Please help us pick from our Top 5 list, for our girl on the way. We have a son named [name]Mason[/name] [name]Daniel[/name], and would like something that goes with that!
Also need middle names, so open to suggestions!
In no particular order, here is our top 5 list:
[name]Ava[/name] (wish it wasn’t so popular!)
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name] (another note, like [name]Lauren[/name] but don’t like nickname [name]Laurie[/name], do you think we’ll be able to avoid it?)
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Mason[/name] and [name]Chloe[/name] is too Kardashian.
[name]Mason[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] both have a pronounced “ay” sound and [name]Ava[/name] is just too popular.
[name]Mason[/name] and [name]Lauren[/name] both end in “n”.
My ratings
1 [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] (an ancient Byzantine name but sounds spunky and contemporary)
2 [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] ([name]Claire[/name] is a simple, sweet, classic and timeless name)
I like [name]Zoe[/name] best. I want to suggest [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Claire[/name], but I can’t stop hearing eclair in the middle there. I think I’m getting over that though. I think [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Claire[/name] would be lovely.
I like [name]Mason[/name] & [name]Claire[/name] best.
I have a cousin named [name]Lauren[/name] as well as a few friends, and she nor they were ever called ‘[name]Laurie[/name]’ as a nn, at least as far as I know! You might hear “Laur” as a short cut from time to time, but [name]Laurie[/name] seems far less likely to me.
[name]Ava[/name]. I also love this name but hate the popularity. However, I think [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] are pretty evenly matched for popularity.
[name]Lauren[/name] - I adore this! [name]Lauren[/name] and [name]Mason[/name] sound adorable together. In addition, I have never met a [name]Lauren[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Laura[/name], etc. that has ever been called [name]Laurie[/name].
[name]Claire[/name] - I adore [name]Claire[/name], but I don’t like how it sounds next to [name]Mason[/name]. It’s good but you can do better!
[name]Zoe[/name] - It’s ok, but I’ve never found the name [name]Zoe[/name] that appealing. [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] would be pretty evenly matched stylistically though
[name]Chloe[/name] - I don’t pay attention to the Kardashians, but that is the first thing I thought about.
[name]Ava[/name] (wish it wasn’t so popular!) - I don’t understand why [name]Ava[/name] (#5) is “too popular” while [name]Chloe[/name] (#11,) [name]Zoe[/name] (#30, plus [name]Zoey[/name] at #20 and [name]Zoie[/name] at #571,) and [name]Lauren[/name] (in the top 100 for 34 years) aren’t. If you want an uncommon name, it’s not on this list. That said, I think it’s a beautiful name, and it goes fine with [name]Mason[/name] even with the repeating vowel sounds.
[name]Claire[/name]- I like this name. It’s straightforward and classic- you really can’t go wrong.
[name]Chloe[/name]- Personally I prefer [name]Zoe[/name], but not for any particular reason.
[name]Lauren[/name] (another note, like [name]Lauren[/name] but don’t like nickname [name]Laurie[/name], do you think we’ll be able to avoid it?)- I think it’s a bit dated, but a fine name. I’ve never known a [name]Lauren[/name] who was called [name]Laurie[/name].
[name]Zoe[/name]- I like this name a lot, but not as much as [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Ava[/name].
[name]Ava[/name] - I prefer [name]Eva[/name], but [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] do work well together. They’re pretty similar in popularity, which is why.
[name]Claire[/name] - I find this 80s dated and just not very pretty.
[name]Chloe[/name] - Seconded (or whatevered) the Kardashian link. I don’t even follow them but they’re too popular culture at the minute.
[name]Lauren[/name] - This was very popular in my area in the 90s, I know loads who are mid-teens now, but it’s still a nice enough name. I’ve not known one get called [name]Laurie[/name], so I think you’d be ok on that one. The only one I know who goes by a nickname is a [name]Lola[/name], the rest are all [name]Lauren[/name]. Occasionally heard Laur or Lauz, but that’s playground slang that’s never used formally.
[name]Zoe[/name] - I like this too, I think it’s a very pretty name.
I think [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] would be my favourite, followed by [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Lauren[/name].
[name]Ava[/name] - this is a lovely choice despite her popularity she is very pretty yet I do think [name]Ava[/name] & [name]Mason[/name] feels incredibly trendy and could potentially date the sibling set.
[name]Claire[/name] - I love [name]Claire[/name] she’s simple and dynamic. A pretty classic choice. I think [name]Claire[/name] works really well with [name]Mason[/name]. [name]Mason[/name] & [name]Claire[/name] sound very wholesome together.
