I had an epiphany yesterday and started thinking maybe [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] would make a nice nickname for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]. The lack of a great nickname for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] had been an issue, until I settled on [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m], even though it’s a stretch. But now [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is the new top contender. So, do you think it works?
EDIT: New idea: How about Rolo? Do you like that better/worse as a nickname for Orlando? (Oh, just remembered the candy…do you think that’s a problem? Or kind of cool?)
It defiantly works imo! [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] nn [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is genius! Plus it makes much more since to me than [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] does.
I think you could use it but when hearing [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] I don’t initially connect it with [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] because for me [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is more of a name on its own than a nn.
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is ok, not my taste as much as [name_m]Landon[/name_m].
I normally end up shortening [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] to [name_m]Landon[/name_m], or would suggest [name_m]Lance[/name_m], [name_m]Lando[/name_m], or Owan.
I love the name [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]!!
I had [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m] on my list as a nn for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] too! And then I realized I could use it for Joscelin
I think [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] “[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]” works fantastically!
I don’t really feel then need for super obvious and intuitive nicknames I think this is a great option.
[name_f]Polina[/name_f]: thank you!
Averella: thank you so much, and the combos in your signature are darling!
LittleBillie: I see what you mean, that’s a good point. I realize it wouldn’t be the kind of nickname that people ask “oh, what is it short for?” But that’s okay.
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]: ooh, [name_m]Lance[/name_m] is really cool. I don’t mind [name_m]Landon[/name_m], but it’s not my favorite. But glad to see another [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] lover!
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]: thanks so much! I think you were the one who suggested [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m], in another thread of mine. I, too, am a fan of unexpected/non intuitive nicknames. They are so much fun to me.
I definitely think [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] is better than [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m] but I think I’d probably take it one step further and go with [name_m]Orlo[/name_m].
It’s similar enough to [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], at least to me, to have the same salt of the earth vibe I like but is also more literal from Orlando.
I think most people would hear [name_m]Orlo[/name_m] rather than [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and assume that was the nn, but it is very cute either way. I have an uncle name [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] and he goes by [name_m]Lando[/name_m] usually, but a variety of people also call him [name_m]Orlo[/name_m], [name_f]Orly[/name_f], [name_u]Lanny[/name_u], [name_u]Lou[/name_u], and [name_u]Olly[/name_u]. The nice thing about [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] is that there are so many nn possibilities, it can really grow with him as he ages and becomes a person of his own.
I personally don’t think [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] works for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]. I think its a stretch. I would almost say using [name_m]Lando[/name_m] is more effective but that is just my personal opinion.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]! It would be a very handsome first name too, but definitely works for a nn for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]! Very cute
I like [name_m]Orlo[/name_m] better than [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]. [name_m]Lando[/name_m] is more natural than either, though. [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m] is just contrived. However, you’ve got a name you love - [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]. Why not just call him [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]?
[name_u]Lexie[/name_u]: [name_m]Orlo[/name_m] is nice but doesn’t roll of the tongue as easily to me. Thanks for the suggestion!
[name_f]Jesslyn[/name_f]: Hm, you guys are really warming me up to [name_m]Orlo[/name_m]. That’s really neat that it’s your uncle’s name! I do like [name_f]Orli[/name_f] as well. And I agree, [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] does age well.
[name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]: I appreciate your feedback. I guess I’ve always been rather flexible in my taste in nicknames. I don’t like [name_m]Lando[/name_m] as much, but thanks for the help!
Rahaley and little wing: thank you both! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like it! ([name_m]Little[/name_m] wing, your username is adorable too)
Tigerjag: I see your point, I do, but I just really love using nicknames for longer names. I know [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m] didn’t make much sense, but it would have been more like a pet name you know? Thanks for the help!
[name_m]New[/name_m] idea: [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Rolo[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like that better/worse as a nickname for [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]? (Oh, just remembered the candy…do you think that’s a problem? Or kind of cool?)
I prefer [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] to [name_m]Rolo[/name_m], but [name_m]Rolo[/name_m] would work. [name_m]Rolo[/name_m] is more obviously a nn, so if you would want people to ask what his full name is you’d probably get that more with [name_m]Rolo[/name_m]. [name_m]Rolo[/name_m] though could be a rather unfortunate nn if he were at all on the chubby side, yet sadly all I can picture in my mind when I think of [name_m]Rolo[/name_m] is a chubby boy with glasses. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] could be any type of boy, the jock or the book worm. He doesn’t fit any stereotype in my mind, he’s just a happy, confidant, little boy.
btw, thanks for what you said about my combos! I’m still working on finding the perfect one for each first name:)
