Other ways to get to "Maggie"?

I absolutely love the nickname [name]Maggie[/name] for a girl…but I’m kind of iffy about [name]Margaret[/name] (which is actually my middle name). What are some other cool and “fresher” ways to get to the nickname [name]Maggie[/name]?

[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Magali[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Magdalene[/name]

[name]Magda[/name]/[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name] (also love [name]Mari[/name], [name]Ari[/name], and [name]Goldie[/name] for this!)
[name]Magnolia[/name]
Megara (I figure if [name]Margaret[/name] can get [name]Meg[/name], then Megara can get [name]Maggie[/name]!)
[name]Agatha[/name]/[name]Agnes[/name] (likewise, if [name]Edward[/name] can get [name]Teddy[/name] and [name]Ned[/name], then [name]Agnes[/name] or [name]Agatha[/name] can get [name]Maggie[/name]!)
[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margaux[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name]

And if you really like the masculine/surname thing on girls, [name]Maguire[/name]. I wouldn’t suggest it otherwise, but technically, [name]Maggie[/name] does work. And I know some people really like the whole masculine surname with the feminine cute nn thing.

I’m a big fan of [name]Magnolia[/name] to use as a nn for [name]Maggie[/name]! Too cute!!

[name]Marigold[/name]! I [name]LOVE[/name] this name (see my signature), and if I was ever lucky enough to have a [name]Marigold[/name] her nn would be [name]Maggie[/name].

I love [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] and I [name]LOVE[/name] ashthedreamer’s suggestion of [name]Agatha[/name]/[name]Agnes[/name] to get to [name]Maggie[/name]! It’s an inspired suggestion, which I never would have thought of myself! This is the reason I’m on nameberry  To be honest, I think you can name a baby [name]Maggie[/name] on its own. I know a little [name]Maggie[/name]. I think it’s cute.

I love the thought of [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margaux[/name]. What concerns me is that our Dutch surname is two syllables and ends in -g. If we paired our surname with [name]Margo[/name] - which also has two syllables and contains a “g” sound - would it be too much? Also, which spelling do you ladies prefer?

[name]Margo[/name] D- —g // [name]Margot[/name] D- —g // [name]Margaux[/name] D- —g

[name]Margaux[/name] is best! Only because when pronounced the french way it doesn’t sound as harsh as [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name]. Although between [name]Margo[/name] & [name]Margot[/name] I prefer the spelling [name]Margot[/name].

[name]Margaux[/name] beats [name]Margot[/name] beats [name]Margo[/name] for me.

I have known Maggies that were Megans. I know its not stylish but I actually really like [name]Megan[/name].

I also like [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] and [name]Marguerite[/name]. It’s possible one of the longer forms may flatter your last name more. But honestly, if you think [name]Maggie[/name] So-and-so works, [name]Margaux[/name] So-and-so should be just as fine?

I can see it’s already been suggested but I too love [name]Magdalene[/name] for a different way to get to [name]Maggie[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] is also beautiful, but the [name]Margaux[/name] spelling is great as well. I’ve never liked the spelling [name]Margo[/name] for some reason.

[name]Magdalena[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it

[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Margarita[/name]

I know a girl who is just named [name]Maggie[/name]. You could try that, but I’m not sure it would be as cute of a name as she gets older.

Magdalania
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Magdalene[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Magenta[/name]

I came across a [name]Maggie[/name]-[name]Magnolia[/name] on an flight a couple of years ago. (Her sister was [name]Daisy[/name].) Personally I don’t love [name]Magnolia[/name] but it’s certainly a fresher alternative.

love the suggestions of magnolia, marigold & agatha! we are big fans of margot in our house but are actually uneasy about the fact that people could use margaux as the spelling. just to put another opinion in there, margaux can come off very downmarket (even though it’s an actual location and not a made up spelling), so you should do what you love but it’s at least something to consider when you’re choosing a spelling.

I like [name]Margo[/name]>[name]Margot[/name]>[name]Margaux[/name].
I may be biased though- my niece is named [name]Margo[/name].

[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Magdalen[/name]/[name]Magdalene[/name]
[name]Magda[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]/[name]Meghan[/name]/[name]Meagan[/name]

I would just do [name]Maggie[/name]. My favorite name is [name]Katie[/name] so my daughter will be that. No reason to give a longer name when the shorter one is the one you like.