[name]Chloe[/name] - I honestly really dislike the name [name]Chloe[/name] I think she sounds bland and just a bit ugh, if that makes sense. I think [name]Chloe[/name] & [name]Mason[/name] create the name kind of issues as [name]Ava[/name] & [name]Mason[/name] too trendy and potentially could date.
[name]Lauren[/name] - Great choice, as the same feel as [name]Mason[/name]. Despite this I don’t know whether [name]Lauren[/name] sounds too harsh with the ‘en’ ending teamed with [name]Mason[/name]. Have you thought of [name]Laura[/name]? [name]Laura[/name] and [name]Mason[/name] work well together!! Concerning the [name]Laurie[/name] thing I don’t think you have much too worry about. I know so many [name]Lauren[/name]'s who are just [name]Lauren[/name] and have never had their name shortened. I live in the UK where nicknames are so in and the hottest names around are nickname choices like [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Millie[/name]. I know hundreds of [name]Charlie[/name]'s and [name]Millie[/name]'s not a single [name]Camilla[/name] or [name]Charles[/name].
[name]Zoe[/name] - I like [name]Zoe[/name] she’s really grown on me and I think [name]Zoe[/name] could work as a refreshing choice with [name]Mason[/name]. I like [name]Mason[/name] & [name]Zoe[/name] together but then in retrospect maybe [name]Zoe[/name] feels too light for [name]Mason[/name] which has a harsher sound…
My favourite is [name]Claire[/name]. [name]Mason[/name] & [name]Claire[/name].
I like [name]Zoe[/name] best.
For middles how about
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Dinah[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
*[name]Ava[/name]- I agree with you, your child might be in the same grade as a lot of other [name]Ava[/name]'s!
*[name]Claire[/name]- [name]Claire[/name] is also quite common, but it is just beautiful. I like it better than [name]Ava[/name]
*[name]Chloe[/name]- I don’t know why, but I’ve always had a soft spot for [name]Chloe[/name]. I think it’s so classy. When I hear that name, I picture [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn in [name]Paris[/name]
*[name]Lauren[/name]- I don’t know any [name]Laurens[/name] who go by [name]Laurie[/name], and I’ve never really thought of that nickname for a [name]Lauren[/name]. However, I think it’s very dated. I don’t like it. It’s sort of the same as [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Ashley[/name]. Though they are nice names, they were way too common a while back and now they feel a bit stale to me. But it’s up to you!
*[name]Zoe[/name]- I really like [name]Zoe[/name]! It’s such a cute, kooky name. It reminds me of [name]Zooey[/name] Deschanel types. You know, just goofy in the best way and whimsical
I think [name]Claire[/name] is my favorite, but I also like [name]Chloe[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name]. [name]Ava[/name] is nice, too. The only one I really don’t care for with [name]Mason[/name] is [name]Lauren[/name], since they have similar endings.
[name]Mason[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] or [name]Zoe[/name]
They are well matched, and all pretty popular. I like [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] best.
btw I don’t think too many [name]Laurens[/name] get the nickname [name]Laurie[/name].
I know a [name]Laurie[/name] and she is just [name]Laurie[/name], not a [name]Lauren[/name].
The other [name]Lori[/name] I know is a [name]Lorraine[/name].
I know - [name]Mason[/name] got so popular - it was middle of the pack when we picked it, and then it shot up in popularity (haha all because of us). I don’t want to date the sibset by pairing it with another super popular name of the time, which is why I think I want to avoid [name]Ava[/name], but I also feel like [name]Ava[/name] has a very classic feel to it, no?
I think I like [name]Claire[/name] as well, but have trouble picking a middle to go with it. Any suggestions?
In talking with hubby, he has some silly feeling that names aren’t supposed to start with a Z. [name]Don[/name]'t understand the logic, but that might mean that [name]Zoe[/name]/[name]Zoey[/name] is out.
I love [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Lauren[/name]! I know like 5 [name]Lauren[/name]'s and none of them [name]EVER[/name] get called [name]Laurie[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about her being called [name]Laurie[/name], unless she tells people to call her [name]Laurie[/name], no one will. [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] are some middle name suggestions.
When reading your post, [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Chloe[/name] both came to mind! [name]Ava[/name] is waaaaaay too popular now. [name]Lauren[/name] is probably my favorite on your list. So sweet and feminine. Here are some middle name ideas for [name]Claire[/name]:
