Oquirrh Liahona (Surname)?

I would be a bit leery of using a word from a tribal language as a name if you’re not part of that tribe. The reason why stuff like mountains and temples are named relatively random but pretty-sounding tribal words is because ignorant settlers picked them and tacked them onto things, while denying the original speakers of the language their own land and culture. That’s not a legacy I would want to continue when naming my child.

Liahona, on the other hand, is genuinely part of a culture/religion you identify with, and it’s a lovely name if a bit odd. And the meaning you describe is very powerful and beautiful.

I’m LDS and going to school in [name_u]Utah[/name_u] as well, and it’s a definite no-go for me.
