Overthinking is kicking in, 5 months after birth.

[name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is almost 5 months old, and recently I’ve been doubting her name. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]. She suited it when she was born and as a whole, I don’t really regret the name but I feel like maybe she doesn’t suit it? [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] always suited her name 100% and I never had doubts like this.

Has anyone else felt such a way after having a baby? I have PPD which I’m sure isn’t helping, but I can’t help but feel we should have named her something more feminine and pretty like her, such as [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] or even [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. At the moment, she looks more like a [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] to me than an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], but I’m also used to the name [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]. Arghhh!

I go back and forth. Yesterday I was fine and she suited her name fine but today I’m sad she doesn’t seem to suit it and I mourn the names we could’ve chosen for her that I feel suit her better.

I wasn’t sure where to post this but thought girls’ names was the best bet. Does she look like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]? (I’ll remove pictures later today or tomorrow, but hearing someone confirm that she actually DOES look like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] may calm me.

I promise you I’m not just saying this to appease you… she absolutely suits [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]! What a sweet, beautiful, elfin little girl. She looks like a gorgeous little sprite, so the name feels absolutely perfect to me.

Also, I just think [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is an all-round great choice. It’s strong but also delicate and ethereal, incredibly distinctive but not difficult to spell or pronounce, and it sits beautifully beside big sister’s name too.

Your other ideas are also very pretty, but they don’t suit her any more than [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], [name_f]IMO[/name_f], and feel less distinctive. I suspect you’re fixating on this more than you might otherwise, if it weren’t for the PPD. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re struggling with it, and hope you feel better very soon.

But I can assure you that, from an unbiased outsider’s perspective, you made an awesome choice!

She looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] to me. She’s beautiful and looks like such a joy.

I had similar feelings about the same things with both children. I also suffered with some PPD and I think it definitely played a part. Kids definitely grow into their names, and really I think all babies suit almost every name and they eventually ‘become’ theirs.

I definitely doubted my daughters name for a good portion of her first year but I had a sort of eureka moment just after her first birthday when I realised how much she really does suit it and since then I’ve never had doubts. Hopefully it’s a similar thing for you! I know how stressful and confusing it can be to doubt it.

She certainly looks like [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]! I love that name!

She certainly looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]!! [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is a distinctive, ethereal name, and I think it suits your daughter perfectly

Thank you so much for the replies! It has helped hearing from others that she suits the name.

She is a sweet little one. So calm and serene from day one, unlike her sister who has always been a little spitfire. Their energies are so different. Part of why I am/was doubting it is that I felt the name was too harsh, in a way, for her and something more lighter would be better. I’m definitely overthinking it, just like everything at the moment.

Stephi, I am glad to hear I am not alone in feeling this way! My husband thinks I’m crazy. Hopefully as I start to feel better mentally, the feelings will go away. Confusion is the perfect word because I KNOW the name is perfect for her, and I KNOW I don’t regret it, but I am still feeling this way and it’s unsettling.

Looks like [name_f]Deenie[/name_f] to me.

Definitely looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], I think you are probably just very stressed out and overthinking it

Awe, she’s beautiful. And she looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] to me!

She’s gorgeous and very sweet looking, and I think [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is perfect for her. [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is actually a “light” sounding name to me because I think of a nature sprite.

I would say that [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] suits her, both from her pix & from how you’re describing her. I like the word “elfin”…it seems very appropriate.

Also, I was diagnosed w/moderate-severe clinical depression about a year & a half after my daughter’s birth…I’m glad you’ve already been diagnosed & I hope that whatever treatment that has been recommended for you kicks in soon. You’re definitely not alone!

Omg she is such a cute baby! And she definitely suits [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], it’s so beautiful. Also, you might find that as time goes on you feel [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] suits her more because of the growing association. My mum has told me that as much as she loved the other names she considered for me, she would never go back in time and change my name because my name has “become me” if that makes sense. So whether it be today or in ten years time, there will be a day when you can’t separate [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] from her name - it will be a part of her that suits her completely .

Oh dear [name_m]Lord[/name_m], I wasn’t having baby fever today but now I totally am. She’s so cute! I definitely think she looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous choice!

She looks like an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], for sure. Like, I didn’t know what an [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]-baby would look like before seeing her, but it really works. Thinking of the movie [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], where the titular character is a mythological selkie, I think it suits your girl well. She has those huge blue eyes and pale hair and skin, like the blue ocean and frothy white caps, just like the fluid, oceanic sound of her name. But it also has a perkiness to it that suits her big smile. I think it’s a phenomenal choice!

You all are too sweet. She is definitely a cutie but I’m biased of course.

And thank you all for calming my fears. See, so far today she suits it in my eyes. My mind is so weird! It’s calmed me a lot to know you all think she suits it, and that it’s fairly normal to have these feelings.

She’s such a cutie! [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] suits here just fine. You’ve chosen a great name.

Oh wow, she is GORGEOUS!!! [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is a perfect name for her, it’s just as pretty as she is and definitely suits her. In the end, it shouldn’t matter what she is named, it should matter that you love her and are pleased with her. And as she grows up, I’m sure she will love her given name just like you do. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

OMG…she is adorable!
I think [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] works for her, but you know her personality and maybe that’s what’s throwing you off.
I’m not crazy about [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] (it’s pretty, but reminds me of areola)

I love [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and think [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] (from your list) sound lovely together…they are uber-feminine names.

You are definitely overthinking, and I hope you can get help for your PPD symptoms. [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is a lovely name and it totally suits her! Congratulations.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] glad I got to see those photos: she is a beautiful little sprite! Congratulations!

I really like her name: it’s classy, ultra feminine but unusual, and I love the idea of such a pretty girl having such a sophisticated and confident name. To me, [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], for eg, seems overly sweet and cutesy for such a fine-featured little human. [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is a name for childhood and for adulthood! It’s a great choice.
