Outside opinions as we cull our girls list

We are really hoping November will be our lucky month ttc baby #3, just for the sake of my husband’s work schedule next year. Going along with that, we discussed potential girl names for the first time in a long while and here is what we are currently left with after my husband vetoed a few hundred options :joy::

  1. Louise

  2. Ingrid

  3. Fern

  4. Susie

  5. Maxine

  6. Bea

  7. Beatrice

  8. Priscilla

If our next is a girl, what do you think would pair well with our Warren Patrick and Clyde Theodore? Also always open to other suggestions, too!

And you know I can’t be concise , so I’m adding some of our pros/cons and some middle pairings we’ve thrown around. Middle names are a mix of names we like the meaning of, honor names, and random names with no meaning.

Louise - husband’s top pick (changes literally every time we discuss names), though was very close running with Ingrid and Fern. Like the nn Lou. The popularity of Eloise and the number of them we know/know of detracts from the charm of Louise a bit for me. It also feels like there has been a huge surge in Lou/Lu names for girls recently like Lucy/Lu, Luella/Lu (there’s one in our son’s Sunday school)… I’m blanking on more examples, but I’m a little worried Louise will rise quickly in popularity or would blend in with a bunch of other little Lou’s.

Ingrid - tied with Fern as my husband’s second pick. Feels like an underused gem in the US- it last ranked #1,000 in 2021, yet is easily spelled and recognizable. I love Ingrid on paper and the type of girl/woman I imagine would have the name, but I sometimes feel like our accent butchers it and makes it sound somewhat unpleasant?

Fern - tied with Ingrid as my husband’s second pick. Pretty much all of the same sentiments from Ingrid for me- love the vibe and Charolette’s Webb association. Love that it’s uncommon but easy to say and spell. There was actually a Fern close in my husband’s family tree (pun not intended ), so that is an added bonus. His grandparents also owned a plant nursery once upon a time and his entire family are big into gardening and horticulture, so it feels like an even bigger nod to them. Same concerns as our hick drawl can make it sound less awesome than it looks on paper? It feels easier for me to say than Ingrid, though.

Susie - husband vetoed Susannah but likes Susie. We both *like* it, not sure we *love* it. I love it as a full combo with a middle and last name, not sure it would feel as charming just saying Susie on the daily.

Maxine - husband doesn’t mind, isn’t sure if it’s his top pick, but will think on it. Picked it as a middle for several other names, though. I adore Maxine and would love unbiased opinions on it.

Bea / Beatrice - there have been times when he actually suggested Beatrice and at one point he liked it more than I did, but as of tonight, it is not his favorite but not one he would veto. He is staunchly against Beatrix, though. I love the meaning. Beatrice feels a little fussy for our family, but i think my husband prefers Bea as a nickname.

Priscilla - husband wasn’t super keen on this one tonight but didn’t veto it so I’m keeping it around for now because I used to despise it and somewhere along the line it grew on me and I just can’t let it go. I like it with our last name, like that it’s uncommon. Feels feminine but has a bit of a dark edge to me, almost like Elvira? Would also love unbiased opinions on Priscilla.

Of your options, I love:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] → sparky, familiar but distinctive, and lovely

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] → warm, cosy and sassy too

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] → unexpected, sleek and cool

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] → it has a hint of clunkiness but in a good way [name_f][/name_f]- old fashioned but with cool nickname options (Cillia, [name_f]Pia[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_m]Pip[/name_m], [name_f]Cici[/name_f], Prisca), with a hint of witchyness

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

Of your combos, I like…

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (I think [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f] separates it from the popularity of ‘Lu’ names)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] (bright and celestial, with softness too)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (vintage yet fresh)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] (so sweet and cool)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (sleek and sweet, with spikyness too)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (sparky and bright)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] (cute and stylish [name_f][/name_f]- I think this could be [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or Betsy?)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (sassy and warm [name_f][/name_f]- and nickname Pippa/Pip/Pearlie/Perla?)

