Our oldest child’s name is [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. We happen to like a number of other o names that are four letters long: [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] in particular appeal to us because there are family connections with [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]. We are not keen on the full names but the nicknames work for us. What do you think of them?
We are aware of the theme we may be creating for future/potential sons. So there is that.
Another name we are also thinking about is [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is another family name that is too long for our taste and last name. Seems different enough from [name_u]Theo[/name_u] but still four letters long.
[name_m]Alec[/name_m] is good with [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] are very similar to [name_u]Theo[/name_u]…
I love [name_m]Alec[/name_m]!! People will try to tell you that it’s too similar to [name_u]Alex[/name_u], but it’s NOT! I have a friend named [name_m]Alec[/name_m] and I have asked him if people ever think his name is [name_u]Alex[/name_u]. He said rarely ever. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] wouldn’t be bad… But [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]? Too much. You could always use one as a middle!
I don’t mind the O theme as long as you continue it. I hate when people have a [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. That kid may feel left out.
I would choose [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. If you do decide to have a third child, you would probably have to continue the theme and miss out on other great names. [name_m]Alec[/name_m] is awesome and sounds wonderful with [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I don’t particularly like themes, so I would avoid the other O names!
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_m]Alec[/name_m] are fine together. However, I’d prefer something like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_m]Miles[/name_m] - maybe using the nickname [name_m]Milo[/name_m]!
I love all of them except [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I would go with [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], or [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. However, my grandchildren are [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] and [name_u]Niko[/name_u] and my parents named their girls [name_f]Pam[/name_f], [name_f]Paula[/name_f], and [name_u]Jackie[/name_u]. Stopping the trend was not a problem for [name_u]Jackie[/name_u]. She named her kids: [name_u]Kiley[/name_u], [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]. She thought about using a “k” name for her son as she expected him to be her last baby. I told her that I didn’t believe that boys typically care or want to be part of a cutesy name set. I think the o ending is fine for two, but would probably start a new trend with baby number three. You could move the o ending to the middle name for babies three and four. By the time you have a third baby, you may prefer a different naming sound anyway.
I love all the O ending names too! In fact I posted about this recently. I have an [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and have [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] all on the list for potential brothers. (Not to mention [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Ianto[/name_m], [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], [name_m]Cato[/name_m], etc etc…)
Both 4 letters, 2 syllables, ending in -o is of course matchy, but I’m a firm believer in choosing the name you love regardless of sibset. Otherwise, [name_m]Alec[/name_m] goes well (even though I like all the other names better). Some other 4 ltr names to go with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] you might like: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_m]Zane[/name_m]…
I agree sooo much with this one. Themes are personally not for me, but on other people’s kids, sure! But please follow it all the way through. I know a family with kids named [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], [name_f]Mallory[/name_f], and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. Worse than that, [name_f]Jayda[/name_f], [name_f]Jaylynn[/name_f], and [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]. I feel kind of bad for the left-out kid. I know his/her name within the context of his/her siblings is not the worse thing to happen to the kid, but ya know, it might be a big deal to the kid for a while.
Anyway, [name_u]Theo[/name_u] sounds fine with any of your 4-letter -O names, but if you go with one of them, you are kind of eliminating [name_m]Alec[/name_m] for any future kids, in a way. He’d be left out. If you go with [name_m]Alec[/name_m] now, and hence eliminate [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], etc. (I really like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_m]Alec[/name_m], btw) then you could keep a theme of four letters with different endings maybe…?
I know brothers [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! Though I believe their full names are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m].
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] is definitely my favorite! I am not a fan of [name_m]Milo[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].
Others you may like…
[name_m]Aldo[/name_m], while I like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], I think I much prefer the similar [name_m]Aldo[/name_m]. There is also [name_m]Orlo[/name_m]
[name_m]Gino[/name_m] (This is one of my favs!)
[name_m]Rico[/name_m]
[name_m]Jago[/name_m]
Veno
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
I do like [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. (I prefer [name_u]Alek[/name_u], though. )
I really like [name_m]Alec[/name_m] with [name_u]Theo[/name_u], they sound good together! You could also do another name ending in -o. It’s a little rhymey, but not really too big of a deal.
I love [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]: super cute!
And if you KNOW you are only having one more, than the “o” ending isn’t such a problem, but if you want 2+more I would go with [name_m]Alec[/name_m] which is adorable with [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. And plus side: good names for both boys and men, thin and lean or built and muscular.
I would say that [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_m]Alec[/name_m] are our stronger contenders on the boy list.
I completely understand what you are saying about the dangers of creating a theme. I think we can manage [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u], but a third boy with the same trend would be silly. But, who knows if there is going to be a third boy -or fourth child? [name_f]May[/name_f] be we will just focus on this baby and let luck decide what happens?
Thank you so much for your opinions and ideas. Now the list is shorter!
Personally, I love pretty well all of the boys names that end in “o” but I wouldn’t give those names to ALL of my sons. Saying them out loud a couple of times was enough to cure me of my “o” madness. It would be too confusing if one house had Theo, Nico, Milo, Hugo and Arlo (not only do they end in “o” but they’re all two-syllables and four letters). You can always put them in the middle spot if you can’t let them go. Alec and Theo would be my preference for siblings.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Alec[/name_m] go really well together!
I’m not super opposed to having two names ending in -o but the thing that I don’t like about the names you listed with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is that they’re all four letters and only two syllables. Something like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] doesn’t sound as bad as [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
