orchestra concert, lots of great and not so great names!

I went to a concert for orchestra last night, and as always, I took an extra copy of the concert program to jot down notes about the names. This was a district wide concert, my favorite one of the year. NOTE: I only included names of interest.

Fifth Graders: (these kids were born in 1998-1999)

Several girls named [name]Claire[/name], one of my favorite names.
Also may girls named [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sofia[/name].

[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Ione[/name]
[name]Priscilla[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Tatum[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Maggie[/name]—full name, or short for [name]Margaret[/name]? cute
[name]Kathleen[/name]
[name]Belle[/name]

[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Luisa[/name]

Now for some disasters:

[name]Loralei[/name]—so mispelled.
Ceven—[name]Seven[/name]?
Jadelyn
Jacquelene—worst form of [name]Jacqueline[/name] I’ve seen so far.
Kryssi—awkward
Browyn—this was going in the “great names” section until I read it a second time.
LaZairia—no comment. just, no.
[name]Myranda[/name]
Auroara—what is this!!!
[name]Estee[/name]—strange
Letrice
JoDei—see LaZairia
Kenlynn
[name]Gavrielle[/name]

And, names that are so outdated, why are they still being used 10 years after they were popular?

[name]Madison[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Jenna[/name]
[name]Kaitlyn[/name]
[name]Mackenzie[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Courtney[/name]

[name]Lindsey[/name]
[name]Jessica[/name]

[name]Emilie[/name]
[name]Rheanna[/name]
[name]Kayla[/name]
[name]Paige[/name]
[name]Liberty[/name]

Middle School: (these were born around 1995-1997)

I’ll just do one school for this one, because it’s the most interesting. This school literally has the best and worst of names.

[name]Brooklynne[/name]–oh my.
Not one, but two girls named [name]Sabryna[/name].
[name]Heaven[/name]–I just can’t see this on a real person.
Kaytlyn—enough said.
[name]Khaliah[/name]-ka-kaw! ka-kaw!

And then, the lovely ones:

[name]Winona[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Belinda[/name]
[name]Rebecca[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Gillian[/name]
[name]Clarissa[/name]

High School: (anywhere from 1994-1990)

Again, the best and worst all in one school.

[name]Audrie[/name]—one of my faves is [name]Audrey[/name], so this hurts.
Selenne—looks so awkward, how do you even say this?
Mirissa
Joeisha
[name]Imani[/name]
[name]Analicia[/name]
D’anthony—this is a guy, but I just had to mention what a disaster it was.
[name]Cyriss[/name]
Jordynne—awful

And the good ones:

[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Mariah[/name]—soft spot for this one
[name]Tara[/name]—my name!
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Shirley[/name]
Emerita
[name]Adela[/name]
[name]Nathalie[/name]—another one
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]

I’m in my school orchestra as well! What do you play? I’m a violin. I love that you go through and look at all the names! So cool! I agree with you. Some of these are just such disasters!

I’m a violin too! [name]Do[/name] you have any concert programs with names of everybody in it?

[name]Do[/name] you think that Ceven could be be a creative spelling of the boy’s name [name]Kevin[/name]? But either way, wierd.

Some of the creative spellings are just awful. I prefer to think the person who wrote up the program is a bad at spelling, but that is sadly probably not the case. Thanks for sharing!

I actually have no idea. I assumed Ceven was [name]Seven[/name] even more messed up, but maybe it’s [name]Kevin[/name]. Either way, it’s terrible. And I was wishing that they were bad at spelling too, but I’m pretty sure it’s not what happened. I also saw a [name]Chasity[/name] on the list, but apparently that’s a legit form of [name]Chastity[/name]. Still, why would you even name your daughter an odd form of an already not-so-great name?

I do, but my concerts are just my school. So I already know all the names. Hm…I’m trying to think of any weird ones. We have a [name]Kiersten[/name], but that’s an actual name. I think it’s pretty, just uncommon. Oh! We have a Malibu. So awful!!

I’m a violin too! [name]Do[/name] you have any concert programs with names of everybody in it?[/quote]

I love the name [name]Kirsten[/name], but not that weird spelling. And Malibu is pretty awful, no offense to the person. Does she ever get teased?

I’m not if she gets teased. She’s not barbie-ish at all. I like [name]Kiersten[/name] because it’s pronounced differently than [name]Kirsten[/name]. It’s like [name]Kear[/name]-(rhyming with hear)sten.

[name]Kirsten[/name] Dunst says her name kearsten. Apparently, that’s (one of the) Scandinavian ways to say it.

[name]Estee[/name] - French, and most people have at least heard of it.

It’s weird that many people including myself think of [name]Madison[/name] as a 90s name, when it ranked higher throughout the 2000s.