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts on your list…

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] ~ elegant, understated and graceful very pretty name however I agree that [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is popular and you may feel that [name_f]Louise[/name_f] blends in with the Eloise’s. If popularity/blending in is a concern then I would try a different option. [name_f]Or[/name_f] maybe [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] could make her feel more distinctive. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is gorgeous however I’m actually loving the feel of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] more.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] ~ absolutely love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] she’s sleek, strong, elegant and refined. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] has a gorgeous meaning and feels very impactful paired with Warr3n + Clyd3.
[name_f][/name_f]I cannot comment on the accent side of things but I feel the sound of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is universal and would work in most accents. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] are of course beautiful.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] ~ I’m a sucker for [name_f]Fern[/name_f] she’s absolutely beautiful so simple, refined, elegant, outdoorsy and has this soft bohemian flair. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] fits with your boys nicely and I think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] + [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] are just magical. Absolutely gorgeous choice.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Susie[/name_f] ~ I can see the appeal she’s sweet and feels fun however for me just [name_f]Susie[/name_f] is a little lacklustre massively would prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Susie[/name_f]. From your [name_f]Susie[/name_f] combinations I do like [name_f]Susie[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] she feels very cowgirl which is fun.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] ~ I completely understand why people like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] she’s strong, bold, impactful feels retro chic and I think [name_m]Max[/name_m] is a sweet nickname. However I’m not completely sold on [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] I do find her a little ‘try hard’ and for me I like names that feel more whimsy naturally pretty which I think [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] lacks. I like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] + [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Melody[/name_f] from your combinations.

[name_f][/name_f]

Bea/Beatrice ~ [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is sweet, fun and feels very garden fairy I think [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is pretty also suggesting [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] to add a bit of grandeur. However I do prefer [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is regal, elegant and classy with a precious meaning to match. I actually prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] she feels spunkier maybe [name_f]Beatris[/name_f] would appeal. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] + [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] are stunning[name_f][/name_f] swooning over [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as a nickname.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] ~ I’m completely confused about [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] on one hand I’m like this is so cool she’s very clunky, unexpected and feels very hipster. Priscilla’s parents would be found hanging around in vintage shops in Shoreditch and taking their [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] to ukulele classes with the likes of [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] + [name_m]Jonty[/name_m]. But then I think really [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] gosh okay that’s a whole lot of a name and how much can someone really like [name_m]Elvis[/name_m]. I’m at loss with this one but [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is super fun.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] + [name_f]Fern[/name_f] :tada:

Thoughts on your shortlist:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] – A great stylistic match for [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and Clyde—solid, vintage, grounded. Your concern about “Lou”/“Lu” being trendy is valid (Lucy, [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] are everywhere). That said, [name_f]Louise[/name_f] itself remains underused compared to [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], so it still feels fresh. I actually love your [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] “Dottie Lou” idea—it gives it a distinct twist and avoids blending into the sea of Lu’s.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] – Underused gem for sure—recognizable, strong, slightly severe but chic. I think the concern about your accent making it feel less elegant is worth noting, since you’d be saying it every day. Still, it’s bold, distinctive, and would stand out next to [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] in the best way.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] – I think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] might actually be your best “vibe match.” It’s vintage, short, spunky, and ties into your family’s gardening/horticultural background beautifully. Yes, it’s simple, but it has backbone. With the right middle (e.g. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f] Winifred), it really sings. Easier on the ear than [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] if you worry about accent issues.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Susie[/name_f] – [name_m]Super[/name_m] sweet, but I agree it feels stronger as a nickname than a standalone. If [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is out, maybe [name_f]Susan[/name_f] “Susie”? [name_f]Susan[/name_f] is vintage, due for revival, and balances [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] better. As-is, [name_f]Susie[/name_f] feels slightly lighter/more diminutive than your sibset.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] – Honestly, I adore [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] for you. It’s quirky, vintage, and spunky while still grounded. I could absolutely see [name_m]Warren[/name_m], [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] together. Nickname potential (Max, [name_m]Maxie[/name_m], even Minnie) makes it versatile.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] – [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is lovely, literary, and rich in history. Might feel a tad more ornate than [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], but [name_f]Bea[/name_f] brings it back down to earth. I don’t think it’s too fussy—it balances them well in full form, and [name_f]Bea[/name_f] on its own is short, strong, and sweet. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is genius—it keeps it playful.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] – Uncommon, slightly gothic/glam, but also frilly. I actually love it in the sense that it gives me the same dark-feminine feel as names like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. I think it works, but it’s definitely more “extra” than [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] ranking with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Beatrice/Bea
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Susie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

Middle name pairings I especially love:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] “Dottie Lou”
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

