Oslo?

Hello berries,

What do you guys think of the city name [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] for a boy? We already have a [name_m]Milo[/name_m], so certainly not considering it for a first name for our family, but lately I can’t seem to get it out of my head! Maybe one day as a middle? I (clearly) love the trendy -lo ending; its unusual but familiar because of the city; and my family is Norwegian, but a few generations removed so it would be more like a nod rather than actually honoring the city.

Thanks!
[name_m]David[/name_m]

I like it.
I was aware of the fact that it was a place name before reading your post, but I really like it as a name.

I like it as a name- I don’t normally like place names but I think [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] works, but I agree with you that it might be a little close to [name_m]Milo[/name_m].

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Oslo[/name_m]. It’s been on my list for a while. I think it is also similar enough to [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] and wouldn’t sound to out of place in today’s world. I like that is distinctive from other city names as well

I really like it. It’s unique, but not too out there.

I’m not a fan of it. It sounds surname-y to me. Can I suggest [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]? I think it would go lovely with [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f].

I’m not a fan of most place names, especially this one.

Sounds very handsome; reminds me of [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] or [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]

I would not personally have the guts to use it as a first name, but as a middle name, it’s great, especially since the Norwegian connection means something for you and your family ! So I’d say go ahead and use it as a middle if you have another kid !!!

Speaking as someone who lives in Scandinavia and has strong ties to Norway, there’s no way I would ever consider this usable. I generally think that place names are extraordinarily tacky and [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] just doesn’t translate well into a given name. What about [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m], Aslan, [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]/[name_m]Oscar[/name_m], Gösta, [name_m]Ossian[/name_m], [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]…?

I have loved [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] for a while now. It’s defiantly my favourite place name for a boy however I would only ever use it as a middle name.

What a great middle name! I also like [name_m]Berlin[/name_m] as a place middle name.

I agree with @shvibziks. If actual Norwegians do not use [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] as a person’s name then I would not recommend it. It could come off as ignorant or even appropriating.

I don’t like it. The city is a good association, but it just doesn’t seem name-like to me. Maybe Lazslo, [name_m]Otto[/name_m], or [name_m]Orso[/name_m] if you like the sound? If you’re looking to honor your Norwegian heritage, there are lots of great Norwegian names you could use.

What about [name_f]Ola[/name_f] or [name_m]Ole[/name_m]?

I also really like names with the -lo ending, but if you already have a [name_m]Milo[/name_m] (fantastic name!), I would probably stay away from another one.

I immediately thought of the 2011 attacks in [name_m]Oslo[/name_m]. I think a Norwegian name instead of city would work better.

I love the sound of it. My first thought, which I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned, was [name_u]Winslow[/name_u].

but am a bit unsure of [name_m]Oslo[/name_m]. It IS a neat word.

I like [name_f]Odessa[/name_f]. Have to ponder [name_m]Oslo[/name_m]. Great cat name!
