Paige needs to go -- Help me rename myself?

First of all I’m completely new here so, I do apologise if I have posted in the wrong forum… But due to an obsession with names and a passion for writing, here I am and I’d like to ask for some assistance.

I was born [name_f]Paige[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. And for as long as I can remember I have and all ways hated both names with a passion. They were dull, boring, flat and just didn’t suit me a single bit. [name_m]Add[/name_m] that on to an abusive childhood and that name has now been tarnished to the point where saying it aloud freaks me out.

Now, years later I have finally reached the point where I can change it, but my current problem is: What to? I have almost nothing to work with. For a year or two now I have been identifying as [name_f]Channie[/name_f], a nickname based on the Korean name I was given by a friend (Chanmi). It’s okay, and it worked for the time being, but it’s not right and it’s and a pain to work with.

Other than that there is basically nothing, my dad refused to call me anything else so there wasn’t anything list of other options to start at. My mum tried to bargain for [name_f]Ebbony[/name_f] as my middle name but that didn’t happen. I like [name_f]Ebbony[/name_f] but it doesn’t suit me as a first name. Other than that if I was a boy I would have been [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. The only variation of this that I like is [name_f]Alyx[/name_f]. But I am not 100% sold on that yet.

That is the entire list. I liked [name_f]Summer[/name_f] a lot as a child but my youngest sister is named [name_u]Winter[/name_u] so that’s a no go. I am the eldest of four, I don’t mind if the name doesn’t match but for reference their names are [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u].

I like names that are slightly quirky, but also soft spoken as I’m kinda shy. I also want my name to work as a medal, a sign of what I’ve come through. So meanings such as brave, fighter, particularly defender, [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] etc are great. Names I like at the moment include:

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Ebbony[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_m]Aubin[/name_m]
[name_f]Alyx[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
Aviary

I am also looking at a new last name.
Thank you all so much and sorry for the long post!!!
<3
– currently nameless

From your current list I would suggest:

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - I like this name better as a middle name, but that’s just my opinion. Is this the front runner?
[name_u]Alexi[/name_u] or [name_f]Alexia[/name_f] in place of [name_u]Alex[/name_u] or [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] (I think these are quirky but subdued)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] means “strength in battle”
I think I prefer [name_u]Auden[/name_u] or [name_u]Arden[/name_u] to [name_m]Aubin[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is lovely and [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is fantastic.
[name_u]Harbor[/name_u] is quirky, subdued, and could have special meaning - becoming your own harbor in the midst of abuse. Not sure if you wanted to go that route but I thought the sentiment was nice.
I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is becoming increasingly popular and you may regret that particular name choice in the future. [name_f]Colette[/name_f] could be another option?
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] I think is another name that would become too common in the near future, I think the name [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is awesome though!

Some other options:
Because you picked [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f] - love this name, it means “a star showing a sudden large increase in brightness and then slowly returning to its original state.” It also means new.

Because you picked [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]

Because you picked [name_m]Aubin[/name_m] - [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Auden[/name_u], [name_f]Afton[/name_f]

Because you picked [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]

Because you picked [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] - [name_u]Alexi[/name_u], [name_f]Alexia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], Alexianne

[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to nameberry and congrats on taking this step! I really like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] for you, seems to fit everything you are looking for and its a beautiful name.
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]- to flourish
[name_f]Britta[/name_f]- variation of [name_f]Brigitte[/name_f] a name that come from the Celtic goddess [name_f]Brighid[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]- a flower used for poison, also means immortal
[name_f]Renee[/name_f]- reborn
[name_f]Regina[/name_f]- regal, royal
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]- new, butterfly
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]- brave in battle
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]- famous in war
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]- truth
Viatrix- Voyager through life

I hope this helps and if you would like more suggestions I’ll try to think of more
I would also recommend looking at this lists on here, I’m sure they have lists for names with the meaning you are looking for.

My name is [name_f]Erin[/name_f] (well, [name_f]Eryn[/name_f]) and I wouldn’t call it dull, boring and flat, lol. :frowning:

Anyway! From your list, I like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] and [name_m]Aubin[/name_m] (however, spelled [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]… slightly different pronunciation though). I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is badass, and I have a really soft spot for [name_f]Mercy[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] these are of some help, I’m all out of fighter-style and reborn-style names!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] samosier24, thank you for your reply and your help!
I honestly don’t know which is the front runner but I am particularly fond of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

I don’t really like the sound of any of the variations/longer versions of [name_u]Alex[/name_u], just yeah hahaha. But I think it’ll probably only be a middle name anyways.

