Haha I know girls named [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_u]Noa[/name_u], [name_u]Nova[/name_u] & [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]! And we actually crossed [name_u]Eden[/name_u] off our list for being too common,
I find people’s…comfort level? I guess is what you’d call it fascinating what one considers risky someone else considers too safe. And I’m sure it has to do with culture and what others around you would consider weird or ‘out there’ as well
Anyway the one that I’ve always loved and would never be brave enough to use is [name_f]Silence[/name_f]. I love the sound and the nickname options of [name_f]Sia[/name_f], [name_f]Ila[/name_f], [name_u]Lenny[/name_u] etc. make it so appealing. And for me [name_f]Silence[/name_f] has such positive associations with it, but because I know others have negative associations with the word I could never use it.
That’s so interesting! I only know of one little girl called [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I guess I wouldn’t use it because I’d be worried people might think I’m religious. I love the sound though, and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as a nickname.
That is a high bar for me, but I probably wouldn’t use (for a first name):
[name_f]Clytemnestra[/name_f]
[name_f]Sappho[/name_f]
[name_u]Snapdragon[/name_u]
[name_f]Eadaoine[/name_f] (just because nobody would know what to do for pronunciation)
Hippolyta (“Hippo”)
I’m the type to have a very small list of “out there names” as I tend to be very open to most names so it’s hard but on the list as of now:
Sunshine - I would so use this name but I got a lot of backlash and it’s not worth it when it’s not my favorite
Apple - I love it but it’s a fruit
Kahlo - I would love to use it for a boy but given how I’m Mexican, [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Kahlo[/name_f] was a big part of my life growing up and still is for my family
I tend to like out there names over traditional ones, but here are some that just a little to brave for me:
[name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] - to pirate-y
[name_m]Salvatore[/name_m] - too formal/ snobby
[name_f]Venus[/name_f]- rhymes with
[name_u]Lynx[/name_u]- can’t commit to x endings for some reason
[name_f]Whisper[/name_f]- too boho
Seconding [name_f]Valkyrie[/name_f]! Such a cool name but a bit too much for me.
Coco. I love it, but it feels just a little too childish/pet-like for an adult to wear.
[name_f]Olga[/name_f]. Unfortunately this name gets a bit of negative review on Nameberry (and in real life!) but I think it’s lovely.
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f]. I’m on the fence about this one, though! Maybe I’d use it.
