Oscar, How popular actually is it?

I’ve never actually met an [name]Oscar[/name], or known of anyone naming their kids [name]Oscar[/name]… yet it appears on many Top 100 name lists. So my question is, how many [name]Oscar[/name]'s do you know of and is it really that popular? (Other than in Scandinavian countries!) x

I was born and raised in the US (until my early 30’s) and have been living in [name]Ireland[/name] for the past 4. I’ve never met or heard of an [name]Oscar[/name] anywhere in real life. LOTS of friends having babies, both places, in the last 5/10 years. The only time I’ve ever come in contact with it is tv/movies/books/etc…

Living in the US, I know two Oscars.

[name]One[/name] is a close family friend. He’s 11.
[name]One[/name] is one of my best friend’s older brothers. He’s 17.

So no younger ones. But that has more to do with my age than the amount of babies named [name]Oscar[/name]

I love [name]Oscar[/name]! I only know of one [name]Oskar[/name] (this spelling)–he would be a distant nephew of a member of my church, I guess. Once they had us over for dinner and were showing us pictures. I never met him in real life, though.

I’ve heard of a few Berries who have sons named [name]Oscar[/name], but it’s only been 2 or 3, that I remember. I was shocked the one time I saw it on the US top 100–I thought it was much farther down on the list.

I taught an [name]Oscar[/name] once. He’s the only one I’ve heard of.

I do think it is popular at all. I do not know of any.

According to American Social Security Online in 2011 [name]Oscar[/name] ranked at #162 over the past 100 years it hasn’t once dropped below #300. While I haven’t meet one lately, there have to be at least a few people out there naming their children [name]Oscar[/name].

According to www.mindfulmum.co.uk in 2011 [name]Oscar[/name] ranked #17 in [name]England[/name] and [name]Wales[/name] and and #68 in [name]Scotland[/name].

[name]Hope[/name] that helps.

Thanks ladies. I know there must be some [name]Oscar[/name]'s out there somewhere!
That link is great Lexiem, thank you!
Hoping the name steadily makes it way down the ranks when the time arrives for baby number two! x
