Oswin- Guilty Pleasure

One of my guilty pleasure names is [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] for a girl, I think it’s because of [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who and ‘[name_m]Oswald[/name_m] for the win- [name_m]Oswin[/name_m]’ that holds me back from looking at the name as usable.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would work as a girls name and I should consider the name more seriously?
Does the possible nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] help?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is more masculine and acceptable on a boy?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is too tied to [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] who and that the parents would be seen as [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who fans?

I think [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] is a totally boys name. I like nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but even with that, [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] sounds very masculine to me.

[name_m]Oswin[/name_m] is all male to me, and I must add too, that even on a boy I’m not much fond of it. I’d much rather see a girl with the full name of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] than [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”. Also, I have no knowledge of [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, so can’t comment on that side of things I’m afraid.

Thanks for your replies it is good to know other people’s opinions. Maybe it will be better in the middle spot

I’d definitely say middle, but because of [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, I actually find it easier to imagine on a girl than a boy. And I quite like it, but I am a Wholock.

[name_m]Oswin[/name_m] is very masculine and I can only see it for a boy. I had a student named Roswyn (except it was spelled “creatively”) and that name basically sounds the same, but is a bit more feminine. Or I do like just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] by itself.

The fact that it was on [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who is the only real reason I find [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] bearable. But even so, I think it’s quite an unattractive name, especially for a girl, sorry.

I think [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] is actually a really nice name but do prefer it on a boy. It would work in the middle spot but for me that would make the ‘[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Oswin[/name_m] [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]’ connection (to the full name which she had in one episode) even stronger.

@sweetpeacelove I really like the suggestion of Roswyn- it’s something I’ll think about. Thanks again for your opinions- you are awesome!!

I can’t explain how much I wish Moffat hadn’t done this. x_x [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is an extremely one dimensional lump of a character, so if I heard someone had named their daughter ‘[name_m]Oswin[/name_m]’ I wouldn’t just think ‘Oh, they must like [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who’, I’d think ‘Oh dear, they must like current [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who :/’

I’d definitely steer clear of this one. For me, it will always be tied to the era when DW was at it’s worst.*

*I still have hope for the future but we’ll see…
