I’m still on the hunt for a name that grabs me for what I assume will be our third boy. We have two sons [name_u]Theo[/name_u] ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]) and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] ([name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]).
We are looking for a name that has a vintage feel, not too popular and ideally has a long formal name with a short nickname. Names that we like but have ruled out/I’m not sold on include [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Frederic[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u].
I’d love to hear your suggestions, I’m struggling for inspiration!
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m] came to mind, but I’m not sure what you could use as a nn. [name_m]Evander[/name_m] nn [name_u]Evan[/name_u] would also work well imo. My favorite, however, with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] ([name_u]Gus[/name_u]) is the previously suggested [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u]), now that is a perfect sibset!
[name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] came to mind instantly. This spelling is far less common than the eighties and nineties [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] and it still sounds familiar yet still uncommon. I believe it is the English spelling, with the G.
[name_m]Rye[/name_m], pronounced like the bread, [name_m]Geo[/name_m], like the beginning of geography with a long o sound, or [name_m]Geoff[/name_m] are solid nicknames.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Geoff[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Rye[/name_m]…[name_m]Geo[/name_m] rhymes with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] so you may not like that one
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] works well with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u]= theo, [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Tim[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]…another classic, could be shortened to [name_u]Pax[/name_u] or [name_u]Pat[/name_u] or even [name_m]Rick[/name_m]…aric could also work
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], and their little brother…
[name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Henry[/name_m] -> unless this is an issue with [name_u]Theo[/name_u]’s mn. Wouldn’t be for me but…)
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Leon[/name_m] (so you don’t have [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m])
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_m]Geoffry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Geoff[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zack[/name_m]
Niklaus nn [name_u]Nick[/name_u]
[name_m]Emmerich[/name_m]/[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Rich[/name_m]/[name_m]Eric[/name_m]/[name_f]Em[/name_f]/Mett
I agree [name_u]Max[/name_u] sounds like a great fit but it’s rather popular here in Australia.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is another good idea but I’m not a fan of [name_m]Seb[/name_m] or bastian.
I’ll give some thought to the other suggestions, I like the feel of [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m] but I suspect my husband will say its too much like a last name.
Thanks for the input xx
Great suggestions. I like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] nn [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] but my husband is not keen. If we were to use [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a nn we’d use [name_u]Francis[/name_u] as the first name. But I do think [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] work.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Sol[/name_m] was on our list with [name_u]Gus[/name_u], I quite like it but my husband isn’t sold. I’ll have to work on him!
I love [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]/[name_m]Wes[/name_m] and [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]/[name_m]Abe[/name_m] but my husband has vettoed them. We have a tough time agreeing!
I love the input, it’s certaintly got me thinking.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
I love your boys’ names and, as all of them have been on our list as we try to name our second son, I’ll suggest [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], the name of our first son.
I also like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] or [name_u]Francis[/name_u] nn [name_m]Fritz[/name_m].