I hadn’t considered [name_u]Arden[/name_u]. … I actually quite like that, thank you for the suggestion. I also quite like Harbour.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is becoming popular I’ve noticed. But it’s such a sweet name haha I’ve always liked it. [name_f]Nova[/name_f] is also nice, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the meaning but, is there are longer name where perhaps [name_f]Nova[/name_f] is a part of it? All I can find is [name_f]Novalie[/name_f].

[name_f]Maeva[/name_f] is also nice, thank you very much for your contributions to my list!

I think the fact that you’ve always liked [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a good sign that it should be at the top of your list. You know that it’s a name that you’ve always liked so it isn’t a passing fancy. If [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is too popular for your liking: [name_f]Lotte[/name_f], [name_f]Carla[/name_f], [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] (although the risk of being pronounced like the state), and [name_f]Lina[/name_f] are options. Also, [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] might be an option for you; it means spring. Sorry for any repeats, I’m horrible at keeping track.

I don’t know if you want opinions for surnames, but here is behindthename’s surname you can look into http://surnames.behindthename.com/ They don’t have every name (of course), but there is good information on the names that they have.

I’ve heard of [name_f]Novalie[/name_f], [name_f]Novella[/name_f], and Novaline (the way I’ve heard it was pronounced nova-leen).

I’m an [name_u]Alix[/name_u] and love the name. I think [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] is full of spunk but fairly soft. I often get mistaken for [name_f]Alice[/name_f], which I feel is almost as whisper soft as they come.

I’m so happy that you feel safe enough to take this step.

I actually like the mn [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. Maybe a variant spelling would reconnect you with it? I’d suggest: Aeryn, or Ayrenne.

If you would like a completely clean slate, with a nod to resilience, strength, and perseverance, here are some ideas:

Aidith (rich battle)
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f] (truth)
[name_u]Marion[/name_u] (little rebel)
Richa, [name_f]Richelle[/name_f], Variations of [name_m]Richard[/name_m] (Powerful ruler)
[name_f]Ria[/name_f] (powerful ruler)
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] (victorious ruler)
[name_f]Toria[/name_f], [name_f]Tory[/name_f] (conqueror, victory)
Enyo (warlike : Greek)
[name_f]Hera[/name_f] (Greek), [name_f]Juno[/name_f] ([name_m]Roman[/name_m]/Latin) (vital force)
Keto (Greek) (sea monster, goddess of sharks)
Megaira (grudge), Alekto (relentless), and Tisiphone (murder-rebellion… pronounced tisiphonee), the three furies from Greek mythology

I love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]!!! It’s one of my favorite names!!! I also like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] off your list.

I love the suggestions of:

[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]/[name_f]Apolline[/name_f]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]

[name_f]Hera[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]

Sorry if these have already been suggested, but what about [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], [name_f]Twila[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], or [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]?

I like [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I would recommend putting [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] in the middle spot because I doubt people will spell it correctly and if you are shy, it may be difficult for you to correct them. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Alyx[/name_f] is nice

That said, you should go by [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]/[name_f]Alyx[/name_f] for a few months at least before changing your name legally to make sure that your chosen name is really what you want for the rest of your life. A reason why a lot of people who hate their names do not change them is because they have nothing to change to. As for a new surname, perhaps you could take the name of a city/country/suburb you live(d) in or have an association with or perhaps you could take the name of a relative whom you like.

Good luck

Good luck on your journey - I’m hoping to do this as well once I find a name for myself.

First things first, make sure it’s a name that will age well. Make sure you don’t mind hearing it over and over again. Make sure you REALLY love it, and won’t change your mind about it a few years later. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] introducing yourself with that name. Go to starbucks and say that’s your name, get it written on your cup, and see how you like it. You sound young, and it’s best to change it then. And out of curiosity, will you ever use [name_f]Paige[/name_f] again after the change?

I feel like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is good for you. I don’t know why, but it sort of popped out at me for you. Beautiful name.
