Orleanna

[name]Just[/name] started reading a book and one of the characters is named [name]Orleanna[/name]. I didn’t think I liked it at first because I really dislike O names but this one is growing on me. I like the [name]Anna[/name] part at the end. [name]How[/name] would you pronounce it?

Are you reading The Poisonwood Bible? I’d pronounce it or-[name]LEE[/name]-anna

Hmm… well I say New Orleans as either ‘or-leens’ or ‘or-lins’ so I would probably take that route with [name]Orleanna[/name]: ‘or-leena’ or ‘or-linna’. Is it real or made up?

I am reading The Poisonwood Bible. I don’t know if it’s made up but I am starting to like it. Is it too tied to New Orleans? [name]Do[/name] you think it’s usable [name]IRL[/name]?

I say or-[name]LEE[/name]-anna. [name]Orleanna[/name] is not my style.

I kind of like [name]Orleanna[/name], I love that you could get [name]Orla[/name] as a nickname ^^
I would pronounce it or-lee-[name]ANNA[/name], but that’s probably not how it’s supposed to be pronounced.

[name]Oleanna[/name] is my favourite girl name of all time, so I really like [name]Orleanna[/name] as well even though it could never compare for me. O names are wonderful, [name]Oleanna[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Odette[/name], Ovidia, [name]Ondine[/name], [name]Olivine[/name], [name]Ottavia[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Oceana[/name], Oenone, [name]Olwen[/name], [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Oriana[/name], Orseis, Ostara, [name]Ottilia[/name], Ourisia, [name]Olive[/name]… So many pretty ones, and that’s not including the ones with strong O sounds like [name]Cora[/name], [name]Anona[/name], [name]Doveva[/name] and [name]Rosamund[/name].

You can definitely use it. I think it’s made up, but it’s pretty and it’s from a book and then I think it’s ok.

[name]Orleanna[/name] is okay, it’s a nice longer alternative for [name]Orla[/name], and I definitely think it’d be usable, depending on what book. If it was something along the HP/Twilight/Hunger Games type books, then probably not. But something like [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] or L.M. [name]Montgomery[/name]? Or even [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]? Definitely usable. [name]Even[/name] something in the middle ground. If that makes sense, haha. I think names from lots of books are very usable. This coming from a book junkie, though, haha.

I have to say I’m not really a fan though, sorry. I remember watching the play [name]Oleanna[/name] (by [name]David[/name] Mamet) in college–granted, not the same name, but oh-so-similar–and I just hated it. I guess it’s not really a bad play, but the story just didn’t appeal to me, and I like having a character I actually like, lol. If you’ve seen the play, you’d know what I’m talking about, haha.

Good luck!

The Poisonwood Bible was nominated for the Pulitzer in 1999, it’s really good.

ashthedreamer-- i’m only 10 pages in, so I don’t know if she’s a likeable character just yet… lol

I like it, don’t know if I [name]LOVE[/name] it… I just thought it was different and pretty and since my family is sick of hearing me talk about names, I figured maybe other Berries would appreciate it! Thanks everyone!

lol. Well… in the play [name]Oleanna[/name]–I don’t remember all of it, or even really most of it… but I think the gist of it was that there was this professor and his student (who wasn’t really doing well in his class at all), and she went to complain about her grade and he tried to help her–and the WHOLE thing was them arguing back and forth, and her accusing him of making sexual advances on her, and him trying to defend himself, and how she reported him to the school authorities and he got in trouble and it ruined his family or something (maybe not that last part, I can’t really remember). Anywho. They were just argue-argue-argue and yell-yell-yell and “oh woe is me” and ugh. I thought my ears were bleeding by the end of the play! Honestly, I’m sure there was a better play my professor could have picked for us to watch, lol. It was just awful. Neither one of them was likeable, you didn’t want to route for either character, you just wanted it over with! As long as your [name]Orleanna[/name] character is better than the [name]Oleanna[/name] play, I’m sure you’re fine.
