Othello & Othniel

I feel like these names are underrated. [name_m]Othello[/name_m] you could call Thello or [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. And [name_m]Othniel[/name_m] you could call ottie or ollie. Idk I think they are really cute! What do you guys think?

I know an [name_m]Othniel[/name_m] and I think the name is pretty cool :sunglasses:

[name_m]Othello[/name_m], I personally don’t love as much, but that’s just me. It’s just okay, in my opinion. And keep in mind the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] play, if you will mind that connection.

I like [name_m]Othniel[/name_m]! It’s definitely got potential, with the growing popularity of quirky Biblical names and the -iel ending especially.

[name_m]Othello[/name_m] I associate too strongly with the play, unfortunately, although it does have a cool sound.

I met an [name_m]Othniel[/name_m] a couple years ago, and it has always stuck with me as a great name!

I’m with @katinka on [name_m]Othello[/name_m], though. It’s too tied to the play for me, even if I do like the sound of it.

I like [name_m]Othniel[/name_m]! Stunning

[name_m]Othello[/name_m] is too associated with [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], and given the jealousy and domestic violence connotations that’s not a great vibe for me. Total shame because the name would have potential.

I love the look and sound of both names. As others have said, [name_m]Othello[/name_m] is one I would have hesitations about using, due to the character being goaded into murdering his wife over false accusations of adultery.

Both are such cool names!! I just recently discovered Athella, which is of course a feminization of [name_m]Othello[/name_m], and it’s made me appreciate [name_m]Othello[/name_m] so much more. :relaxed: And, I just heard [name_m]Othniel[/name_m] for the first time probably only a week or so ago, but it immediately struck me as a possibility for a new name on the rise. I can absolutely see it becoming a new favorite of many!

I’ve not come across [name_m]Othniel[/name_m] before - I really like it! It feels familiar and quirky at the same time.

[name_m]Othello[/name_m] is too heavily associated with the play for me as well - it’s a shame because Thello would be such a cute nickname

Only an eccentric aristocrat sort could pull off [name_m]Othello[/name_m] imo. I do like [name_m]Othniel[/name_m]. Feels very Dickensian.
