Other names for family members

I was just curious what other names you use in your family for grandparents, aunts/uncles, or any other titles? My niece calls me Teetee because Auntie was too difficult for her to figure out.

I don’t think my family were particularly interesting, though some of my cousins call my dad 'clian (clee-an) because he’s Uncle [name_m]Ian[/name_m] and when they were little it ran together.

I know a family where one grandmother is Grangie and another who is [name_f]Nonna[/name_f]

My daughter can’t quite say Uncle [name_u]Lou[/name_u]… it sounds like Uh googoo. It’s super cute.

My daughter calls my FIL Opa (Dutch background). She calls my mom [name_f]Nana[/name_f] and my dad Papa – we always said “grandma” and “grandpa” to her but when she started talking that’s what she came out with, so now that’s what we say. One auntie is something like “[name_f]Nona[/name_f]” which is a toddler-ified version of her name. And she calls my brother “Uncle Achoo” ([name_m]Andrew[/name_m]).

We all called my great-grandpa “Bompa” which came about as a mispronunciation on my dad’s part when he was a child.

To my three year old, my mum is [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and my dad is Gramps/Grampy. Her other grandparents are [name_f]Nanna[/name_f] and Boppa, because Poppa didn’t stick. She never calls her aunts and uncles ‘Aunt ___’ or ‘Uncle ___,’ she’s just toddlerised their real names and it’s the cutest, I wonder if she’ll eventually use their full names or if [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] will be Toff forever.

@faycosta: Awe, my dad’s name is [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and my younger cousins couldn’t say “Uncle [name_u]Lou[/name_u]”, so they called him “Gunga Woo.” It stuck and all of the cousins, including the ones in their teens, started calling him that! Your comment made me think of that

As far as other relatives…nothing special. Grandpa/Grandma ‘LastName’ (the [name_f]Nonna[/name_f], Nonno didn’t work out), Uncle/Auntie ‘FirstName’, my great-grandmother was Grandmama, and so on. My parents and their parents are very strict on the titles, so you can’t use just first names or anything. The newest generation calls them all their “proper names”, but my niece calls me “Wissy” or “Wissa” because she couldn’t say “Auntie [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]”.

our are pretty typical for our area. Pawpaw for our grandfathers, then Grandma and Granny. with my mom wanting to be called [name_f]Nana[/name_f] when she has grandkids. My great grandmother was called Ma’amaw though.

We don’t have any interesting names… just grandmother, nanna, uncle, aunt, like everyone else. But the little ones in the family have made us all laugh on occasion with their odd pronunciations.

My niece (when she was three) called my brother in law [name_m]Saxon[/name_m], “huckle sacking”, and my hubby ([name_m]Adrian[/name_m]) was “huckle hadrin” - pretty adorable!

Awww so cute! <3

My goddaughter calls me [name_f]Nissy[/name_f] because [name_u]Lindsey[/name_u] was too hard for her.

I call my favourite aunt Ninny. Her name is [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] which was shorted to [name_f]Ginnie[/name_f] which apparently as a little kid I getting wrong. That’s how Ninny was born.

When I was little I called my grandma, gammie and I called my great grandma, grandma in the blue dress because she always wore dresses and they were mostly blue. I ended up getting everyone in the family to say grandma in the blue dress too. :D.
When my sister was little she called my grandma, jamma.
For our son, we use Abuela/Abuelo for my inlaws. Grandma for my mom and Opa for my dad.

My paternal grandparents were always Babci and Gramps. My Babci’s mom was Polish so she used the Polish word for grandma. On my mom’s side, they were [name_f]Nana[/name_f] and Grandpa until my younger sister came along and called them [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and B’pa. We’ve grown out of [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and back to [name_f]Nana[/name_f] but B’pa stayed. He loves it because my mom and her sister called his dad G’pa, so he loves the similarity. It was hard for us to do anything like “[name_f]Nana[/name_f] First Name” because both of my sets of grandparents are named [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_m]Jim[/name_m] (no joke). We don’t have any cute names for our aunts and uncles.

My nephew calls my brother-in-law’s sisters Auntie Dill and Auntie [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] because that’s what they’ve been called in the family growing up (my brother-in-law has a nickname too, which his family call him).

Me and my sisters also differentiate between both sets of grandparents, with one being [name_f]Nan[/name_f] and Grandad [name_m]Barney[/name_m] because my older sister used to watch [name_m]Barney[/name_m] at their house when she was a toddler and it just stuck. My other grandparents aren’t around anymore and haven’t been for some time, and the pet name we called them has completely drawn a blank. They were all [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] and Grandad, then [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] changed to [name_f]Nan[/name_f] as we grew up. The norm grandparent names here.

I call my younger sister Kizz or [name_f]Kyr[/name_f] (like k-ear) which are just shortened versions of her name, and my older sister gets [name_u]Jay[/name_u] a lot, which is half of her name.
