Panfino

Has anyone heard of this name before? I’ve checked various places online, but haven’t found much of anything useful on it. I’m doing my family tree and was given the names of my great-grandpa’s siblings and this was the name of one of his brothers. They called him Panby, which I think is adorable. That side of the family came from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and Belgium, but I’m not finding a background on the name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious.

Found a link to a site with it listed as a surname being originated from [name_f]Italy[/name_f]: Panfino family heraldry genealogy Coat of arms Panfino

Could have been taken from the surname?

It’s in Italian (can’t figure how to translate), but from what I can tell: Surname found in Bergamo, [name_f]Italy[/name_f] - but not entirely sure of its complete origin. Traces of the name are found in texts dating back to 13th century. And then it talks about some noble person with the name I believe…
My Italian is solely based on movies and videogames, so its rudimentary at a stretch.

I’m sure you also came across the Italian/Spanish ‘Panfilo’ when you were searching, could also stem from that.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find more on it, I love researching my family names & I’ve also hit a dead end with some!

Oh, also came across a couple of old transcipts of [name_m]Miguel[/name_m] de Cervantes’ [name_m]Don[/name_m] quixote that mentions “Sheepheard Panfino” in one line… It’s and old version & I’m not particularly familiar with it but it’s an interesting mention.

Katyi: Thank you! Someone, I didn’t come across what you shared  but it makes sense that it could’ve been someone’s surname. Thanks so much!!! And yeah, I hope to find more on it

It sounds like it means good bread? Nice sound otherwise.