I think your list goes perfectly with your two boys! A soft, retro vintage vibe.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal ranking from favourite to least:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f], [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Louise[/name_f] has grown on me recently. I used to feel it was a bit dated because I mostly associate it with being one of the most popular middle names for girls my age (late 90s/early 2000s). I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] a little more, but [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is feeling prettier to me nowadays! [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is more popular, but I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a little unexpected now so it doesn’t feel as popular to me. Recognisable, but not as popular as it once was.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] but she’s not my favourite. I agree that she is recognisable and easy to spell, whilst being more unusual. If probably wouldn’t use it if I didn’t like the way it sounded in my accent, though.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is pretty, I just like the other names on your list more. If you’re also not convinced by how it sounds in your accent, what about as a middle name? You could do the same with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. Middle names get used a lot less, but [name_f]Fern[/name_f] seems to have a lot of connection for you so I think that could be a compromise?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Susie[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Susie[/name_f] is really pretty! I think I prefer it to longer forms although I do have a soft spot for [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. If you prefer it as a combo you could do a double-barreled first name and call her by two names. Here in the UK nicknames as full names are really common [name_f][/name_f]- I know more Katies than Katherines, more Alfies than Alfreds, more Ellies than Elizabeths/Eleanors etc [name_f][/name_f]- so I don’t find it strange to not use a full name. I actually had a childhood friend who was just [name_f]Susie[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I love [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]! I think she is ready for more of a comeback. [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] fits really well with your boys too!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] / [name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]! She is one of my favourites. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nicknames are [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f], which I see you have listed further in your post. I really love your idea of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Jeanine[/name_f] “Betty Jean”! I don’t think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feels fussy. To me she feels the same kind of 30s-50s retro as [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I love [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]! I think she fits the vibe of the rest of your list. If you’re not 100% sure it’s another good contender for a middle name if you wanted.

[name_f][/name_f]

With your two sons, I think my favourites would be [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite combos:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] You can always pronounce the name the Norwegian way – Ingri (without the d sound at the end): Ingree. [name_f][/name_f] I’ve known several, family members and Ukranian, and [name_m]Inge[/name_m], Ingi (Inghee) is a really cute nn that will not sound cutesy.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] also is a wonderful name. [name_f][/name_f] I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], and I prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] to [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Either way, [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] are great names.

[name_f][/name_f]

The “Susie” names are big in my family. [name_f][/name_f] We have a [name_f]Susan[/name_f] (Suzy), [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (Susie), and [name_f]Alison[/name_f] [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] (Ali Sue). [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] is about to make a comeback, so you’ll be ahead of a trend, and my aunt [name_f]Susan[/name_f] is in her 70s and she’s been [name_f]Suzy[/name_f] her whole life, even as a business-owner. [name_f][/name_f] I like [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], sending baby dust!!!

[name_f][/name_f]

I don’t love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is tough with the way Americans say it [name_f][/name_f]- I feel the ing sound is just too harsh. [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] only reminds me of Elvis’s wife (I could be in a minority here) and that ties a lot of darkness/sadness to the name for me. The rest are all beautiful [name_f][/name_f]- except you could use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and just call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f] too! [name_f]Susie[/name_f] is sweet (could call her [name_f]Sue[/name_f] as well). [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] lends the adorable nickname [name_m]Max[/name_m] for a girl as well!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] loves in order of most to least: [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Susie[/name_f]. Not counting middle names, I think [name_m]Warren[/name_m], [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] sound the best. They sound like adorable sibling characters in a fun nature movie

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] pairings:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f] is adorable. I feel the other two have too similar endings to [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is also very sweet. I love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] but feel it’s a little off with the two fs? Not sure!!!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Susie[/name_f] [name_f]Jeanine[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- chef’s kiss.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- STUNNING! Also love [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]? [name_f]Amazing[/name_f].

Good luck!!!

I think Ingrid is the best option with the boys’ names with Maxine, Louise, and Fern filling out the top 4 in that order.

For the middles:

Ingrid Estelle of the ones you have. Have you considered Ingrid Elaine or Ingrid Claire?

Maxine Eloise of the ones you have. Have you considered Maxine Ophelia or Maxine Renee?

Louise Dorothy of the ones you have. Have you considered Louise Ivette?

Fern Caroline of the ones you have. Have you considered Fern Anneliese or Fern Vanessa?

Hopefully these help!

Oh wow – I absolutely love this list! Listed in order of preference (with reasoning):

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  1. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: she is such an underrated gem! I love her grounded but elegant sound, she blends so so well with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]. Definitely in that sweet spot for popularity & comes with the cute stretchy nicknames of “Iggy” or “Inga” but can easily just be [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] as well!

    [name_f][/name_f]
  2. [name_f][/name_f]
  3. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: love love love [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! She’s such a “little black dress” name, with so much timelessness & versatility, never overdone or trendy. There’s definitely a lot of Eloise’s & Lucy’s nowadays, but I would be pleasantly surprised to meet a little [name_f]Louise[/name_f] nonetheless!

