I was surprised not to find this name on nameberry. What are your thoughts on Ornella, an Italian name meaning “flowering ash tree”.
It brings to mind the name “ornate”… I see its appeal, but I’m not sure how I feel about it. I think I like [name]Cornelia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], and [name]Arabella[/name] better, and Ornella reminded me of all of these. I adore the nn [name]Ella[/name], though, so that redeems it a bit for me. I’m guessing you’re not really a fan of [name]Ella[/name], though, as most of your choices are a bit more obscure…
I like some of your other choices better, particularly [name]Minerva[/name], [name]Sabina[/name], and [name]India[/name]…
Good luck!
[name]Ella[/name] is lovely, but I am not a huge fan of using diminutives as stand alone names. I love many names that could be shortened to [name]Ella[/name] though. I cringed when I saw the little boy on Toddlers and Tiaras named [name]Bob[/name]. Seriously, his name was just [name]Bob[/name].
I also get the same feel that it falls into the [name]Cornelia[/name]/[name]Ophelia[/name]/[name]Arabella[/name] spectrum.
Never heard it before. My first reaction is neutral to mildly positive. I don’t love it, but it could grow on me and I don’t find anything to dislike about it. I’d be personally excited about [name]Nell[/name] and [name]Nella[/name] nn’s, [name]Orla[/name] too. Understand if that’s not how you’d go, but, I think they’re in there.
