Paden

When I think of naming my children, I always feel like their names should be more than “oh I like that!”. I want to be able to have some sort of a story behind them.

My favorite name for a boy is [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and I have struggled with a middle name for a while. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is painfully common but I find it endearing, spunky, and just overall a winner.
I really want the middle name to help set [name_m]Jack[/name_m] apart.

I recently had a conversation with my Dad about his influence in naming me and my brother and sister. To my surprise he said he wanted to name my brother [name_m]Paden[/name_m] after his favorite childhood cowboy, but my mom shot him down and named him [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] instead, which upset him.

When I heard it I was instantly intrigued. So I thought about [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] and it just sounds so good!
I know it’s so similar to the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_u]Jaden[/name_u], [name_m]Bradon[/name_m] craze happening right now, but this name has a personal connection.

What do you guys think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m]?

if [name_u]Payden[/name_u] = REALLY sounds like a [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Kayden[/name_u], [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], and even [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] knock off

if Pad-en = [name_m]Madden[/name_m] knock off

skip it

its from the movie Silverado correct? i’d prefer the trendy [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] for bold middle.

ps a middle wont help [name_m]Jack[/name_m] be set apart, he wont be called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] everyday.

try [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] or go uber trendy with the x’ed up [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] is nice, though yeah, if it sounds like the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] names, that sort of takes some of the “setting it apart” out of it. If it is from Silverado, I love the idea of [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]. There’s still that connection to the name your father loved, there’s a story to go with it, and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] sounds very cool. Regardless, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] would be a special name and I’m sure your son would love having a name that his grandpa loved so much.

I really dislike [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], or any alternate spelling, as well as [name_u]Silver[/name_u]. But thank you for the suggestion.

I do think it’s from Silverado and it’s pronounced how it is in the movie. Sort of like “paid in”.

I also wouldn’t consider it a “knockoff” since I didn’t just make it up to go along with the craze. I do agree that seems that way though because of how popular similar names are.

I love the connection the name has to your dad, but for me [name_m]Paden[/name_m] blends in with all of the -ayden names or seems like a variant spelling of [name_u]Peyton[/name_u].

At the end of the day, though, I imagine your dad would be very touched if you used it, and his opinion matters much more than those of a bunch of strangers on the internet.

It sounds like you really like this. I wouldn’t worry about its similarity to trendy names if it has such personal meaning. You can tell it meant a lot to your father for him to mention it after all this time. I think it would be a nice way to honor him.

Also, for what it’s worth, I wouldn’t consider anything like [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] if your intention is to honor your father. He didn’t want to name your brother [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], he wanted [name_m]Paden[/name_m]. It doesn’t really work to use something other than [name_m]Paden[/name_m], does it?

I didn’t touch upon this in my post, but I agree very much with this.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of it. It’s sounds like an invented take on the [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]/[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]/etc craze, but if it has personal significance to you, I’d encourage you to go for it. After all, what are middle names for? It’s much better than choosing a filler name just for rhythm’s sake. Overall, it’s an acceptable middle name, and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] (prn. pay-den, I assume) does sound rather dashing.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] is awesome!

I agree. When I see [name_m]Paden[/name_m], all I see is trendy name that blends in with the -aden craze and even gets [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], too.

If you love [name_m]Paden[/name_m] and it it has family significance, then [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m] is the name for you? It’s a middle name so let’s go wild!

Since its in the middle, I don’t mind it as much. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is great! [name_m]Paden[/name_m] as a first name would make me cringe.

Given its significance to your dad, I think you should use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m].

I like the sound of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m]. I even like the tie to your dad with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Paden[/name_m]. What I don’t like is the spelling. When I see [name_m]Paden[/name_m], I would assume it was taking a legitimate boys’ name ([name_u]Peyton[/name_u]) and using an “alternative” spelling to make it fit in with the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] trend. If the cowboy’s name was actually spelled [name_m]Paden[/name_m], that’s one thing. But I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] would be adorable, if you’d consider it.

Ditto to all of this.
