list with names I thought my husband would love. Then we discussed all of those and chose only the ones we mutually loved to bring to the hospital if we have a boy For a girl I fell in love with a name so entirely that I told him I didn’t want to discuss other options and he respected that. Maybe if you are firmer in some names, but work with him on his favorites as well you’ll be able to reach a new compromise. And if you can’t, put aside the names you have now, and come up with a whole new list and see where it leads you. That’s the best advice I have if you’re stuck!
Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely try making a new list and having him cross out the ones he absolutely hates, then maybe we can narrow it down from whats left!
Any suggestions based on the names we like would be greatly appreciated!
You’re right, [name]Camryn[/name], [name]Mya[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], and [name]Haley[/name] don’t seem to work for the both of you style-wise, but his [name]Hannah[/name] isn’t that bad a match with your [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name]. You could use [name]Hannah[/name] and then nn something cute and more old-fashioned, like [name]Annie[/name], [name]Anne[/name], or [name]Nan[/name].
He seems to like more modern sounding names, while you are more of a traditionalist.
Some other options you and he may both like:
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Annalie[/name]
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Annie[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
Aubyn (usually a French boy name but I like it on girls: Aw-bin)
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Finlay[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Valerie[/name]
I feel for you. My husband has the problem of not liking hardly any girls name. We tend to agree on the boys. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a first list of my fav names. He vetoed them all, so I started in on names I loved but never thought I would use. Once he heard the name we chose, he was in love and would not consider anything else. Keep working on it and find a name you both love.