    [name_f][/name_f]
  4. [name_f][/name_f]
  5. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] has always been on my list – I love how underrated & versatile she is, with the vintage charm of “Maxine” or the tomboyish alternative of “Max” or “Mack”! I absolutely love her vibe with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] too!

    [name_f][/name_f]
  6. [name_f][/name_f]
  7. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f]:[name_f][/name_f] I love all the meaning this name has for your family & her natural charm as well! The only reason she doesn’t rank higher for me personally is the similar sounds in [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_f]Fern[/name_f] – though if that doesn’t bother you, then [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is such a great option!

    [name_f][/name_f]
  8. [name_f][/name_f]
  9. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] / [name_f]Bea[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: another pretty option! I do prefer the beautiful simplicity of “just” [name_f]Bea[/name_f] with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], I think she could definitely hold her own as a full name if you’re worried [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is too formal.

    [name_f][/name_f]
  10. [name_f][/name_f]
  11. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Susie[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: a lovely pick with such a bright & spring-y vibe! Not sure if it’s the right fit for y’all, if you’re not feeling that spark.

    [name_f][/name_f]
  12. [name_f][/name_f]
  13. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: she’s such a tricky one for me – I love her on paper, with her mixture of clunky vintage charm & edgy rock star vibe (maybe because [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Presley[/name_f] & [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_m]Green[/name_m] [name_m]Gables[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] are my main associations & they’re blending together?). She’s definitely got spunk! However, I don’t love the “priss” sound at the beginning, just because that welcomes the “prissy” nickname, and she definitely has a lot more name to her than [name_m]Warren[/name_m] & [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] do – [name_f]Cilla[/name_f] is adorable though!

    [name_f][/name_f]
  14. [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

On your combos… my favorite of each are:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] OR [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Susie[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] OR [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bea[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

A few other suggestions
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Celia[/name_f] (love this one for y’all!)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Imogen[/name_f] “Immy / Ginny”
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Francine[/name_f] “Francie / Frankie”
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bree[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] “Lindy / Lou”
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Dinah[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Delia[/name_f] / [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Tess[/name_f] / [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Enid[/name_f]

Favorites from your list: [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]- love this, it strike the balance for me of being uncommon but familiar, it has a vintage vibe yet feels strong and holds up well to the clunky classics (positive) of [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f]- I really love [name_f]Fern[/name_f] as first name, I just don’t love the flow combos quite as much- I added some below. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] feels vintage but fresh and sweet, it’s definitely one of my top favorites of your names.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] is lovely and I think even if it becomes more common it’s always going to be classy and strong. It just doesn’t strike me as much as your others.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], I actually like it a little less than [name_f]Louise[/name_f] by itself but [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is just so sweet, clunky, and lovely. It doesn’t feel fussy to me at all, I think [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] is much fussier. It also is less common than [name_f]Louise[/name_f] which suits your style.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] feels “prissy” and fussy to me rather than clunky vintage or edgy. It just doesn’t do much for me compared to you other names.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is strong and feminine, classy and familiar but less common. It feels a little edgy to me to if that’s what you like.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Susie[/name_f] is sweet and cute but I do think it needs a full name to stand up with your other names.

[name_f][/name_f]

Definitely adding [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]!

I feel equally confused about [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]. :joy:[name_f][/name_f] For some reason I can’t bring myself to totally rule it out, but I don’t know that I see it being very usable in real life.

[name_f][/name_f]

I do like [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] to add more spark to [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]!

Thank you for all of the thoughtful feedback!

Thank you for the feedback!

I do love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and it feels a bit more set apart and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] on its own.

[name_f][/name_f]

We can’t use [name_f]Susan[/name_f] as a formal name for [name_f]Susie[/name_f] for a few reasons, but love the flow of [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]!

Okay, thank you for saying this about the American pronunciation of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]! Part of me wants to love it so much but any time I think about saying it out loud or try to picture using it on a real child it just does not feel right!

You’ve got my style down because a lot of your suggestions have been on my list at some point!

[name_f][/name_f]

France’s in particular is one we’ve agreed on. Going to run that one and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] and a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] by my husband again.

[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is actually one I love as a middle, [name_f][/name_f] it my husband says it sounds like a health condition or medication. :roll_eyes:Also love [name_f]Renee[/name_f] because it’s my mom’s middle name, but it’s also my husband’s aunts first name so we probably wouldn’t use it.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] actually used to be on my list! Then I thought it sounded too much like fleur de Lis? But I might have totally overthought that and am putting it back on the list!
