We find out the gender of baby #3 in one week, but I really think it’s a boy. My husband is tired of discussing names until we find out, but then this morning he says, “What about [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? We could call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u].” What?! I’ve never really considered this name. It’s not Germanic and of masculine names I would say it’s softer sounding. I’m just completely surprised and in shock that my husband would suggest it, because it doesn’t seem like “his style”.
So, first of all what do you think about [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Theo[/name_u]” with sisters [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]” and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”?
Second of all, I really want to honor my dad, [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], is it way too far of a stretch that [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] just share Greek origins to be an honor name? Thanks!
Edited to add: Sorry I forgot to mention the middle name is Irwin. So it would be Theodore Irwin, unless we decide to add a second middle.
I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] fits right in and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is perfect with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. If you want to honour your dad, I don’t think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] does the job, though you could always go for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], if you just want a subtle link to your dad, I think it’s fine.
I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] sounds perfect with your kid’s names, and the the spunky nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u] goes great with your other spunkily-nicknamed children.
I mean, I don’t think it’s a perfect way to honor a [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], but it’s at least a loose connection? If you love it and want to use it, I would milk the connection as best I can. “We wanted to honor my dad in our son’s name, and his name was Greek, so we chose a Greek name for our child…” There are all sorts of ways to “honor” relatives in names that I really think anything goes.
My hubs loves [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] too! It’s growing on me… I think [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are both really cute nicknames.
