Our NEW Top 5... Opinions greatly appreciated!

[name]Hi[/name] Berries!

We are due in [name]July[/name] and are having the hardest time with a girl name. This will be a sibling for our 1 year old, [name]Felix[/name]. If we have another boy he will most likely be [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Dexter[/name].

Here are our [name]NEW[/name] Top 5:

[name]Coraline[/name]- this would be in honor of my husband’s fabulous grandma, [name]Cora[/name] [name]Louise[/name]. Possible full name- [name]Coraline[/name] [name]Thisbe[/name]. But we wouldn’t want her to go by “[name]Cora[/name].” Would everyone automatically call her that?

[name]Eliza[/name]- I love this one, but we are unsure because I have 2 nieces with [name]El[/name]- names (one of which is an [name]Elizabeth[/name]) and we are a tight knit group. But don’t [name]Felix[/name] & [name]Eliza[/name] look just so adorable together?

[name]Noa[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] this name. Husband likes it. I worry that people will think it’s a kr8tive, gender switched name. Too confusing since [name]Noah[/name] is so popular for boys? Possible full name- [name]Noa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Willow[/name].

[name]Veronica[/name]- My husband loves this one, and I like it. But we both hate the nickname “[name]Ronni[/name].” :-/

[name]Penelope[/name]- Worried about the popularity/Kardashian factor. Also, “[name]Penny[/name]” is a little boring to us. Loved [name]Pippa[/name], until [name]Pippa[/name] Middleton became so huge… But “[name]Poppy[/name]” is kind of cute

So what do you guys think? Which one would go best with [name]Felix[/name]? We love the name [name]Felix[/name] and want to find a girl name that is just as perfect for our family

Thanks in advance!

I like [name]Noa[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]…

I adore [name]Coraline[/name] [name]Thisbe[/name]. Especially as it honors your grandmother.

Based on my personal experience, people use ask before shortening names. Go ahead and say she’s [name]Coraline[/name], provided you use the name.

Without reading your comments I thought [name]Eliza[/name] for sure. But if you guys are close with the niece [name]Elizabeth[/name] it’s a bad idea.

[name]Noa[/name] is beautiful, I love this name. [name]Veronica[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are sweet, but not that great with [name]Felix[/name].

[name]Coraline[/name] is very beautiful, but for me very tied to mr. Gaiman. I do love your hubbies fabulous grandma though! If you introduce her as [name]Coraline[/name] I think it should be fine, but she might prefer [name]Cora[/name] when she’s older, you’ll never know. The same goes for [name]Veronica[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name], they might be called [name]Ronnie[/name] and [name]Penny[/name] no matter what you intend. [name]Noa[/name] is the only nickname proof one, unless people call her Nou, Noee or something like that. Could you do [name]Noa[/name] [name]Coraline[/name]?

I think I would go with [name]Noa[/name] actually. [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Noa[/name]!

[name]Coraline[/name] gets my vote!

I love [name]Noa[/name]… I think you should use it! Different enough without being yew-neek. [name]Love[/name] it.

I vote for [name]Coraline[/name] (or [name]Coralie[/name], if that were under consideration). Automatically shortening names, especially for girls, is much less common than it used to be, and it honors your grandmother-in-law.

[name]Eliza[/name] is out due to the girls in the family; [name]Noa[/name] is indeed going to be perceived as gender-bending [name]Noah[/name], given that [name]Noah[/name] is orders of magnitude more commonly given than [name]Noa[/name]; [name]Veronica[/name] feels a little stately next to spritely [name]Felix[/name] (though I don’t think [name]Ronni[/name] is by any means inevitable).

I like [name]Veronica[/name], the hard C sound makes it work with [name]Felix[/name] to me. Maybe it’s because [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Mars[/name] was so spunky, so I think quirky and offbeat rather than regal. I don’t think anyone would call her [name]Ronnie[/name] by default.

Otherwise, [name]Coraline[/name]!

What about calling [name]Veronica[/name] “[name]Vera[/name]”. I don’t think it necessarily needs a NN though and certainly [name]Ronnie[/name] would not be the only option. There’s even [name]Nicki[/name] too if you like that. [name]Veronica[/name] gets my vote regardless though

[name]Coraline[/name]- I think this is quite lovely. I think most people will shorten it to [name]Cori[/name] if anything, but I can see [name]Coraline[/name] as a stand alone name. Other nickname possibility: [name]Lina[/name].
[name]Eliza[/name]- If you have a cousin whom you are close with named [name]Elizabeth[/name], don’t use this. They’re just too similar. What about [name]Elsa[/name]? She could also be called [name]Elsie[/name]. Granted [name]Elsa[/name] is related to [name]Elisabeth[/name] which is related to [name]EliZabeth[/name], but it seems distant enough.
[name]Noa[/name]- The idea is cute, but it does seem like its trying to be kr8tive and yoonek. The combo flows very nicely.
[name]Veronica[/name]- [name]Ronni[/name] is a nickname associated with this name but if you started calling her, oh, let’s say [name]Vera[/name], since she’s very young, you could avoid [name]Ronni[/name].
[name]Penelope[/name]- This name has too much rich history to give it over to the Kardashians! I refuse. I would love to see you use it, it’s darling. [name]Poppy[/name] is a nice nickname. I much prefer [name]Pippa[/name] though. Another nickname idea:[name]Nell[/name] or [name]Nellie[/name].

