So my husband and I have a list narrowed it down to 4 names we agree upon, 2 boys and 2 girls. We would love to hear what you all think about them, individually and as a sibset.
Thanks for your feedback in the earlier poll. We are happy to narrow it down to [name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] with your help. [name]Hugo[/name] is actually a relative’s name - great way to honor him.
** I know [name]Siena[/name] was not well received in the message boards when I was considering it as a first name. And I know it is a place name. However, the place is precisely why I love the name. Growing up I spent several summers in [name]Siena[/name] and for me this beautiful city has special meaning. If it really sounds that awful, I guess I could get rid of it. So please be honest.
By the way, we are not necessarily thinking of having 4 kids. More like 3. But we figured 2 boy and 2 girl names were a good start and might just cover us if we get a mix of sexes.
[name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: I love [name]Matteo[/name] and [name]Luca[/name], so I think this is really handsome.
[name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]*: I really, really love this! I love both names, and I think it’s wonderful that [name]Hugo[/name] is a family name for you.
Here’s one vote for [name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name]. (And I also love [name]Matteo[/name] [name]James[/name]…) I love your boys’ names!
[name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]**: I love that the name has meaning for you.
You may also like [name]Marielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: I think this is beautiful! I love [name]Vivienne[/name]!
For boys both are nice but I like [name]Mateo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] more. For girls I love [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Lily[/name]. If you use [name]Gabrielle[/name], which is beautiful, pls dont nn her [name]Elle[/name] my daughter has so many girlfriends named [name]Elle[/name] that we call them by their last names.
Merylp - I was actually starting to get the get the feeling from the message boards that [name]Elle[/name] might be a bit of a problem. It seems like a hundred different names can lead to [name]Elle[/name]. I wish people would use full names. I would really prefer people use the full name - [name]Gabrielle[/name] - above all else. What makes me nervous is I definitely do not like “[name]Gabby[/name]”.
[name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Matteo[/name], and [name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] flows well.
[name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: I love [name]James[/name], too, and [name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] is a wonderful combo!
[name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: [name]Gabrielle[/name] and [name]Elle[/name] are both way too popular for me, and I’m not a fan of place names as first names.
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rodriguez[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] this combo!! [name]Vivienne[/name] is gorgeous, and [name]Lily[/name] compliments it perfectly!
For sibsets, I think [name]Matteo[/name] and [name]Gabrielle[/name] work well, as do [name]James[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name], but really, they all go together.
Thank you so much for sharing your opinions about our (final?) name choices. It feels really good to be able to run these by all of you name experts to be sure we don’t make our kids suffer their whole lives with awful names ;p
What awesome names! I love them all!
For the boys, both the first and middle names are on my own list so I love both combos!! For the girls both names are gorgeous but [name]Vivienne[/name] is one of my favourites so I’d have to choose [name]Vivienne[/name]
I like all your names that you have chosen! I especially like
[name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] with your last name, and I love the fact that [name]Siena[/name] means so much to you.
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Matteo[/name]! It’s on my short list of boy names too, although my husband likes [name]Matthias[/name] better. I think [name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] has great flow and will definitely be a nice brother to [name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] or either of your girl names. I understand you not liking [name]Gabby[/name] as a nn, but I agree with others that [name]Elle[/name] is too popular. Perhaps you could go with [name]Bree[/name], which is what a friend of mine’s daughter [name]Gabrielle[/name] goes by, although that is pretty popular as well.
For some reason boy names were so easy for hubby and I to agree on. [name]Glad[/name] to hear you all like our boy choices. The girl names have been such a challenge.
I am excited to see how many of you like [name]Vivienne[/name]. I think the spelling makes this classic far more pretty, feminine, and fresh than [name]Vivian[/name]. I was slightly worried that the sound of the name would seem too old lady-ish (like, great aunt vivian or something). Seems like you guys think it is fresh enough for a little girl… That is cool.
As for the [name]Gabrielle[/name] nickname challenge - When people hear [name]Bree[/name] /[name]Bri[/name], do they think of the cheese? Trying to find ways to avoid [name]Gabby[/name] (which I do not like) and [name]Elle[/name] (which sadly has become so popular) and I am running out of syllables!
Oh [name]Matteo[/name] is darling! Definitely my favorite of your names! My only issue is that when I say [name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name], I keep ending up saying [name]Mattea[/name] Luco! (I also love the name [name]Mattea[/name] for a girl!)
That could just be me though!
[name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] is also darling, although I would personally prefer [name]Hugo[/name] in the first name spot! So much spunk! Then again, [name]James[/name] is a traditional name that always sounds so handsome to me no matter how commonplace it is!
My vote goes to [name]Matteo[/name]!
I love the way [name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] flows, but I feel like [name]Gabrielle[/name] is over-exposed, at least where I live! And as you’ve noted, most of the nickname options are also way overdone.
So for that reason, my vote goes to [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Lily[/name]. [name]Vivienne[/name] isn’t really my style but I do think it’s very distinctive and elegant! [name]Vi[/name] or [name]Vivi[/name] are darling nickname options!
Is anyone else having [name]Dove[/name] 14’s problem of [name]Mattea[/name] Luco instead of [name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name]? I want to be sure the name is easy to pronouce correctly and does not come out sounding like a girl’s name
Also, do any of you have replacement suggestions for [name]Gabrielle[/name]. This whole nickname issue has me doubting that choice. [name]Lemon[/name] once suggested [name]Graziella[/name], but I think that is a bit too much for our last name. Any lighter suggestions more along the lines of [name]Gabrielle[/name] but with better nickname potential?
Oh, and one other thing I wanted to run by you all. A while back I asked about this, but I would like to hear a few more opinions.
[name]Chiara[/name] is a name I always loved and hoped to use for a daughter. My hubby has a niece of our same last name who is about 20 years old and spells her name [name]Kiara[/name]. As the Uncle, my hubby is almost closer in age to this niece than his own siblings - to the point where she is having a baby before we are!
What do you think of us using this name? Is that too close for comfort? [name]Do[/name] you think she be honored or annoyed?
It it is no good, any suggestions along the lines of [name]Chiara[/name]?
[name]Love[/name] [name]Matteo[/name] [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name]. [name]Matteo[/name]'s been in my top five for a while. I’ve seen it spelled with two t’s or with one and not sure which spelling to go with. I may skip middle names, but any first name ending in o works well with my last name, which is Italian and also ends in o (the Dad’s not really in the picture right now so the baby will have my last name).
Anyway, both choices are very nice, but those two are my faves.
[name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Siena[/name] and [name]James[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] are the names I would choose.
[name]Siena[/name] as a middle name is pretty but as I have said before on the boards I heard a little girl named [name]Sienna[/name]/[name]Siena[/name] who said her name was ‘sinner’, little did she understand what she was saying, so it is definitely better left in the mn spot imo.
Hey! If you’re okay using [name]Chiara[/name], I don’t see any reason why you can’t use it! A lot of people name children after family members. I think that [name]Chiara[/name] is a very pretty name.
Alternatives to [name]Gabrielle[/name] that you may like:
Thanks for all your replies. [name]Raphaela[/name] is actually one of my favorite names, but my husband despises it. It’s so frustrating
As for the rest of your list [name]Jill[/name] - I like them a lot and will keep them in mind, but I do not love them as mich as the full name [name]Gabrielle[/name]. Sigh.
This morning I actually had an idea - do you think the nn [name]Gia[/name] would work for [name]Gabrielle[/name]? I think [name]Gia[/name] is adorable as a nn. Can not wait to hear what you all think.
