Our baby has arrived, and our top picks don't suit her

What would you name her? She looks round faced and friendly, quiet and strong.

Ombeline was my wildcard name, it’s the most fitting. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Brunhilda[/name_f] - cool but a bit macho paired with last name Scholze.

She has such a round wide face, like a waldorf doll or an [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] Beskow or [name_f]Sibylle[/name_f] von Olfers illustration. [name_m]Light[/name_m] brown or dark blonde hair, eyebrows so blonde you can’t see them. [name_u]Blue[/name_u] eyes like her dad, may well keep them. She’s got long feet so she’ll be tall and lithe like her dad, pretty rosebud lips like a doll. Tranquil energy, very easy to please.

ps. Having a baby is AWESOME isn’t? She smells so good too. Our first baby arrived yesterday morning in a birthing pool at home. I feel like a warrior for having managed a natural birth. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you name your babies? I look at her and think that she defies labels, and names. it would be so futile to use human sounds to describe her. There is no perfect name, if there was it would be a song. But we can’t refer to her as the baby for lover then a month, birth certificates and such….

Congratulations…she sounds beautiful. I’ll try to give you some unique names.

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]

[name_f]Tova[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]
[name_f]Augustina[/name_f]

What about the names in your signature, are they options? Because, if they are, they are both beautiful.

What about: Matilda (Or just Tilda), Genevieve, Wallis, Clemence, Violet, Avis?

Hope you find something soon, and congratulations on her safe arrival!

Aw, congratulations! Your message makes me want to have a baby already!

I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] would fit her and Ombeline is very cool, too. I like the suggestions of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Clemence[/name_f]. What about

[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]

Everything about your baby and her birth sounds beautiful!

I quite like Ombeline. I also like:
[name_f]Domitille[/name_f] (a few of my great, etc grandmothers were named Domithilde but IDK if that variation is in use anymore)
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (the serene nature and lithesome feet…)
[name_f]Aloisia[/name_f]

[name_f]Leonore[/name_f]/ [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
Lucine / lucina
[name_f]Apolline[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]

If your sig names are up for consideration, she sounds like she could be a [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].

Congratulations! She sounds like a [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] to me, if that’s an option.

Congratulations. Those are as close as I could get to song.

She sounds, and she obviously is, gorgeous. Congratulations.

She sounds like a(n):

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josefina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Joy[/name_f] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u] or [name_u]Joyce[/name_u]
or something very simple, because a longer name isn’t needed. Sometimes simple is better.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn peri
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Aura[/name_f]
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] ( nehv )
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]

Congratulations! No babies for me yet, so I can’t help you with anecdotes of my experiences. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents always had a name chosen before the baby arrived, and there never seemed to be a problem with the name “fitting.” Your signature choices are beautiful, but if they’re not working, I suppose you should hunt around a bit before, perhaps, coming back around to the names you’ve loved longest.

I think of my favorite girl name, [name_f]Una[/name_f]/[name_f]Oona[/name_f], as tranquil. It’s simple yet beautiful and historic. Lillemor, a new Swedish crush, also gives me a serene feeling. For something a little more spunky, perhaps [name_u]Dagny[/name_u]? [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]? [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]? (I seem to be crushing on the Scandinavian names lately.) I even found an [name_f]Ingeborg[/name_f] in my family tree today!

Best wishes!

I can’t wait to see my little girl’s face! What about:
[name_f]Arietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Aminta[/name_f] / [name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sula[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] / [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Thais[/name_f] / Thaissa
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]

She sounds like my neice; an independent spirit : ) Here are some names that I think are strong and sweet (and sorry for repeats!):

[name_f]Noemi[/name_f]/[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_u]Inge[/name_u]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f]/[name_f]Noor[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]

I tend to think that Scandinavian and Irish girl’s names are strong sounding, but it may be just me. For my wildcard name: [name_f]Cessair[/name_f] : )

Congratulations! What a lovely post!

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]

Congratulations! What a fantastic entrance to the world, she is already so lucky.

I can completely empathise about having something so beautiful that is impossible to articulate or name.

Our baby girl is 3 weeks old and we have the exact same problem. Nothing I have chosen suits her. The more time that passes, the harder it gets.

Ombeline is lovely, very soft, rounded and feminine yet strong.

[name_m]Trust[/name_m] your instincts and let your bias go, your heart may already know her name, you may just need to say it a few times to get used to it.

Enjoy.

I caught my husband calling her Ombeline. I have to almost catch myself from using it, I don’t want to pick one so soon. That said…She reminds me of the feeling of being by an open door during a rainstorm during a full moon and feeling both invigorated and perfectly at peace. Or of being the only person awake at night, everything is still and your mind is exploding with inspiration.

Ombeline Tendra perhaps, Tender Thunderstorm.
Icelandic; Tendra is used as in; to kindle somebody’s interest in something)

The name I associate with myself is Umbra, once someone said I was like the reflection of the full moon in still water. Because of this it has special meaning to me that Ombeline also means shadow, and rain stone.

Some hippy friends say OM (ohm) is the sound the universe makes. Her father and I began to love each other at a festival called OM, and that’s where I laid in a field of fireflies looking up at the stars and felt like I was swimming in them. I kept my lips sealed as earlier that day a bug had flown into my mouth. It occurred to me that it might look like I was swallowing a star. Maybe it would land in my stomach and feel warm, stars must radiate love, like a life. That was when I thought it might be nice to be pregnant one day. A year later he and I went back, and at the time I didn’t know I was a few weeks pregnant! I told the story to a circle of women and explained this sudden strong hormonal affection towards babies, lol.

List I’ll present to my husband:
*Ombeline Tendre
*Qmbeline [name_f]Elthia[/name_f] ([name_f]Althea[/name_f])
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] [name_f]Alondra[/name_f]

[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]

Honestly, from everything you’ve written, and especially what you wrote about your husband, it seems as though your heart is calling her Ombeline already. Sometimes the name picks you, and it seems rather lovingly fated.