I would say [name]Eliza[/name] if you didn’t have a little one close to you named [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It is lovely with [name]Felix[/name]! My next favorite is definitely [name]Coraline[/name]. I love the connection to grandma.

I haven’t read any responses yet but here’s my opinion:
[name]Coraline[/name]- I love coraline and thisbe is a great middle, too. [name]Cora[/name] is pretty much a given in my mind, because I use nicknames all the time. But I love [name]Cora[/name], so… [name]Do[/name] you have another nickname that you’d prefer?

[name]Eliza[/name]- [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] do look wonderful together. I’m kind of partial to [name]Eliza[/name] being a nickname for [name]Elizabeth[/name] however. I did know a “just” [name]Eliza[/name] growing up, and it didn’t seem weird to me, but my style is more along the lines of longer full name, almost always used nickname.

[name]Noa[/name]- [name]Noa[/name] kind of bothers me. It feels like it’s missing something- I keep wanting to say it’s [name]Nora[/name]. And [name]Nora/name I love. [name]Norah[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Willow[/name] is great!

[name]Veronica[/name]- [name]Ronni[/name] wasn’t my initial nickname… [name]Vicki[/name], however was, which I don’t like much either. I think you could make [name]Vivi[/name] work well, though.

[name]Penelope[/name]- [name]Penny[/name] is so cute. Same with [name]Pippa[/name], and [name]Poppy[/name]. [name]Poppy[/name] might be my favorite, but I would expect a pre-teen or teen type to grow out of that nickname in favor of something that sounds more grown up.

ooh vera for veronica!! Great suggestion! And [name]Corie[/name] for [name]Coraline[/name], i like that, too.

[name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Eliza[/name] due to the reason you mentioned. [name]Noa[/name] indeed will come off as a girl named [name]Noah[/name]. I dislike [name]Penelope[/name] - to me it’s overdone right now. If you do choose it I would suggest [name]Poppy[/name] as the nn, but then [name]Penny[/name] is just nms.

I adore [name]Coraline[/name] [name]Thisbe[/name]. I don’t see people deciding to shorten it without your permission. There is the possibility she will decide she wants to when she’s older. A lot of little girls do that to assert independence. I did! But it’s often short-lived. I didn’t go by [name]Kris[/name] forever.

I think [name]Veronica[/name] is a beautiful name but I also can’t stand [name]Ronnie[/name]. [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Nica[/name] are other choices but admittedly less intuitive.

So many great responses! Thank you!! I think [name]Noa[/name] & [name]Coraline[/name] are the Top 2 as of tonight

saralouise~ We can’t use [name]Elsa[/name] either because the other [name]El[/name]- niece that I have is [name]Elise[/name]. We have an [name]Elizabeth[/name] and an [name]Elise[/name]. So we probably should cross [name]Eliza[/name] off the list…

To me “[name]Vera[/name]” is it’s own name and I would hesitate using it because then I think she would always go by that, and never [name]Veronica[/name]. I think this one might get crossed off the list due to the nickname issue…

My sister and my best friend both say they see my daughter as a little [name]Noa[/name]. I wish the DH loved the name. He says he likes it… but he prefers [name]Coraline[/name] & [name]Veronica[/name].

ottilie~ We probably wouldn’t go with [name]Noa[/name] [name]Coraline[/name] in case we ended up having a second girl at some point. But maybe [name]Noa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Willow[/name] isn’t the perfect combo. I’m wondering if I came up with a different middle if the DH would be more on board.

Hmm… lots to think about tonight!

I like [name]Eliza[/name] I wouldn’t worry about [name]EL[/name] names. [name]Love[/name] [name]Coraline[/name] also but she will get called [name]Cora[/name].

I am very biased, but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Noa[/name]! I fell in love with the name as soon as I found it. Its sweet, pretty and spunky! I will be honest though, I have gotten a few raised eyebrows when introducing my daughter. Usually people my age (25) and younger except it easily, while my parents generation tend to think its just another crazy baby name. Its been fun giving them a name education!

mkenison~ [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Noa[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]! So, do you have a lot of problems with spelling and/or people thinking your daughter was a boy? I’m very curious to know more of how the name is perceived in real life! Thanks!

Seems like your heart is with [name]Noa[/name]. I didn’t know I liked the name until I heard it on a little girl recently. It has this special quiet sweetness. I was surprised that it didn’t sound at all masculine to me.
I think [name]Coraline[/name] might be a more logical match for [name]Felix[/name]- stronger sounds. [name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Poppy[/name] would be perfect too, but it IS becoming more popular… Then again, so is beautiful [name]Felix[/name] :frowning:

I love the name [name]Penelope[/name]! It’s pretty and sweet. I can’t see it becoming super popular even with the new celeb name. It just…doesn’t appeal to everyone. I love the nn [name]Nell[/name] and [name]Nellie[/name]! :). Too bad you can’t use [name]Eliza[/name], it sounds great with [name]Felix[/name] but I agree, too close to [name]Elizabeth[/name]
