Need some help… Are [name_m]Oran[/name_m] in [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] too close for brothers? I have considered spelling it with the Gaelic spelling [name_m]Odhran[/name_m] but still unsure whether they sound to close to be brothers?
I think they are ok together, just feeling unsure.
I think they could work. I sibs S0ren, R0wan and N0lan and they got by just fine; [name_m]Oran[/name_m] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] sound no more similar to me
I feel like they are very similar and I would personally struggle and trip over their names . While visually changing the spelling to the Gaelic [name_m]Odhran[/name_m] helps , it’s the pronunciation that would be hard for me
That being said … as siblings they are [name_u]Indi[/name_u] vials and won’t necessarily be tied to their sibling forever . Each will have their own friends and families , careers and personalities so if they are names you love I say go for it !
They are way too close in my opinion, sorry! The spelling doesn’t really change that. It’s the kind of situation where people would trip over their names and mix them up, or you’d call out “Oran!” and Ronan might show up instead.
I have nephews with names similar in the same way. A few repeat sounds in different order and it trips me up. Im trying to think of ways to mix up the names. Roran maybe? Onan? Its too close for me but probably is fine if you think its fine
I think they are too close but that is just my opinion. I always feel like when parents name siblings something so similar that they didn’t want to put in the effort to find a compatible name but one that also stands out as unique in its own right. But maybe you have ties to each name for a specific reason and that is your choice to choose.
Not really just both me and my partner want Irish names for our kids and lots of boys names seem to just be too close to Ronan. It’s hard but I’ll find something else, maybe. It’s not that I don’t want to put in an effort just that it’s hard to find names me and my partner both like that doesn’t sound too close to Ronan. We both liked Oran, that’s all it was and I was trying to find out if people felt the same way I did that they were too close. It’s fine honestly, for me my mother used to mix up mine and my sister’s names all the time and they aren’t even similar mine is Zoe and hers is Sarah so on that front I expect to mix up names as no one is perfect. Back to brainstorming then. Thanks for all the feedback seems to have mixed opinions, which is sort of where I sit. Obviously if I find a name we both like that isn’t close to Ronan we will chose that.
@ DinahElsie I love [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names. We have a [name_u]Brogan[/name_u]. [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] is another one of our family names. If you both love [name_m]Oran[/name_m] then I would use it.
Other suggestions :
[name_m]Breccan[/name_m]
[name_u]Declan[/name_u]
[name_u]Niall[/name_u]
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u]
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m]
[name_u]Tiernan[/name_u]
I love [name_u]Niall[/name_u] but I have an uncle called [name_u]Neil[/name_u] and I feel it may get a bit confusing. I like [name_u]Declan[/name_u] but I know too many of them [name_u]Tiernan[/name_u] is on my list. I’ll find some good ones.
