Hubby and i have FINALLY brought our little girl home from china… she’s officially ours… and what’s awesome… the adoption was complete on her first birthday… so her adoption day and birthday are the same… we thought that was really sweet…
she is one year old… the most beautiful little girl i’ve ever seen in my life… we want her to keep the name her birth mother gave her… which was [name]Mei[/name]-Ling… we’re going to use that as her middle name… but would like to give her a new first name…
[name]Mei[/name]-Ling means beautiful and delicate in chinese…
we would like to give her something that fits well with that…
we love nature names… but are at a loss to think of something that’s fitting of our beloved daughter…
any suggestions are greatly appreciated…
if it helps, our last name is two syllables, starts with a B and ends with -lett
It is wonderful and special that you are choosing to keep [name]Mei[/name]-Ling’s name. I think that she will appreciate that piece of her personal history as she grows up.
Some nature names are:
[name]Winter[/name]
[name]Rain[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Ocean[/name]
[name]River[/name]
Meriwether
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Bellatrix[/name] (a star)
[name]Journey[/name]
Thank you so much for your suggestions…
we haven’t decided that we absolutely will go with the nature name…
hubby actually loves [name]Alexia[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling – i’m still on the fence.
he’s prn it like “ah-lek-see-uh”… i think that might be confusing and people will just say it like “ah-lek-suh”… like i said… i’m not sure if i like it or not…
three of your suggestions really stood out with me…
i loved::
[name]Dahlia[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling
[name]Liliana[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling
one that i just thought of that i kind of like is::
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling
wdyt?
You’re very welcome! [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], and [name]Liliana[/name] were actually my favorites with [name]Mei[/name]-Ling, too.
For what it’s worth, I pronounce [name]Alexia[/name] like you do, but like you said, it is similar to [name]Alexis[/name] and [name]Alexa[/name]. That said, I think that anyone who takes the time to read it will pronounce it correctly.
I’m pronouncing [name]Mei[/name]-Ling as “[name]May[/name]-ling.” Is this correct?
Congratulations!
I love [name]Jill[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Aurora[/name], which is nature-y and matches the meaning of [name]Mei[/name]-Ling I think. Others I like:
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
I posted at the same time as others, so sorry for repeats!
that is correct…
well… that’s how we’re pronouncing it…
some of the people we encountered in china pronounced it like “mee-ling” but i much prefer “may-ling”…
i’m pretty sure it can go either way…
When I saw [name]Alexia[/name], I pronounced it the way your husband does, I don’t know why it would be pronounced as [name]Alek[/name]-suh. I like [name]Alexia[/name] [name]Mei[/name]-Ling. Actually, I just like [name]Mei[/name]-Ling the best.
if your husband likes [name]Alexia[/name] and you want something to do with nature, then what about [name]Alyssa[/name] (if you prefer something more popular) or [name]Acacia[/name] (if you prefer something more offbeat)?
