Orpheia / Orfeia

Inspired by the [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] [name_m]Harris[/name_m] book Orfeia (and therefore Orpheus). What do we think?

How is it pronounced? or-fee-uh or or-fay-uh? I like the second better but Iā€™m guessing its the first because thatā€™s closest to [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m]. Either way, I think its quite pretty. I think Iā€™m leaning towards the ph spelling but I like both.

It is intriguing; it has a cool meaning and mystical vibe.

I think Orpheia / Orfeia is soft, lilting, and magical. Definitely gives big Fairytale [name_f]Princess[/name_f] vibes, and itā€™s similarities to [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] makes it a little more accessible to use imo. I think the meaning is beautiful and haunting, and it is definitely a name I will be adding to my own list now!

the sound is really witchy and enchanting, i like it! orphƩe is another feminization of orpheus with actual use that i find really pretty

in terms of spelling, orfeia makes more sense to me? if weā€™re trying to legitimize the name and approach it like an actual feminization, and not just a name inspired by orpheus, then since it uses an ā€œeiā€ spelling for the ā€œeeā€ sound , then with the way greek is transcribed into latin, itā€™d either be orfeia or orphia, not orfia or orpheia

but itā€™s fine if you do just want to treat it as a fantasy name only inspired by orpheus, i just thought iā€™d mention it

I really like it! However it does remind me of the word orphanā€¦ and of the word Morphine.
But it could work! I do see this magical vibe as well, and the sound is pretty. [name_f]My[/name_f] problems with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are 1. The -phelia ending reminds me the -philia ending a lotā€¦ 2. The character we all know by that name, wellā€¦ famously died. So in that sense I perhaps even prefer Orpheia.

I would say or-fay-a

Itā€™s at the more feminine / frilly end of what Iā€™d consider but I really like the fairytale vibes too

Well the title of the book is Orfeiaā€¦ I think I just prefer the look of Orpheia (love me a ph).

Ooh, I really like this! Like a more unknown alternative to [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] while still keeping the sweet, whispery sound that I love. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was to pronounce it Or-fee-a, but Or-fay-a is nice too, and a quick fix if someone gets it wrong.
I feel the same way about the spelling as I do Ophelia/Ofelia. Orpheia seems more watery, mystical, musical, and literary, with pale, soft colours like pink, green, and blue, while Orfeia is glamorous with a European vibe. Think operas and red velvet and mahogany.
I personally prefer the look of Orpheia but both are lovely.

Iā€™d say or-fay-a, I like that it has the fae sound in there. But or-fee-a works too and would be closer to [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m]

I remember being mildly obsessed with Orpheia a while ago. I still really like it. With the Or-FAY-uh pronunciation itā€™s beautiful, almost magical imo.

I agree  I love the meaning ā€˜the darkness of the nightā€™ and the music and poetry association.
