What do you think about our boy combo?
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u].
I think [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] feels balanced and fits in with sisters Azula & [name_f]Indira[/name_f].
My husband is dead set on using [name_u]James[/name_u] too now (a multi-generational honour name on his family) and this was the best combo I could come up with to flow with/spice up ol’ [name_u]James[/name_u] and give me my Nature middle. Extra points for the mn mythology connection - especially the ‘fleet foot’ meaning since this little one is a real mover, to the point where I thought there were two in there because one baby couldn’t POSSIBLY kick that much.
Second choice boy combo for now is Rohan Evander Fox. I love Evander Fox but not Rohan entirely. I mean I love the LOTR nod but I am hesitant about Rohan with our last name (and because it is related to Azula’s name and is another Indian name while we already have lil Indira) however DH loves it so for now it stays. Evander makes us geek out (Corey wanted to use Ender as in Ender’s Game as a FN and this is our compromise) and is also an honour name for my dad.
Our girl choice is Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f] (possibly with a second middle, we have not decided yet).
Sorry for falling off the face of the earth & leaving my previous threads in limbo, got locked out of NB for a bit, technical difficulties
I like what [name_u]James[/name_u] adds to the combo it really grounds it, without it it would have been hard to get such cool and unusual other names in
Yes I agree, [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] works best with your daughters’ gorgeous names. And I think the classic strength of [name_u]James[/name_u] does help balance out such an unusual and imaginative combo. I like it.
When you mentioned wanting a nature name and the “fleet of foot” reference, I thought of the name [name_m]Hart[/name_m]. I’ve always liked this for a boy, with the beautiful, wild image of a stag/deer running up a mountainside. [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] <3
Thanks guys!
Yeah never been a huge fan of [name_u]James[/name_u], not to mention our close friends just used it for their son a year ago so if it were up to me it’d be off the list, at least for a couple years. But DH is very attached to the name and feels very strongly about it. A bit of a curveball for me because we had two other family names I thought he liked more. But I think it works as a combo?
Two gods in one name toes the line between pompous and trying too hard. I definitely prefer [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Or even [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]? [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]?
Thanks for the constructive feedback.
Like I said, DH is adamant about using [name_u]James[/name_u] (an honour name) for our first boy. He does not want to use a variant or a “sounds like” name. I would like to continue using a nature name in the middle as well which is why we are planning on using two middles. [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] felt like a good pick to me because it is elemental to satisfy my nature craving, because my husband liked it (he even put it on an ‘acceptable first names’ list), and because it feels very applicable to this pregnancy. But it’s great to know that in your opinion we are trying too hard and that the combo sounds pompous.
Oh yes, by the way, [name_m]Evander[/name_m] is on our list for a future child to honour my dad ([name_m]John[/name_m], via [name_u]Evan[/name_u]), and as a tribute to my husband’s favourite book series (Ender’s Game). My husband was, during our first two pregnancies, determined to use Ender as a stand-alone FN were we to have had boys - I think it sounds a little incomplete as a legal name so my compromise is [name_m]Evander[/name_m]… which ticks more boxes being relative to [name_m]John[/name_m] anyway. I think its a great name but it happens by coincidence to also be the name of a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] Demigod so I’m not sure with that knowledge whether it would be less ‘pompous’ sounding to you than [name_u]Mercury[/name_u]. I would like to save [name_m]Evander[/name_m] as an honour name for another child (if we are to have one), because DH has decided he wants to go with [name_u]James[/name_u] for this one, so I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggections that would include the middle name [name_u]James[/name_u] as well as a nature name?
I absolutely adore it. I love the “O” name with [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think it flows well and I agree, it sounds great with his sibling’s names.
I also think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f] is adorable.
To be honest I usually don’t like having two god/mythological names in the same combo, but that’s only if you were going to use, for example, [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] [name_m]Zeus[/name_m]. [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] doesn’t have really familiar god names (if that makes sense) so I think it’s fine in that regard. I actually really love [name_m]Osiris[/name_m], I’ve never heard of it before but I think it would be great with Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f]. [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] is also a pretty cool middle, and it can represent the god, planet, colour and element (very versatile). [name_u]James[/name_u] is a nice name to have so if the child ever wants a more common name, he can go by his middle name. Overall, I think I love it
If you were worried about two God names for your child what about [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]? [name_m]Rivers[/name_m] are always moving so that could be a good connection to his constant movement! If the two god names don’t concern you I think [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds lovely together!
It is a little bit too much to me ([name_m]Osiris[/name_m] and [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] have strong references/connotations), but the names flow perfectly together and [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] is very nice with your daughter’s names!
Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f] is very pretty.
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is very handsome and sounds great with your girls names. I also think [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds very handsome, but I’m not sure how you feel about having so many honor names in one combo. Either way you can’t go wrong. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
@dreamingoffireflies I agree! I wouldn’t use Hera Athena together but I MIGHT consider using use Venus Cerridwen or Diana Inara or something. Depends on the combo. How strong the association between names/gods are… whether with Mercury or Venus for example you get to have several different associations (you put it perfectly, they are just so versatile) whereas with Athena ya know there’s pretty much just the one, as well as how well known they are to non-nerds (major vs minor deities). Thanks for the input!
@nadiajay I am simply not a huge fan of the name River but that was a great suggestion! Thanks!
Thanks @mccharlie yeah I know it seems to be a bit intense to some people but I am hoping that the flow & meaning & cohesion with sibling names would make up for that. Guess I’m not really sure now! Haha. Augh.
@princessshannon thank you, yeah I like Evander Mercury James too but I don’t LOVE Evander nn Ender next to Indira. I would like to have a “buffer sibling” between at least to break up that similarity or just put Evander in a MN spot. Corey is adamant about using an HN for all our kids if we can, so I would rather save it for a future child if we are to have more (since he wants to usee James now for this one). Also Evander is another mythological figure (not as recognizable as Osiris, bit I think nerds would see it) and actually it is much closer tied with Mercury, mythology wise, than Osiris is so I’m a little hesitant about that too. My first choice for this kid was either Osiris Evander Fox, or Osiris Erickson Fox, but his wanting to use James kinda threw a wrench in that. Husbands, amirite?
